[Music] Austin Texas home to technological and cultural advances but for everything going on in this city The Hub is bathed in burnt orange and it is DKR in the Texas Longhorns we have a ranked versus unranked battle coming up here and you know how chaos can ensue if they start smelling an upset as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the Colorado State ramp taking on the third ranked team in the land the Texas Longhorn for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started the Longhorns will get us underway with the opening [Applause] kickoff on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Rams offense will get the first possession of the game and here it comes the guy who pulls all the strings in this attack I think what makes him so unique he has such a good understanding of this offense always seems to know what the answer is to the testt always in control the receivers know they're going to get the football everybody believes in this dude didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 in the Rams will hustle to the line from the shotgun the hand off to the back and me not look like a huge run but they'll take it as it gets him up to the 24 I think you run that play so you stay out of third and long third and long is not where an offense ever wants to thrive third and medium hey I'm good with that so you run that play to make sure you're set up for a good third down this crowd trying to make life miserable for this offense wants to throw on third throws to the wide out oh they really could have use that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down third and short like that on your own side of the field you're just looking for a quick hitter you're trying to get the ball out of your hand quickly but the timing completely off there for the offense and the ball falls in the Rams will punt this one away the punter going to get his first work of the afternoon makes a move oh what a move very little will make a crowd hold its breath like a p return and he brought them to their feet on [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that so the Texas Longhorns offense taking the field first chance we have to see them today as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this down to the 18 yd line it's first and 10 wide receiver now comes in motion they're going to ride this running back fights through the pile and picks up a couple down to the 16 I think a big part of this isn't necessarily scoring a touchdown on that plate but you're just trying to get your offensive line in the rhythm of the game let those Big Fellas get lathered up after picking up a couple it's second and eight quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver he is going nowhere stop at the line of scrimmage I like offenses being creative I'm not sure if that was the best place to call that play I think this offense needs to think about just doing things a little bit more by the book they've got a lot of good Playmakers you don't have to reinvent the wheel this early in the game they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one fires to the end zone and it's caught touchdown Lorn Smokey the cannon not the only one using explosives around here and it has electrified this Longhorn Crow I mean coming out on point coming out dissecting the defense scoring early in front of this crowd you know good and well all these fans love their school Texas has got so much pride this gets them going early lining up to tack one more onto that lead and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish it up with a 15yd scoring T about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Colorado State takes over the ram offense returns to the field dropping back it's Fowler niosi makes the grab over the middle out to the 35 yd line and a little extra breathing room with that 15yd pickup it must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position that can work the middle of the field form he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this game and the Rams moving quickly to the line going up top on first down fires to the wide out catch in the middle it's Horton they'll get him at the 45 but he got 10 on that one that wide receiver the outside's dangerous when you're playing Zone coverage it's really hard because you're not chasing him you can't really get hands on him you got to make sure you send more guys his Direction maybe slide those linebackers toward that wide receiver so you got a little more help on the outside he wants to throw they're trying to get get to it and the quarterback bought a little time but actually bought a lot of time with not enough time the defense gets to it the pocket broke down and the quarterback had to take the sack really impressed by this pass rusher it's just guys winning their individual battles one-on-one up front they're able to get to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] quarter first down sack pushes it back now it's second down hand off from the shotgun and he is stopped immediately by the big defensive lineman great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go better find the earplugged here comes the noise backing this defense on third down back to throw it's fower niosi he's going to let one fly down the middle and he was on his way and they get him down at the 30er at the 30 yd and first for the off guys it is Texas who holds the lead guys let's have a look at the stats as we played one period back at it to open in the quarter with this first down play the run to the right at the 20 he's got space he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down what great explosiveness by this running back to break through and almost get to the house Jesse but just comes up short well I'll tell you he had a lot of help downfield as well receivers getting blocks making life easier on the back there and all of a sudden now this offense knocking on the door deep down in their opponent's territory keeping it on the ground on first and goal and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that and just a great job by the defense being Stout right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first the Rams racing to the line in the hurry [Applause] up the run up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone draged down at the six after a pick up of two unsuccessful second down and now I'm immediately thinking I got a little bit more than I want so one of my pass plays what am I going to get into here offensively to try to have success on third down so loud is rattling your fillings on Third and goal looking for a man it's Fowler nikosi and he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity but it's incomplete yeah and third short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board they'll play safe and send out the field goal unit Neil boot one from the right hash he ought to be able to navigate that angle from this distance tried to give it enough Body English but he missed it after that Miss still a seven-point game guys that's one the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making in [Music] the and here comes the Texas offense back on the field David they' love to do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they executed and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well and I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their heels picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down off the boot looking for his man caught over the middle it's hell they'll move the chains after he gets it to the 43 yd line and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today now on first down from the 43 yd line used the play fake now to throw fires to the right a beautifully plac ball to the outside in the tow drag for the big pickup really good job hauling that pass in you know I know Texas is a place a lot of people think about great DBS and they've had a lot of really good running backs too I think the receiver position is one though that they want to build a legacy around this guy right here he's really stepping up in this game today and he's a guy that longor fans they need to keep their eyes on for years to come pressure coming takes a hit as he fires finds a crease at the 20 and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and the Longhorns have it in scoring position on first and goal looking to to throw it's your makes the rim and to the end zone touchdown Texas and this offense right now they are doing some damage through the air that's now their second passing touchdown they thought coming into this game they were going to have some matchups on the perimeter of the field that they could take advantage of and they've done that so far here today [Music] getting set for the point after is on for the extra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 a very efficient five play scoring drive and they finish things off with an 8yd toss for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 we will see what this Colorado State offense can get done this time running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the footb on this drive you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into halftime looking to go up top on first down how about that catch diving Grabel along left sideline man I I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the and the Rams want to move quickly back to throw it's Fowler niosi not much of a chance there he just had to get rid out it to avoid the [Applause] sack here they come on second and 10 from the 47 after the incompletion he's looking to throw got it in the middle it's Warren just carving up this defense and getting it down to the 24 and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense has given them and create an the explosive play finally this offense starting to shake the cobwebs and get things moving it's first and 10 almost had the completion just missed it yeah and you use these running backs so much in the passing game now and you expect them to make those plays for you to make those big explosive plays out of the back field just got to make sure he concentrates and see that ball come in after the incompletion looking at second down he's looking to throw he's got his man he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half they missed a field goal on that last Drive but here on third down they can't afford for this possession to come up empty they'll try to get the first through the air can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard noosed pass defense and now it's Fourth Down got to give the defense credit on that play taking everything away forcing the incompletion now it's decision time fourth and short in your in field goal range what do you do here now on fourth down they'll settle for a field goal try it's good is that makes the score Texas 14 Colorado State [Applause] so they put the field goal on the board and about to kick it away and hoping that'll be the final points of this first half here he comes from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 here comes the Texas offense back to pass it's yers finds a spot in the middle the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half W had a nice job working the middle of the field I think it's so important to keep defenses honest and you can't just Dink and dunk outside you got to work the middle great job finding this wide receiver over the middle of the field on second down looking to throw got it in the middle it's hell the offense waste no time getting the timeout call these routes have some reads and adaptability built in stand and the big fella found that cushion and made the play man it's so awesome how much offenses have evolved they know exactly what they're getting where to sit down quarterback tight end on the same page gets the first down the offense quickly calls timeout to stop the clock and that's kind of a lot of today's running game right spit the ball out quick get it to your Playmakers in space get positive yards it's instead of running the ball a couple yards up the middle now you just spit it out wide and a lot of times if you break a few tackles it could be even [Applause] bigger that one falls out of bounds incomplete that's an example of the offensive coordinator trying to be aggressive and trying to take a shot now the offense isn't able to click on that play but moving ahead in the second half it's important they continue to dial up these big plays you want to stay aggressive and you want to keep testing the second round they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here and he needed a little bit wider field as that one falls out of [Applause] bounds the long horns will line up to PL it away on to kick it [Applause] away fair catch called for and made that the offense has had enough they'll take a knee and wrap up this first half that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin and our halftime update fellas you've been calling a First Rate game so far from Austin today and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most with that said let's send it back to the guys at DKR the Rams will kick it off to start the second half the returner is going to try to see what he can get he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so now the Longhorns take over and they'll send out the offense they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game is isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in the second half as well so you have to know where your answers are the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D now on the counter still running at the 40 running toward the tap finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down every time he touches the ball you can feel the excitement from this home crowd cuz Palmer He Can Go the Distance with that game breaking speed you're right David he's a special talent I'll tell you these fans they come here to see this guy play cuz he has gamebreaking speed stuff you can't coach you saw it on that play he move the tight end all over and this veteran quarterback just overshot his man that time and there's so much for a quarterback to think about stick it out in the belly do I pull it now when I pull it oh I got to get my feet set make an accurate throw to the right guy so a lot of things going on and I think that you saw that led to a little bit of inaccuracy couldn't make the play last time now it's second and 10 from the 30 after the incompletion back to the passing game oh he's going to try to get it all here and he'll take it in they couldn't get him on the ground touchdown Lorn and this receiver is on fire he's got all the skills that you look for in a big time Target that's already his second touchdown of the game [Music] they'll try to add another to their lead exra [Applause] point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish it up with the final 30 yds coming courtesy of that touchdown pass just about set to kick it away from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 looking downfield it's Fowler nikosi looking for a deep man and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge huge gain if he could have squeezed it well at this juncture in the game with how the scoreboard looks no question this offense is going to have to throw to get back in the game and it's going to be tricky now because the defense is expecting it you're going to throw into a lot of big Zone coverages with everybody's eyes on the quarterback not going to be easy snags it over the middle all the way out to the 37 yd line it's a gain of 15 they pick up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me I'm getting this first down and the Rams want to crank the tempo they'll throw it on first down he's got his man and they get to him and knock him down to prevent a bigger game he saw man coverage and the idea just get it to my receiver as quickly as I can and let him work David see man and and see the cushion and see the guy backed up a little bit now I know I can get it to him right now and get a positive [Music] [Applause] game looking to throw on second down got the back over the middle and the completion gives him a fresh set of downs and keeps this drive moving I just love quarterbacks that aren't greedy and that aren't always trying to throw the Home Run ball right second down you're in your own end of the field the guy you want to throw to is not open just find the back he'll go do something positive with it this guy is a weapon and you got to find him in the passing B coming out on first down with the play fake he's going to let one fly down the middle and it's knocked away downfield the DB getting a hand in there that's a great job by the DB playing the ball in the air you see it all the time DBS kind of get turned around the wide receiver goes up and makes a catch no serve DB great position knocks the ball down for an incompletion second down after that [Applause] incompletion he'll try to pop the draw and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there listen defense is about energy it's about passion it's about physicality they need a little bit more of that get the guy in the ground you can't let guys break tackles what could have been set up on a long yard situation now it becomes an easier situation because you couldn't get him on the ground it'll be a run on Third and short and the defense is swarming to keep him from getting to the first down well the offense tries to pick up that first by running it on third down no can do and that's really been the theme all game long this defense has just been better at the point of attack shutting down this run game the Rams will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return coming he'll call for the fair Catch and here come the horns they've got it again on [Music] offense from the gun they'll try to impose their will they make the stop of this running game moves to change as they get the first down that has got to be demoralizing if you're on defense because they just ran the ball right up the middle down your throats and they gashed you with a first down they'll snap it from the 32 they're getting this guy lathered up just working and poking and prodding and finding his way up to the 36 it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality setting your offense up in a good spot after the productive first down play at second and six out of the gun they'll run it inside and he was able to get away from one tackle but plenty of help was on the way decent pick up on that play Third guys it is Texas who holds the lead they built a comfortable lead after 3/4 of play let's take a look at how we got here on Third and short the run and looking for the first down they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that play had zero shot they got to do a better job up front creating some running lengths the running back before he could go anywhere getting tackled nowhere to go the long horns line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away running it back it's Horton just a wall of Defenders everywhere he looked and he's guided out of bounds after a short return guys we'll have another peek at this Rams offense David the punter got some work last time they'd like to keep him on the sidelines in this drive yeah it's not something you want to say very often you don't want the pter there this offense needs to get back bed up and get a little bit more of a rhythm best way to do that identify where your best players are and just get them to football give these guys some touches to Kickstart this offense and the Rams headed quickly to the line he'll come out throwing on first down floats it out in space and this one will be stopped for No Gain they were trying to find the edge there by swinging it out to the right but there was no room to run yeah in order for that play to work they're going to have to get better blocking up front those receivers and tight ends they've got to do a better job getting a hat on hat and give that running back a chance to go somewhere with the ball dropping back it's Fowler niosi and the throw out to the sideline good for a few and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre-nap he's reading the coverage and he's getting a ni idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now on Third and long trying to convert through the air unloads to the wide out he's got it he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where the qub back was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks doesn't matter what the coverage is you saw it right there on that defense were always trying to get some tips you know break on the football get a tip get it up in the air nice job by the player breaking the football and force the incompletion offense gets set for second [Applause] down he wants to throw it again using the quick game they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down you just get the feeling this defense is going to make it hard on them right they've got the lead it's late and they're going to try to tackle everybody in bounds offense is going to have to really work for this and be smart you got to attack the sidelines you got to throw first downs you got to keep this thing moving vertically down the field wants to throw on third down makes a connection now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs and it's first and goal from the seven you got to give the old line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down the Rams come to the line in the hurry up two minutes now left in this one and time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one out first and goal and a touchdown here really gives him momentum to the air it's Fowler nikosi feeling some heat and the pressure was too much they get him at the 15 this quarterback has been under duress all game long he's one of the best in the country and he's used to having his way he's the one who's used to dictating to opposing defenses but that has not been the case in this game here we are late he's still under pressure taking a sack there he's back to throw on second down catch open down the middle that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the six the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious on Third and goal they'll throw it going for six can't make the grab as he was looking looking for his man right at the goal line you see an incompletion there I think a big reason why this team is in such a hole right now in the fourth quarter is they have just not been able to find the explosive plays throwing the ball and you got to wonder at this point is it too little too late a field goal really doesn't do much for you in this situation so they'll go for it on Fourth and goal he got it he will not pick up the first down the desperation play and that one might have sealed their fate B and it's a turn on they keep it on the ground clock is their friend that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there and the defense doing a great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first after picking up a couple it's second and eight using his legs it's blue not a whole lot of progress made there on the short r at the 6yd line third down coming up lining up to convert third down [Applause] final score Texas 21 colado [Music]
