hey Affiliates Sarita from Urban seek with a quick reminder we're working with high school students across the city to listen to the challenges and concerns that our students have and help to make sure that they feel supported and prepared to be the next great generation of Voters [Music] speaking with first-time voters of Paul Robeson High School students at Paul Robeson High School have collaborated with Philadelphia's non-profit organization Urban seek to work on a school project entitled we the people as we gear for the 100th mayoral election here in the city of Philadelphia let's hear exactly what these first-time voters have to say my name is I represent [Music] all of us in high school hi my name is I represent Southwest Philadelphia High School hi my name is Danielle Edwards I represent West Philly and I go to Paul Robeson High School in this upcoming mayoral election what issues are important to you as a first-time voter first start off with schooling housing and get these people off the screen and funding are one are two of the most important issues police brutality um School infrastructure and climate change finish this sentence for me as a new registered voter I'm looking for the 100th mayor of Philadelphia to zero and follow what you're going to say are there any pressures that come with being a first-time voter [Music] first of all honestly if you actually ask any Instagram or become an 18 year old powerful what is a ways to vote they don't even know so that's a pressure within itself and people don't really use those rules so I think we need to be pressured let's get into the school project what is we the people about will be um project that's working with me to people and it's basically to lower the voter registration needs to 16 but also to give more resources to high schoolers so that they know like what boarding is and how it actually impacts them our school project is to lower the voting registering age to 16 so that by the time you turn 18 you don't have to then register because the registering process takes a while I mean if you're not like if you're born later in the year you won't be able to vote that year because of the registering process and it being so long and honestly at the age of 16 there's a lot going on and for the for us the precious situation at 16 to be seven like 16 17 18. they have an opportunity to research voting to actually understand how important it is should be a problem they should go to the right they should go to the registered Booth buy themselves and understand what's going on and to be able to answer any questions on my own I just want to see someone make Philadelphia look great be great and like you know be better shout out to all the students at Paul Robeson High School preparing to vote for the first time in its upcoming mayoral election follow revive radio Facebook Twitter and Instagram at revive underscore POC tune in [Music]
