Intro hello welcome to the latest edition of zero hangers trade Target series and today we're going over Hawthorne and who they could potentially look at at the end of the Home and Away season and into the offseason still a good finals chance um certainly and and whether they can make a deep finals run remains to be seen but they'll certainly be busy come to trade and free agency period and to look over some of the players that they could have in their sites is zero hanger reporter Aiden chill Ed how are you mate good thank you Mitch how about you I'm very very well very well hawks look like they're going to be pretty busy again you know brought in other what four players last year each looking um quite formidable and what they've been able to add to Sam Mitchell's Squad um for this season um look to make a bit of a splash maybe with a move from Ben m s r felll short and um are certainly now in a position where they're a lot more attractive to players weighing up their future um and it seems like free agents might be the way to go whether they want to hold on to their first round pick and and still go to the draft while adding talent and that's exactly what every Club wants to do but there could be you know maybe some um you know trades or or bold strategy moves comeing the end of the season that that we aren't aware yet um and they certainly could be having that that first round pick in their pocket um ready to make a late Splash but starting off the list is a player who um has been highly linked to uh the Hawks over the course of this year and um a former Hawks fan himself is deemed to be a very likely chance of departing St ker and joining San Mitchell side is Josh battle Josh Battle Yeah yeah I think he fits the the profile of what the Hawks are looking for um ke Defender does peel off pun play that intercept role would help sisly play maybe more of a looser defender or maybe on the third tour from an opposition side um but he's 25 26 years of age um yeah just would come in and Slot perfectly into s Mitchell's defensive lineup and I think he as I said mentioned he does play both both ends of the ground as well can go up forward as a bit of a swing which I think Sam Mitchell was starting to kind of get into his side a bit more a lot of the players that he's starting to develop are kind of multiple roles um we've seen will start as a half back line now going to the Midfield and we've seen fors go through the Midfield and Conor McDonald's going from half forward in a little bit of Midfield as well so Josh batt again fits that profile what Sam Mitchell wants um but also yeah it can definitely lock down a key defensive role alongside Sicily and and wed yeah I think a key Defender and a key forward is exactly what they would be after um and yeah you mentioned battle can play both um certainly would see him as as a key Defender they went after Todd Marshall last year was a ke Ford and and this year's Market there really aren't many on offer that are currently off contract from a key forward perspective one though who has some promise only signed a one-year deal for this season at the end of last year is Harrison Harrison Jones Jones at essendon certainly shown some nice glimpses um certainly a good third tour forward I think and if you you marry him up with Mitch Lewis Mario chol or maybe kid depending on where the pecking order sits I think kir probably needs a bit more development but they be wrapped with what they've seen from him but you go for someone like Harrison Jones allows a player of de's age to to have spend more time in development and I think you'd complement the likes of Lewis and CH nicely yeah yeah another one of those players that can play multiple roles we've seen in ESS he's played on the wing um I think he's pinched it half back line when needed and obviously played predominantly as a forward line under Brad Scott at at the bombers as well so yeah one of those plays I think again fits that age profile I think that's what Hon's really going for kind of these up andc coming play maybe 50 to 75 games under their belt at the moment between you know 23 and 25 years of age that kind of come in already understand the elite level and what needs to be done and what's required at the level um and then come in and just start you know making Making Waves at their new club or their second or third club like hopefully the Hawks would think another one similar to battle who's been tied to the Hawks and again is a free agent unrestricted so he won't they won't have to be forced into a trade if they have the best offer and if they are successful then all they have to to do is is kind of pay from their salary cap and not from their their draft pocket so that's um obviously a big plus for for any recruitment team is is these kind of players and and the second one that we do mention is Harry pman at jup us um a Harry Perryman very versatile player I think one of the best utility players on offer um given he can slot it half back roll through the Midfield or even play it half forward yeah well I think as well it seems like he wants to play a little bit Midfield now again I haven't spoken to him personally but there is a feeling that he can can go through the Midfield but in the terms of the Giants lineup they they too stuck they've lost players like maybe Toranto and hopper in previous years where they just didn't get enough Midfield time as probably genuine midfielders Harry penman's predominantly played through the halfback line for the Giants and as you said pinch It Forward when need be um but in the lineup with the Hawks again they they're still triling out but they obviously got day Nukem and warpool as probably their three primary midfielders but as we know in the modern game you probably need five or six on any on any given day to run through there and I think per as we have mentioned can play through multiple roles um but the prospect of playing more Midfield time that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be the starting midfielder under Sam Mitchell if he does make the move that is um I think that would be I guess kind of appealing to him going forward as well as you know maybe a bigger deal with a bit more money than the Giants probably offer yeah it's interesting to see how the Hawks rate their Midfield group obviously you mentioned that that top three line of players and then underneath that you've probably got Conor Nash who is yet to have a deal for next year Josh Ward Str to to get into the senior side cam McKenzie has been pretty positive I think since coming back um this season and they've got Henry hwe as well who's kind of um getting some extra minutes into the vfl level so very interesting to see I think they've got some great players with upside but yeah maybe they just want someone who can slot in and kind of bridge that Gap just a little bit longer um the fourth name on our list is probably not one who would get spoken about too much um probably has a bit of a clouded future at West Coast and Josh Rotham that's Defender Josh rotham I view him as a player who probably you know should be on an AFL list next year um very M well couldn't be away from West Coast despite how they're going um at the moment um you know I think a good intercepting option mediumsized Defender um you know he's not going to be a best 22 player for most clubs I wouldn't have thought but a good depth player and he's a free agent comes at no cost and certainly could be picked up as a delisted free agent moved to a rookie list um you know not every player on these list is going to be an a grade Talent um and I think someone like Josh rotham is is a nice little barain buy for a club like Hawthorne yeah I think Hawthorne never as well especially in past years of of kind of finding these discarded players and especially in the back half I remember maybe James fley from the D and Josh Gibson from the kangaroos again this was over a decade ago but kind of finding a little niche role under their current coach and giv this one Sam Mitchell where they can just slot in now rotham probably is playing more from the not for the Eagles side but if they do do choose to clean house Under New Management and a new coach which could be a potential I guess thing that they do is go down the path that they do go down that might mean bram's time at the Eagles might be up and therefore as you said I do think he's probably an AFL listed player especially for next year as well and Hawthorne could be a bargain by you know probably don't have to give much up or away just to get him across and again help bolster that defensive line that has worked at times during the year but also do need a little bit of help there as well uh last area on our list was Logan McDonald going to be Logan McDonald I think when we're kind of constructing our plans for for the Hawks that he was easily the the headline the perfect fit for them we've mentioned their need for a key for obviously resigned for further four years to Sydney takes him to free agency and while hon might remain interested um in four years time there certainly is a window that they can't be um putting all of the eggs in one basket on and and you know given his wa kit as well um they would be certainly an outsider in any case but a key forward um and like we mentioned there's not a lot on offer this year um whether they move for a 2025 contracted one um as we've seen you know almost half the trade deals that happen these days with contracted players um the lore of going to a club like Hawthorne and and the you know draft picks that they can potentially give up would certainly be attractive for some clubs and some players um and I think you look at the 2025 crop when you've got Oscar Allen and and Jake Warman both um you know signed for one more year um you know Waterman's been one of the breakout players of this season and and Oscar Allen um struggled with injury but um you know certainly has a high value and high upside um a captain of the club would be very hard to Pride out of the Eagles but just given where things are at you know I don't think West Coast want to hit the reset button that big and lose these two players but the Hawks if they want to be aggressive they're two names they can look at others do they look at Tom Lynch despite his age and injury history um and then you know there's probably a few other names out there as well but um yeah some certainly an area that hawthor need to consider adding to yeah clearly they just need someone else to to head up that forward line Mario has been a great acquisition but is he going to be maybe the next Premiership key for for for the Hawks potentially uh Mitch Lewis's body keeps letting him down unfortunately with another ACL reconstruction upcoming Kel Shir as mentioned on the top of the show um sh Great Signs so far but he's so raw and so young so he still need a few years to really probably hit his straps so yeah clearly someone of that of that elk where you know like Jake wman as you said maybe again kind of that age bracket of 23 to 25 simil Oscar Allen I know Raley Phil Thorp is a South Australian but he comes out of contract the end of next year um but someone of that nature where again they can come in and almost play a role immediately for Sam Mitchell and get the Hawks back up the ladder which is clearly their plan that'll wrap up uh our trade targets episode for hawthor we'll move on to Melbourne in next week's episode and obviously you
