busy day planned ahead it's Mother's Day weekend obviously but I wanted to get this news out to you guys I'm excited about it but the first one I want to talk about is a BYU quarterback named Ryder Burton now did any of you guys out there watching did you see West Virginia getting a portal quarterback I did not I mean I did mention in the previous video that they might go grab a guy with one year of Eligibility remaining or something uh just to serve as a third string guy maybe with some experience I you know something like that just a guy who wanted to get his master's degree or something as a grad transfer something like that but what I didn't see coming was them going out and getting a guy like rder Burton who still has four years of Eligibility remaining now they did lose Sean Bo to the portal a few weeks ago he was the third scholarship quarterback so it's not a surprise necess necessarily that they wanted to add a third quarterback but here's the here's the odd thing odd part to me in all this West Virginia has what I think is a potential stud quarterback coming khil Wilkins who is going to be part of the 2024 signing class and I was assuming they would likely hand him the third string rle at some point or it would just go to uh Scotty Kean who is it would just go to Scotty Keane Who's the walkon who had been competing with sha Bo for that third string spot and but apparently either they don't think Mikey Keane is the guy or Scotty Keane I'm I'm sorry I keep calling him Mikey Keane for some reason anyway they either don't think Scotty Keane is the guy or and and you know obviously they probably feel like khil won't be ready to be that guy but why would you get a guy who has four years Village builing remaining along with KH Wilkins coming in to me that's a little strange because you're going to have two guys with four years of Eligibility so now listen I'm not here trying to start rumors or anything like that but it does make me question is there going to be an issue with khil Wilkins as far as his uh you know is he changing his mind is he not going to come to WVU you know is there something going on there you know I don't know we we did hear at one point he was planning to be an early in roll in enroll for spring practice that didn't happen for whatever reason I don't the exact reason I hate to speculate on it but more than likely it had something to do with classes transferring over or something like that I don't know but nonetheless he didn't early in rooll but he was still planning to come from everything I've heard still planning to come in the summer for fall camp and guys I've want I've done multiple I've talked about C Wilkins multiple times on this show the young man has an absolute Cannon for an arm he's an extremely accurate passer and he's mobile I think he has a chance to be an absolute stud quarterback that Nico can hand the ring RS to after he leaves so for them to go out and get Ryder Burton to me is extremely extremely unusual because now there's going to be four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster which is extremely extremely rare in today's game if KH Wilkins is still coming to WBU so again but let me know what you guys think I I'll get to some comments here shortly but uh right now I'm going to pull up I'm going to do a quick screen share here we're going to look at rder Burton's announcement on X says something about the heels committed WV football Blair and gulo at Blair and gulo I don't know who that is but nonetheless there you see rer Burton's commitment Post in the old golden blue holding a football very cool picture there and then here you'll see his announcement when he he didn't enter the portal April 30th so basically the last day he was able to enter he entered it says to BYU I first want to take the time and thank coach rodri and coach sataki for giving me the opportunity to compete at my dream school every moment at BYU will forever be cherished and I can't think enough all the coaches and support staff that helped me grow as a player more importantly as a man to my teammates I'm so grateful for the time we spent together and the bond that was created love every one of y'all and wish each one of you guys the best of luck with that being said I've de decided to enter my name into the transfer portal with four years of four years remaining his timing now I don't know a whole lot about Ryder Burton I jumped on this pretty quick so I hadn't had a chance to watch any film on him or anything like that he is out of Springville High School uh class of 2023 um I do see that but I'm going to read a little bit about him here it says this is over on on Sports Illustrated or Mountaineers now uh by scholar Callahan it says s Saturday morning West Virginia added to the quarterback room securing a commitment from BYU transfer Ryder Burton Burton was a consensus three star recruit in the 2023 class and held interest from Nevada San Jose State Southern Utah uccla Utah and Weber State in addition to BYU so three power five schools were recruiting him or and offered him Utah UCLA and BYU over the last two years of his high school career at Springville and Utah Burton completed 249 of 442 pass attempts which is 56% for 4,273 yards and 45 touchdowns so a massive season there at Springville High School Burton will become the third scholarship quarterback on West Virginia's roster joining Garrett green and Nico marel incoming freshman khil Wilkins will be the fourth so again I find this to be a little unusual for them to add a fourth scholarship quarterback hopefully it doesn't mean KH Wilkins isn't coming I would love to see these two young men compete for that backup roll next season once Garrett leaves and graduates but again uh the coaches know more than we do when what's of what's going on behind the scenes maybe there's a reason they needed to bring in uh B Ryder Burton and this also puts him over the scholarship limit by the way he was the 86 scholarship as far as I can tell so again another another little nugget of info there and then right as as I was really come on and do this show more breaking news and I got to give a shout out um anyway I don't want to say too much so anyway um but they got another commitment this one from a defensive back not not that surprising here right a defensive back we know West Virginia Coach Brown has stated multiple times he plans on adding to the to the defensive back room if they can find the right guys he said that multiple times they need more depth there so what do they do they go out and they get a defensive back and and a second transfer from Jacksonville State which is where offensive lineman Xavier Bosley came from this player's name is kakora Joseph taru again I'm going to do a screen share show you his announcement kakur Joseph and he uses a seven instead of a t taru let's work at coach Cod we we all know coach Cod is he's either an analyst or a grad GA on the staff not 100% sure but says kakor taru committed but uh I'm not going to show you any more posts I don't want to bore you with that but really cool picture there and by the way uh as I'm on taru now I did watch a couple highlights of this young man uh earlier today because I I had heard through the Great Vine that he was visiting West Virginia didn't know he was going to commit today but um and again couple quick highlights nothing nothing in depth but young man is long he's 6' one so that's good he feels you know we always heard uh GM Drew fabon say they want guys that are long and fast long and fast long and fast big and fast big and fast whatever this he fits that mold he's 61 I think he's listed around 195 he's an absolute stats stats sheet stuffer let me read you his bio here from the Jacksonville State website it says in 2023 his lone year at Jacksonville State he appeared in every game in his first season at Jacksonville State after transferring from Rochester Community and Technical College in Minnesota started at cornerback in eight games for the Gamecock including each of the last seven games so he played his way into a starting role that's what that tells me so he progressed throughout the year eighth on the team with 48 total tackles which is pretty good for a corner but fourth in Solo tackles with 42 leads Jacksonville State and tie for third in Conference USA with three interceptions while adding two tackles for a loss one sack and four pass breakups blocked a punt recovered it and scored in the Louisiana Tech game not's first interception against East Tennessee State while also recording picks against Middle Tennessee and South Carolina an SEC team had season High nine tackles at South Carolina prior to Jacksonville State he played two seasons at Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester Minnesota where he had 11 career inter ceptions and scored four defensive touchdowns in just two seasons at rctc he led the yellow jackets to the semi-finals of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference playoffs as a sophomore in 2022 named a first team All-American in 2022 when he led the nation in interceptions with eight while also recording 46 tackles one tackle for a loss three fumble recoveries and one pass breakup scored two defensive touchdowns on one on a fumble return and one on an interception return picked off three pass passes and not 22 tackles in eight games as a freshman in 2021 while also scoring twice once on an interception return and once on a fumble return so I mean that's a lot that's a mouthful but he's a stat stuffer he he 11 career interceptions and four touchdowns in just two seasons at the community college level had another three picks last year in Conference USA Jacksonville State's first season as an FBS program he went to Rapids High School in Rapids Minnesota where he was an allconference player he was born in Monrovia Liberia actually so he's he's another one of those foreign players that Neil Brown and his staff have been able to be successful with so two exciting transfers for the Mountaineers the quarterback one really intrigues me because like I said I didn't see it coming I didn't think they had a reason to go out and get a young quarterb back with four years of Eligibility left so again uh and John kristofic makes a great Point here that khil Wilkins will probably red shirt so they needed another guy who might be ready to step in should Nico or Garrett and Nico both go down with the injury and you know when you have a guy quarterbacks who like to run that's always a risk so maybe they needed a guy who was ready who they felt would be more ready to step in and even though Ryder Burton did you know didn't play necessarily or didn't play at BYU he red shirted he still got to practice day in day out with a power five level team and a power five defense so you know he should be more prepared than say an incoming freshman all right let's see he says is farmer still coming as far as we know yes have not heard any different I do want to say though adding both of these players puts West Virginia had 87 scholarships somebody's either either there are some freshmen who aren't coming well there are some guys not going to be that aren't going to be playing in the fall that we don't know about yet whether they're grad transfer whether they're going to be grad transfers whether guys who might retire from the game whatever there's something that's there's something that's going to keep these guys or keep them from you know they've got to go get they've got to somehow get down to 85 scholarships and I don't know how they're going to do it without losing some players I mean that's just face it so I don't I don't know what but as far I haven't heard any different Eli but a great question though I think there's been some speculation on it because I don't somebody I don't know I don't want to speculate but I think there has been some speculation on some Social Media stuff he has or has not posted uh Paul says he just uploaded the video on the quarterback so everybody I'm getting ready to hop off of here um check out this
