[Music] good morning welcome to 49ers in five your daily update on everything happening with the team that you need to know I'm Rob stats Guerrera today is Tuesday July 30th 2024 here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers we'll get to a potential shakeup in the backfield in a minute but first some injury updates for you defensive end Drake Jackson will not be participating in training camp he's got a knee injury Kyle Shanahan didn't even have a timeline for his return that is obviously not good news for Drake wide receiver Jacob coing is likely to be out approximately 10 days with a hamstring injury Isaac Reno is also battling a hamstring injury unfortunately his is more serious he's going to be out at least a few weeks Spencer bford we know has a broken hand he still hasn't decided or hadn't when Kyle spoke to the media yesterday whether or not he was going to need surgery to fix it he was going to see one more specialist before making a decision Ricky peol did return to practice yesterday in pads but only individual drills he didn't participate in the team portion Kyle Shanahan did say as long as he responds well today he will be Fogo in practice now to the audio portion of the show Elijah Mitchell's hold on the backup running back spot may be slipping just a little bit listen to Kyle yesterday I'd say nothing against Elijah um there's been no fall off in Elijah at all but JP runs at a very high level um I mean I see both of those guys that if Christian's not in there and not going I we always expect no matter who we've had in the past that that number two number three sometimes our fourth guy comes in and um if their numbers called we expect them to run like a starting back just how many reps did they get at it how long did they last and things like that and um JP wasn't there right away but he got there pretty quick and he did a hell of a job for a like last year and we'll see how Camp plays out but um I love both of those guys and got some death behind him too that is obviously bad news for Elijah Mitchell but it looks like JP Mason might finally be finding his way out of the doghouse whatever issues the 49ers had with him maybe he's figured out what they are and maybe he's addressed them that is going to be one of the more interesting battles as training camp and the preseason moves along now one more for you before we go take a listen to the question and the answer by Aaron Banks said the other day that uh the mistake that Spencer made in the Super Bowl was very tough on on Spencer do you guys I mean do you do you talk to him about that and what kind of um sort of advice or relief can you can you give a guy after uh something like that happens um our subject um yeah I'm gonna pass on that one I thought that was fascinating first the question the way Banks admitted it was a sore subject and then chose not to answer right he could have said W you know everybody makes mistakes I made mistakes earlier he could have said hey we just cheered up or we're moving on we're on to 2024 now and instead he chose not to answer I thought that was very very telling maybe not everybody is fully recovered from that loss against Kansas City we always give you one thing to read one thing to watch and one thing you might have missed one thing to read on this Tuesday if you want an in-depth look at the best battles in training camp check out Matt Barrow's piece in the athletic he goes through the top six very interesting if you want to read it click the link in the description of this episode one thing to watch our own Steph Sanchez was back at practice yesterday she provided a full in-depth report of everything that she saw while she was there I say she empties The Notebook nobody's better at it than Steph Sanchez she'll be on the ground in practice again for us and we will again have a full training camp report that is a YouTube exclusive so if you want to go check that out I'll put the link in the description you have to go to YouTube that's not going to be a podcast that's why you got to subscribe to both one thing to watch Jaan Jennings and Renardo green Jawan was miked up in practice yesterday he had a really cool kind of Welcome to the NFL type moment with Renardo green didn't get contentious or anything like that but definitely worth seeing Joan Jennings is one of the best characters on this team and Renardo green looks like he's a little feisty he's got a little something to him so it was a great interaction again I will put the link in the description of this episode that's a wrap on today's 49ers in five please rate review and follow the gold standard podcast Network wherever you get your audio podcast like And subscribe to the YouTube channel click the Bell so you don't miss a live show where live every single weekday plus once the season gets underway and you don't want to miss a single episode enjoy your Tuesday everybody I'm Rob stats Guerrera we'll talk later today [Music]
