Clemson University graduate students are finding some new ways to help victims of natural disasters through engineering our Ariana Meadows was there as their new semi-automatic off-road rescue vehicle was unveiled deep orange 15 is a 15th generation rescue vehicle created by graduate students in Clemson University's prototype education program I'm me it was crazy like uh so we started from scratch from the ground up uh so we had to come up with you know what we see behind us it was like a blank slate for 2 years automotive engineering students researched and built this semi-automatic rescue vehicle the students not only have to do the math and the science but they also have to put their hands on things and make things and we emphasize the safety first and foremost but then the educational benefit of that process we're told deep orange 15 has the ability to travel on any terrain assisting military and rescue group First Responders with disastrous situations Engineers say rescue can program a route from point A to point B and from point B to point a the vehicle drives back by itself and um the the co-driver and the driver actually acts like a medic for the patient so the vehicle is driving back by itself and and uh the two people the two soldiers are taking care of the patient that injured this is made possible with its Advanced navigation system in the front and its 360° rotation passenger seat now that deep orange 15 is complete and Engineers say the vehicle will become a research property where research can be continued to find more ways to potentially save lives and yeah this is what we came up with so it was like a purely educational process we got to learn a lot along the way we got to make mistakes along the way and learn from them uh so yeah it was crazy I would say uh possibly one of the greatest experiences of my life student Engineers say they are looking to add multiple storage cabinets to deep orange to store medical supplies at Clemson's iar Center Ariana Meadows 7 News some parts of deep orange 15 will be sent off in a few weeks to researchers at Clemson's prototyping Center for some more testing
