Also known as the Green River killer has crimes that can be traced back to at least 1982. The man serving 49 life sentences for murders he committed made the move on Monday from a prison cell to a jail cell. The fact that he's in King County alone, King County jail, that's pretty significant. Court records are sealed and investigators will only say since his arrest in 2001, the sheriff's office continues to actively investigate potentially related cases. We just don't know and boy, everybody wants to know myself included King five law enforcement analyst and former sheriff, John Urquhart says the case has been part of his more than 30 year career with King County Ridgeway or at least the Green River Killer was all he's there. Either we were looking for him or we were finding victims or eventually in 2001, we caught him at the time. The death penalty was taken off the table because Ridgeway agreed to help investigators several years after he was incarcerated. We would send detectives down there once or twice a year, sometimes on our own just to talk to him and maybe we had a little bit of information. Gary. Do you remember anything about this? Uh But other times he would reach out to us and say, hey, you know, I remember such and such come down and talk to me. It led to cases solved, but not all of them. He has said that he's, he's committed 71. I don't think he knows. I don't think that's a good number necessarily. We are convinced that in King County alone, he's good for 55 homicides. Gary's a monster. He deserves to be where he is at the very minimum, but there's still a lot of families out there and they need information. I hope we can bring as much closer to the victims as we possibly can. I'm told removing the death penalty was a difficult decision for the prosecutor at the time, but it was done because Ridgeway agreed to lead investigators to the graves of his victims. Ultimately giving more families answers. Steve and Natalie, if Ridgeway is to be convicted of more cases in the future, could he face the death penalty? Then it is possible the agreement to remove the death penalty only applies to the murders committed in King County. Steve live in Seattle, Natalie. Thank you.
