Inside Look: Grace Van Patten and Jackson White on Season 2 of 'Tell Me Lies'

[Music] Grace Jackson it's great to see you both again you too amazing times here we have tmy Li season two uh there's questions for both of you you know with season two uh it starts with uh you know your characters Stephen not speaking to each other after this breakup how did you both approach the portrayal and attention and the distance with your characters I mean it was so fun we we've been saying like we didn't we didn't have as much screen time together as last season but each scene was so pivotal and so loaded that that when we did get to act with each other it was just so exciting and intense and um just really fun to be able to explore that Dynamic that was super different from the first season Jackson yeah same thing it was um just uh such a great tension to keep us apart and and then when we came together it was it felt really powerful and fun to do and um I think it reads that way it's really cool with also with season one you know with the big Fallout and everything not it affects not just Lucy and Steven but like the whole dynamic of the group also like how do you see the like the Ripple effects of their relationship now with impacting everybody else around them gosh everyone's so everyone's so affected um we have we have so many plots going with with that I guess at the epicenter but it's it's really cool because this whole season goes into everyone's relationships and everyone's um it's become a true uh Ensemble with not a weak Link in the bunch it's really cool it's like it's a solid solid Ensemble yeah you kind of see the effects of like the the lies that Lucy and Steven told last year and within and them trying to redeem themselves this year and seeing that their lives have still affected everybody around them um consistently and like and and there's no there is no solution being provided it's them kind of trying to overcompensate without owning up to what they did which I think just convolutes things more how would you describe now like Lucy's Journey now like she's got pretty much an emotional Journey now in season 2 like what do you think was like the biggest challenge for you the season yeah it was definitely a journey for her um but I think she she was doing it all all subconsciously and still has the blinders on for Stephen whether she wants to or not I think it's kind of the whole tragic part about it I think Lucy does not she knows that she should not be with him but she cannot help herself and watching that kind of unfold through another relationship or with her friends um he's still completely clouding her mind with every action that she takes Jackson with um with Stephen also you know has a complex character and he often Walks Like between the lines I say you know like the charm manipulating and everything like uh what do you think season two for his like journey and aspects of his personality what do you what's your thoughts on that on on on who he is sort of or or what do he yeah um well I think I think his um his his through line is he's trying to decipher if he's a good person or if he's done bad things or if he's a bad person um and it's just a moral dilemma at the same time he's always going to try and get what he wants he's he's a survivor he's a a shark he's always swimming um I think he's just trying to uh uh he has a little voice in his head that's that's yelling at him maybe maybe a a hint of a conscience and he's um we're we're seeing how much of that he wants to listen to if he's gonna you know change his game up right last question for both of you you know for the returning viewer viers that come in to watch this season what are you hoping they get out of this season anxiety give them all pits in their stomachs um no hopefully I mean we say hopefully it's just a cautionary tale for people who have are are in a situation like that or have been or are supporting somebody through a situation like that and to also just kind of normalize that feeling and it's so unfortunately common and um I think it's easy to feel shame when you've been in a situation like that but to show that it is normal and you don't have to feel shame about it and it's it's it happens to the best of us it's no sign of weakness or or anything like that it's I think if you if you have a hole in your heart and someone comes along at the right time it's inevitable to get caught up in something so I me graceon Jackson I want to thank you for giving from Miss today on Preston good luck with season two and hopefully we keep this story rolling hell yeah so much thank you have a great day you too bye
