what's going on everyone it's your boy Ernest Dove I'm back making another video talking New York Mets obviously it's always going to mostly be about the minor leagues but I might as well a little kick off this segment want to talk about one of the hottest players SL toopics in the New York Mets entire organization this year at the top which is Mark Vientos he's kind of in the story of the year of sorts as the young guy who's like whoa you know how did this all happen uh listen you you've known my take for years if you've been following me if you've been kind enough to follow me even way back in 2019 it's when I started getting some of the intel on Mark Vientos who as far as teammates and everything else in the Dugout when he stepped up to the plate they thought electricity was about to happen so the bat was always there there was obviously always concerns about the defense I don't even know Jokes Aside it was one of those like call him a young Dorne back in the day for all you Major League movie fans I looks like a lot of work was being done a couple of years after that from 2021 2022 I started talking to some teammates and some people in the Mets organization who said that he was working on his footwork uh improving you know every year as time went on and another thing about Mark ventos as I've also said over the years he always took two or three weeks or more at every level basically hitting about a buck 50 to 200 every two three weeks at every new level Before He adjusted so obviously once he got past that a ball A+ double A tripa A once he went through the three weeks of hitting in the Mendoza Line he started hitting a b 330 for the rest of the seasons at every level it's kind of what he's been doing now obviously what I wasn't expecting was for him to be a 270 280 hitter in the major leagues which he is obviously right now KN unw I wasn't sure about the batting average in particular how consistent it would be but he was always going to hit he was always going to improve with the Reps at every level so I would like to have thought projection wise even in the majors once he got adjusted he was going to be able to hit I heard all the things about the he can't hit a fast ball well then he's been hitting some home runs off 99 98 97 is what it is he's G to be able to hit he's always had the opposite field power so again depending on how much the bat speed is or what he's seeing fastball wise he's naturally an opposite field hitter to begin with he can still hit it out to Center or to Right Center or to WR anyway so maybe there's going to be adjustments regardless uh one of the other big adjustments of course will always be the K rate how high is it g to go how low can it go with experience might be the thing you always watch with Mark Vientos what's the K rate over the next five years how's the defense over the five years uh I know a lot of people are saying well just move them over to First and kick pet Alonzo to the curb I I mean listen it is an option I'm not going to say I'm against it but again what can we get from him defensively he can make some plays how good is his range doesn't have great range he also happens to have to this year's possible MVP at shortstop next to him helping anyway at that side of the field so maybe these things can work themselves out even in the next couple of years anyway at third base obviously you have batty and Mauricio and if you want to look way down there's a guy like uh Jacob Rhymer as a prospect prospect but again obviously people will yell at me if I talk about that because guys that are two three years away you know why even bother trying to project that right now but again Mark Vientos maybe this is who he is uh even in what spring I was mentioning hey Mark vantos could be one of those guys what's your hot take 245 plus batting average 20 plus home runs 70 plus RB it's basically what he's doing right now I didn't realize it'd be about 30 points higher in the average but obviously I'll take it so for now or even for the future my take believe in Mark Vientos because again my opinion for about five or six years on Mark Vientos he's being probably who he is uh which is pretty exciting to see now now that I've gotten through the whole Major League thing let's get to my wheelhouse uh minor Leaguers I wanted to talk about this one guy now that I have to talk about right now because he's hitting about 500 plus uh during this six-game series he just finished in a St Lucy Mets uniform AJ yuan is 12 for his last 22 during this six game span that he just had and finished up today for the St lcy Mets in Lowa now AJ Ying one of those recent High School picks I believe from last year uh this year it's been a rough road the entire season he's been basically hovering around the 200 Mark hitting wise all year and then all of a sudden the last few weeks and especially obviously the six game series he's hitting bombs and now he's just hitting everything uh is this who we can expect from AJ Ying going forward hey I don't know about how high it's probably not going to hit 500 all the time but this is pretty exciting stuff for AJ Ying fans and there seem to be a lot of you out there uh so shout out to all the AJ Ying fans who knew him before uh probably maybe knew him even before he got drafted looks like he's off to a hot start and I see AJ Ying as more of a power bat uh the K rate has been way high this year so you're going to have to worry about K raate with him at least again we're talking about somebody who's still pretty much new to Minor League Baseball so do I want to overthink or underthink the K rate at this sample size hard to say but the good news is he hit another home run he's got five now in St lcy he hit like four quick home runs in the Florida complex League before they promoted him so even right then and there we're talking like nine home runs give or take here or there to hit that many home runs in South Florida it's actually pretty impressive uh based on the the amount of that bats he's had as well because not many people hit a lot of home runs down here regardless even if it is the complex League low a I know they're low levels but the parks are huge the weather's hot not a lot of wind blowing out uh pitchers are still learning so for him to be hitting out some of these Jacks the way doing it so early it's kind of exciting to see I don't know how it translates now at the higher levels again K rate K rate K rate I want to see though what he's gonna do maybe beyond the 12 or 22 but again AJ euwing is one of those guys uh the other guy like at the ajing is based on the same type of Youth would be Boston Barrow Boston Jeff mcneel Barrow you know I've been talking about him all year uh he's still I think he just turned 20 years old like about two days go so basically he's played out most of the entire Pro season this year at the fcl and actually all Loa so he's basically played all of lo as a 19-year-old which is very impressive especially in today's game when they got rid of some of the rookie ball leagues so for a 19yearold he's been one of the steadiest guys I've talked about the uh catcher slir baseman Ronald Hernandez as well but Jo Boston Jeff mcneel Barrow he's one of those consistent guys uh he's been hitting over 270 for the entire season when you break him down month to month he's basically hitting 270 260 280 I think he had a month hitting over 320 280 he's been a pretty consistent guy he's had that small frame so the reason why I've been calling him Jeff mcneel is because he's been a skinny guy he's one of those kids where I heard from the draft up until this recent season he put on over 25 pounds and yet he still looks kind of thin because of how tall he is so there's actually more room to grow for a young man who's already put on 20 plus of muscle he's got a very sweet Lefty swing uh as far as through his first 83 games uh 24 extra base hits 41 walks 66 K so for an 83 game span 41 walks 66 K I think overall the walk rate is okay the K rate is okay and again I like his swing I like the fact that he plays three positions they've had him at second base short stop and third base one of the things about Boston Barrow he's got a very strong arm so he's not a guy that would have to someday find himself at second base for positional reasons he has the arm for third uh he has the range and speed he can handle short obviously though pure glove wise we're gonna have to see where Mets swana put him maybe he can end up or will end up at a third base maybe out of necessity or team need he can find himself self at second not really sure if short Stop's going to be definitely full-time and I've also been wondering why or if or when he's going to find himself in the Outfield I would like to know if the Mets want to give him a shot maybe even next year in the Outfield as well because I would like to see that type of opportunity especially everything going on in the Mets farm system maybe another outfielder would help but obviously continue to keep your eye on Boston Barrow because he keeps hitting consistently at a very young age and I even think his walk rate could even go up a little bit he has the plate discipline for it uh also another guy getting into some of these minor Leaguers a guy I haven't even talked about all year but he's basically had one of the most dominant pitching seasons in the Mets farm system is a left-handed pitcher Gregory Lewis uh he's 21 years old left-handed he's basically mixed around between fcl low a and recently made his high a debut but here's the numbers to focus on Gregory Lewis 48 Innings pitched this year 29 hits in 48 Innings his erra is 1.31 here's obviously the same old issue with everyone 48 Innings 25 walks so the walk rate is a little too high K rate 48 Innings 52 strikeouts opponent batting average 175 so now you got a lefty with an opponent batting average of 175 he's not really giving up hits my understanding talking within the Mets organization it's all about deception we've had some guys like this before as well in the system I remember one of my favorites kesan ASU had a funky kind of delivery and he had deception so it sounds like Gregory Lewis also has a lot of deception where it sounds like at least at least a ball hitters are not doing well enough being able to pick it up out of his hand so how can that translate up the levels I mean hey can more experience guys figure it out I don't think it's going to be that simple so this guy is going to be someone to keep an eye on a 21 years old with these type of peripherals peripherals uh being able to be deceptive with his motion how it comes out it's going to be interesting to see what kind of future he has I I would love to see like a new Lefty like this you know up the levels we're always going to need lefties we're always going to need relievers I think this is g to be an exciting young man to watch as he develops another guy one of the most fun stories of the 2024 minor league Seasons gotta be Joshua corneli this guy it's like he's coming out of absolutely nowhere and yet he's been here forever uh Joshua was basically originally signed by the Mets in 2018 he's been here like six years uh there was a spurt of two years where he basically disappeared he didn't even pitch in 2020 2021 so before and after he's making his way way back he spent multiple years at the rookie levels when they existed he's been in aball multiple times this year he's now 23 years old he's mostly played in high a with a recent double a stint now he just got promoted but these are the numbers regardless of the age and all the years he's put in 46 in the third Innings only 29 hits uh with a 3.88 erra 16 walks 59 K 59 K in 46 Innings only 16 walks in 46 Innings I'll take it again another guy 174 opponent batting average his whip is actually 0.97 that's the type of stuff you like to see H I want to see what becomes of him what I kept trying to ask about any kind of Intel or information on Joshua corneli is is basically wild card that's the only thing they could really say uh so it sounds like it's going to be a very interesting kind of guy to see what even happens in the next two three years uh because the the jury could still be out but I would love to see a guy like this get a chance after all these years you've seen a few of these guys like even they're not comparable but like a guy like danil Nunes who you know I love seemed like he was around absolutely forever and here he is finally in the majors at like after 27 28 years old finally getting it going can a guy like this put in all this hard work six seven eight nine years into pro ball can he make some kind of debut in the the future I think it'd be a good story and he's definitely someone to follow because again if the staff feel he is a wild card that also can mean a lot of things but it also means he has a chance uh opportunity and health is one of those things I learned for years and timing those are the things that can get you to the majors so it'd be pretty exciting to see what he does uh the other guy I want to talk about at the end of the video here is Austin treser now you know I've been talking about him ever since he got drafted my understanding even post-draft talking to his pitching coach in college it's just he's a guy who's been learning even from from freshman to end of his college career he was still developing throughout college and it sounds like he's still a work in progress in pro ball which can mean a lot of things but it could also mean exciting things because one of the things about him was when he started college he was basically throwing low 90s by the end of college he was upper 90s and now it's a matter of learning to pitch learning the mechanics a starter he's got to maintain the 94 95 96 that's what he's been trying to work on and this season I believe he started a little slow might have been a little bit of a minor injury so basically to this point of the Season mostly pitching uh recently made his high a debut so this is a guy that's been pitching an a ball all year he's only pitched 39 and two-thirds Innings at least at the time of when I wrote this stuff down in case he gets thrown into a game 39 and 2/3 34 hits s 1 walks which the walks can be a little high of sort 17 for 39 but 54 strikeouts in 39 Innings that's a high K rate uh he's got a 231 opponent batting average but the reason why I'm excited about Austin trusser is because usually with guys like this I think of it in terms of high school pitchers with so much upside but I feel like he's that version of a high school guy but in college because he's still developing so I want to see what develops pitching lab again the mechanics if he could maintain the 95 Plus for four five six Innings that could be a solid starter role does he end up in the pen long man does he become a future joseb of sorts uh with how they use him maybe that could be a possibility but in these type of situations even in aball I love the idea that he can grow and I love his current K rate so also keep an eye on Austin treser because again there are peoples even from college into Pros who have all said very positive things about his potential so he's got to be something someone exciting to look at going forward and I guess hey that's it for me today I'm trying to keep it short and sweet of sorts I hope you guys please continue to watch the videos I hope they're helpful I hope it continues for you guys to learn more names learn more Mets minor Leaguers to hug along with me and hey be on the lookout for the next video thank you everybody
