[Music] what's going on jeromes uh so last night the Super Bowl was the second overtime Super Bowl in NFL history also the first under the new playoff overtime rules which basically allows both teams to possess the ball no matter what now new playoff overtime rules is from the NFL both teams will have the opportunity to possess the ball in overtime in the postseason I just said that if the score is tied after each has possessed the ball the next score wins so whether it's still 0 0 33 66 77 88 whatever next score wins at sudden death if the team kicking off to start the overtime period scores a safety blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah now what's interesting is is that the chiefs were involved in this rule change of course the Chiefs beating the the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs for the 2021 season uh in a spot where it was a fantastic game man but uh Josh Allen and Company did not touch the football uh and the Chiefs and Mahomes marched down and scored a touchdown overtime and that was it and that's the uh you that's the NFL regular season overtime rules where hey first touchdown wins but if it's tied after both teams have possession 0 033 uh then it becomes sudden death and it just so funny that that's the rule change that that the Chiefs benefited from uh but eventually you know what happened so Kyle Shan shanan took the ball first they kicked a field goal uh and then the uh and then Kan city came down and stuffed a right in their face for a touchdown now you know there there's a lot of talk about the analytics of take the ball first take the ball second and I think since this is literally since this is literally the first Super Bowl what been in like there's not a big track record to go off of I think that I think that you can make a case for both sides so if you take the ball first no you cannot end the game uh but if you march the length of the field score a touchdown that puts a lot of pressure on the second team now also if you take the ball first and then still ends up tied whether it's 0 03 3 66 77 88 what whatever and then when it gets a sudden death you get the first possession and also the way that the two defenses were playing if it's a stop and a stop and it's z0 uh and Kansas City punts and all of a sudden it's sudden death you could have some decent field position uh to go down and try and kick a field goal and then Jake Moody's uh Super Bowl MVP so I understand that logic I also understand the logic of taking the ball second so you know first team do does what they do right so if they punt great if they score a field goal you know what you need if they score a touchdown you also know what you need and by going second well first off if you get a stop you can get get good field position uh and then basically it's sudden death for you because they didn't score kick a field goal you win but also if they kick a field goal you know that you you need three but also you know that a touchdown wins the game if they score a touchdown and kick an extra point at seven you know that if you score you have the option to go for two and settle this thing on a two- yard play right so uh that's the advantage there but I I think that it's kind of tough so I I like having position and knowing what you need when you possess the football uh but also I I feel like setting the tone uh with the first drive as well as having the first possession when it goes to sudden death I mean that does have value too but I don't know much smarter people than I have very definitive opinions on it so I don't know but either way C loses I mean it's got to be rough for shanam man and also all three of his Super Bowl losses when he was OC of the Falcons and two of the ners were just because they got away from running the ball it's crazy man it's crazy but what's also crazy is all so the overtime rules like we said these were implemented over the last two years and the the fact that the San Francisco 49ers players admitted uh in their postgame pressers that they did not know the overtime rules which is insane that's from ESPN uh Eric Armstead I I didn't even know about the new playoff overtime rulle so it was a surprise to me it's been 2 years and I you know the logic of well they're players and they just play the the play that's called and then they don't worry about it blah blah blah it it just blows my mind because coaches always preach hey situational football high football IQ be aware of this be aware of that they they plan for every single situation scenario and contingency for for I mean it doesn't even take that long like like so you didn't over the last two years you never took a minute a couple minutes in a in a practice or in a meeting and discuss overtime rules and the logic of hey or or your team captains you know calling uh you know heads and tails out there for overtime coin toss in the event that that happens like they should know the logic behind hey we're get if we win the toss we're taking the ball or hey if we win the toss we're uh we're uh kicking right so they need to know that logic it's it's absolutely insane and it 100% is on Kyle Shanahan where how do you how does your team not know this also you the fact that all so you know Niners uh players saying that they didn't know and it it was not just armson it was several players and also it hearkens back to Donovan McNab with the Andy re tie and you know McNab back in the day not knowing that a game could end in a tie it's kind of hilarious man but I mean it was several 49ers players like like how used check I mean who went to freaking hav it right so I assumed you just want the ball because you score a touchdown and win which is just insane it's just as again this is on Kyle Shanahan and the coaching staff also if you're a position coach and like like your players on the sideline like when you get the when you uh win the coin toss and get the ball first and players are like all right all right let's get a touchdown and let's win like as a position coach who should know the rules like you're you're not like actually act or what the hell is Brock pie and Kyle Shanahan talking about like did did Brock py think that hey if we March down and score a touchdown we win I mean I feel like that's something that should have come up also I mean Kyle eek is in those offensive huddles man like how how does so no one in the Huddle is saying like hey let's go down and score and get a touchdown and set the tone for overtime as opposed to let's get a touchdown and win no discusses that on the ju on the other side so drw tranquil uh great great Chiefs linebacker uh he said this we had an overtime rules presentation and strategy meeting every week of the playoffs and twice in our Super Bowl prep so that's the difference between Andy Reid and Kyle Shan's presentation like how does the bulk of your team not know the rules for overtime and hell maybe Andy Reid does have Don McNab to thank for this because maybe maybe that's scared Andy Reen's like hey uh you we need to go through every single week and twice in Super Bowl week to make sure that everyone knows overtime rules and again these have been the rules for two years two freaking years they've been the playoffs of both years I I don't understand it man I absolutely do not understand it so I mean yeah Kyle Shanahan is catching a lot of heat for you know blowing another double digit uh double digit point lead in a Super Bowl getting away from the game plan not understanding situational football and the fact that so many of his players a and key players key players were saying that they didn't know the overtime rules that's just coaching malpractice that's ridiculous and that's no now now I I wish so use Che saying that you Che saying that he he he didn't know the rules like I would have loved to seen the celebrations if San Francisco was able to score a touchdown on the opening drive and then seeing the the the Niners players celebrate like they just won the Super Bowl and then wondering why the confetti confetti isn't coming down and respect so M Harbin also said that he didn't understand he caught the game winning touchdown but also I feel like that's on him like if you're prepping if you prep for overtime twice and also had meetings and rules presentations every single week of the playoffs Miko that's on you bro I don't know man I don't know but your thoughts are thoughts the 49ers didn't know overtime rules let let us know in the comments section below subscribe for daily Vikings takes once support the
