Alex de Minaur Press Conference | 2024 US Open Quarterfinal

Alex if you would your thoughts on the match yeah um I just want to say I'm very proud of myself of what I've achieved um all things considering um doing everything I could to to be in this position and today it wasn't meant to be and but yeah um I'm I'm proud of my efforts thank you uh one question each we'll start with the Aussies guys Alex did you aggravate the hip injury before or training yesterday something you seemed clearly hinded today um I think look Jack is is never easy to play in the best of times and the way he he can spread the court uh being a lefty and and really move you around the court it it takes takes it allall on the body um accumulation of matches takes it all as well uh but yeah it's just yeah he he he played well he he deserves the win he he moved me around the court and and and serve great and in the few chances that I had I I wasn't able to execute and yeah David hi Alex um just as an extension of that I understand that you don't want to take anything away from from Jack today but but I mean would you say you were some way short of 100% today um sure it's it's I wish I I was I felt better let's just put it that way um uh it's it's tough It's it's a big opportunity it's a big chance um I rather try and think about how what what I was doing six seven weeks ago and where I am now and and try to focus on that instead of dwelling on what just happened and you know me potentially you know having one of the bigger opportunities of my career and uh it just slipping away from my hands so I'm going to stick with the positives that I I'm proud of myself um based on that can we say was whatever it was linked and and where does it take you in terms of you know Davis Cup Etc coming up what you know where do we look at for that for the future I I really don't know um I was I was not expecting today if I'm honest um everything was trending in the right direction and now I I don't know that's that's the honest uh answer so um I guess I'll just have to wait and see how with a couple days see if it how it pulls up Chris Alex did it feel like a different Jack Draper than the one you faced the previous three times I think Jack has continuously improved um every time we've played every year he's he's gotten better he's he's has the right work ethic he he's a great guy great competitor and um yeah he's doing the right things um he's got weapons he's he knows how to how to use those weapons effectively and uh look he he's yet to to lose the set in this tournament so it's he's got to be doing something right just to clarify you said you weren't expecting today was today significantly worse for you in terms of how you felt to the rest of the tournament building up to this point uh yeah today wasn't ideal um um yeah as I said I was I was expecting to to feel better I was trending in the right direction and and today was was a little bit the opposite of that um but yeah it's it's fun I'll I I dealt with it after Wimbledon um I'll I'll deal with it after here and I'll be I'll be back in no time and hopefully sliding from side to side with with not a thought in my head all right we'll take two more Charlie and then Craig Charlie I just wondered um having what you said there about how tough Jack is to play you know what chance you'd give him in a semi against potentially Daniel or Yanik I think uh we've seen in this tournament that anything is possible um if if that wasn't the case then we probably would have had all the seated players uh in their respective rounds and then the tournament would be quite boring in that sense you know uh no upsets at all but we've seen that uh in these last couple weeks and yeah anything is possible uh you never know what happens out here so I'm sure he's got a good chance he's got big weapons that he can hurt anyone so so yeah why not Craig final question Alex um I fully appreciate you want down not talk about this aspect much but during the match were you in pain were you did it feel like your leg was blocking or or getting blocked and in that case considering what you've been through over the last eight weeks did it at all any time cross your mind about stopping no stopping didn't cross my mind at any stage it's it's not part of me part of my DNA I I don't like it if I'm honest um I'm always going to give my my best and look uh it must it it could have been naive of me but I genuinely thought that I was a chance do even even in that last game going in you know I thought that I was a chance that I was going to you know change the match around and and go out there and yeah and win it so uh every stage in that match I I gave myself a shot uh with my attitude with my mindset to to go out there and I had some chances as well that you know who knows if I would have taken them then maybe I I would still be on court right now so um retiring that's that's not part of me and um yeah uh I think over my career you'll very rarely uh witness that thank you everyone thank you Alex
