Sideline Sports: NFL Week One In The Books, RB Jordan Mason & More

so unless you were under a rock since last Thursday we had one of the craziest week ones in the NFL we had a superstar on his face in handcuffs we had a game tying or winning touchdown missed by a toe we had one of the best players in the NFL ruled out an hour and 15 minutes before or Friday depending on who you want to believe Dave Seahawks won John's Dolphins won my Giants I don't know where they are the Atlanta Falcons they're still looking for Kirk Cousins I don't know if he showed up on Sunday there's a lot that's been going on you know dohaa Watson Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones break dancing is now an Olympic sport go practice because you guys are not NFL quarterbacks but let's bring daveon and Jay on let's talk about some positive things before Dave your Seahawks one and0 great win oh you said positive things I thought we were I thought we were GNA talk about the debate tonight no's watching all watching us I know hey I got it on my TV as a form I will tell you that that was very positive um man that defense very reminiscent of my my co-host Walter Thurman the third and that legion of boom just speed and flying around U now Denver is not the most offensive Juggernaut you know team around but I'll tell you what they they handled them defensively at one point I think through the third quarter uh Denver had rattled out 50 plays and average 2.6 yards a play nice yeah I mean that's that's dominant you know but conversely we gave up three safeties yeah never heard of that gotta work on that Jay speaking of Wis your Texans on the road get a Big W to start the week yeah leave it to my Texans to always give all of us houstonians a heart attack whenever they play the Colts especially in Indianapolis but uh we did pull off the win um but I will tell you this much and this is just me but I think ar5 is pretty damn good I I do and I think people may have given him a bit of a bad rap I understand they didn't have that many starts coming into the league but neither did Tanner Hill uh I think but I think he can be a lot better than Tanner Hill but uh but no hats off to the Colts for a great game uh and of course to my team you know great win now off to Sunday night to host the Bears and uh yeah um I could breathe a side of relief all right let's get to Quick hits we got enough talk talk about your two winning teams yeah wait wait wait who who no no no no we're not GNA let you slide with that easy you mean on the 100th anniversary of my Giants becoming a football team we have a quarterback that throws more pick sixes than touchdown since he signed a how many million dollar contract do we need to talk about that way too many millions even it's just one million is too many millions SE quad Barkley outscored his old team by three you know the fans that were gone at the end of the third quarter they had all of the the giant royalty that's alive in the building you want to talk about that I think we get to Quick HS yeah I think I think I think I think we've talked enough about it all right quick hits here we go all right let's start this up all right Texas demolishes number 10 m Michigan at the big house was this a stunner start with you Dave no yeah I I think um when we were talking about the games we were most looking forward to seeing you know initially in the season uh this was one for me I really uh was hoping that Texas was going a build off of last year and and they look solid um and I will tell you it's also um it's been fun to see you know my buddy Nate Boer you know the first week on the sidelines there with Matthew m con U and I I was teasing n Go hey Nate let's get Matthew out to our pickle ball event that we're going to do in Austin and and by the way that's May 10th we're going to do a pickle ball event for MVP merging vets and players uh down in Austin Texas so anyway no I wasn't I wasn't surprised at all um and uh it wasn't even close Jay let me preface this by mentioning uh some names here okay Jordan Whittington Javon Sanders Edan I Mitchell Xavier worthy Jonathan Brooks keelon Robinson dandre sweat there a couple others in there too that message is dedicated to all of you all trying to make the excuse that Michigan lost all these players to the draft our just about our whole offense minus Quinn eers went to that same draft uh am I shocked no I'm not shocked I thought Michigan would give us a bit of a better game than that but it but let this message be sent out and that is when Texas offense is clicking on all cylinders they can be just about Unstoppable um great win though by the horns yeah all right so Michigan's just not a very good team you know the preseason rankings mean about as much as listening to Colin coward they're useless you know it doesn't really matter and I like Colin but what he says doesn't change the outcome of games the better team went into the big house and spanked him but the story I liked the most that I read yesterday was how Eli Manning contacted his nephew and talked to him about his bad game because he went to mop up in the end of the game he went four for five I believe with a touchdown and a rushing touchdown if I'm correct he scored twice yeah so he missed one pass and Eli explained to him you know you should have been five for five you looked off the wrong receiver and you know you went to your you didn't go to your third read which was wide open now I love the fact that this kid's already so talented and yet he's getting coached besides the Texas coaches which are all quality by a two-time Super Bowl champion you may not think Eli nig's the best quarterback in the world or whatever but you you gotta say the guy won two Super Bowls both times he took a team that was a wild card team on the road throughout the whole playoffs be an undefeated Patriots team and here he is coaching his nephew in a game where his nephew had one incomplete pass try to make him better there this Texas team's gonna go all the way put it in the book now they're the national champions yeah you know JB aside from uh you know Eli as a singular person I mean that's that's the house of QBs right I mean Grandpa you know quarterback and and you can't judge his career on the record cu he was with a really bad team for the majority of his career um you know so and then his and big bro I mean when you're getting coached up by one you're getting coached up by all and that's that's a pretty good room to be in you know exactly yeah all right you know how about how about this though real quick before we move on on you know already the fans calling for the the new head coach for Michigan's head because they got beat so bad how ridiculous is that that's just stupidity yeah yeah yeah it's it's people that are that are spoiled the titled brats you're allowed to lose games it's his first big game since he became head coach he doesn't even have all his people there yet that he's recruited to run his offense and his defense you know that to me is just amazing yep all right all right number two Jay choose one band artist of your personal choice to perform with the Super Bowl Dave start with you okay so nobody's know going to know what I'm talking about uh but um either Iron Maiden or uh Queens Reich I've heard of both of them yeah I'm sure I know some of their music yeah Queens R is is my all-time favorite band but no I don't think they'd be as entertaining you know Iron Maiden or or Metallica you know that's and the halftime shows are just so one catered to one you know genre it's just give me some rock and I mean like real rock and roll not like you know Bruce Springsteen rock and roll I mean like rocking like heavy metal in let's bring the house down so bad about Springsteen I don't I I've never liked Springsteen so I don't know all right Jay well who do you wait wait before I move on though I do have to say I think the best show still was Eminem and Snoop and all those cats out there that was so entertaining to me that was that was good stuff any I digress it really was yes that really was a good one go ahead Jay who you got um I think I've seen just about any R&B or or hipop that uh there's the be that's already uh performed just about I mean it's going off the top of my head here I'm at agree with Dave and go with Metallica they already set the Guinness Book of World Records by being the only band to have performed on all seven continents I think the one box they have yet to check off is performing at the Super Bowl there we go that that would definitely be an interesting uh an interesting one uh this is a this is a tough question because most of the artists that I could think of that I that I like or have been there and the ones that I would choose will never get invited you know like I'd love to see GS of roses do the Hal time show at the Super Bowl you know that would be that'd be different years 20 years ago maybe yeah oh you know Queens ain't doing nothing now look at Dave's like got a point you know and they do have like you know the the best Anthem to start a game Welcome to the Jungle I mean what what will get you more pumped up than that when you're you know get ready to play yeah well I was like I said I was a big Queens drke fan but you know Welcome to the Jungle was was definitely a great song and um when I was up in Seattle my rookie season uh that was that was blasted on the 22s in my in in my blazer with the roof off you know like Eminem says radio up windows down we go yeah I mean come on you were a pumped after you heard that you were ready to kill somebody I'm sure that's it hey so this is different this is name somebody who would like to hear the national anthem oh that's a good and here's and here's one for you uh for me and it's I had to look it up because it's David damman who is the lead singer of uh Disturbed and he has a voice man they The Sound of Silence the Remake from Simon and gar funcle um it is so just deep baritone and he would I man they should give him the mic but interesting yeah what about you Jay oh um off the top of my head I [Music] probably um see but the ones that I had in mind immediately like they're not okay that I could say the weekend but he's from Canada that kind of doesn't count I could say Chris Martin from Coldplay but he's from the UK he kind of doesn't count you know um but some somebody's vocal that you would like to hear that you think could belt out the national anthem and and do a Whitney Houston bring you know raise the hair on your arms you know I mean that that that's that's still to me the hands down best national anthem ever done when when you are just like don't even care about the game you're just going man do that again that was that was awesome no I agree because I still like my top three uh national anthems performed of all time was Marvin gays at the Lakers game with the allstar game uh Jimmy Hendricks guitar solo and Whitney Houston you know if we're in the context of national anthems not like just a star spangle Banner um okay I guess um um Chris Martin could uh play uh God Save the King uh I guess um no no no I'm talking about I'm talking about the star spangle banner before a game the star spangle Banner okay specifically an NFL game when there's like just live 70,000 you know full throw you don't have to be an American to sing the national anthem Jay no you don't have to be all right put the weekend up there all right that's interesting can you see all right yeah all right I'm gonna go out there I'm GNA say Nora Jones oh I don't even know I don't know who that is I a Google she has a great voice all right it you know not not hugely popular but not uh you know someone that's unheard of but her voice is on On Target can she Sing the anthem I don't know but I'd like to see her try yeah all right all right the last one for the [Music] week what's this one I don't know why I had Dave in mind when this came up but go ahead wow what's your go-to at the height of winter hot chocolate or hot apple cider Dave really me first yeah I got to hear an answer to this one you've disappointed me with all our food conversations okay well frankly uh I I've never had hot apple cider so I'm going have to go with hot chocolate with or without marshmallows no marshmallows no no oh come on you don't like Marshalls you scare me you scare me more and more each week I I'll pour some coffee in it oh that's good interesting that's interesting all right I'll it it what you got J so the six-year-old kid and me would have picked hot chocolate the dop hot apple cider now is this just straight this is like straight like no like you know hot chocolate with uh Bailey's or you know there's no like there's no you know what I wasn't specific it's wide open if you want to coffee or or you're throwing marshmallows in there which is a waste of time well I'll go It Off Script I would have an Irish coffee if we if we could do it if it's you know that no C apple cider or hot chocolate oh it's that cold out we're going to get an Irish coffee can't go can't do anything better than Irish on the list you need the list the list I'm throwing out the quarterback KK cousins were disgusting in week one is their time up are they over the hill or was it just a bad week Jay let's start where you on this one Kur cousins I'm just gonna say it's a bad week you know it's not like they went up against a punk defense it is the Steelers um I think that the the the motor of the the Falcons offense will come in time I give it a a couple of weeks I don't think cousins is done I think he's got about two good years left in him how however far that may take him who knows I know he's got like the greatest agent in of the last five six seven years in the NFL with all the guaranteed money he got but um no and's coming off of a uh an injury I'm not going to Hound him too bad for it um Rogers came back from the injury last night we're going to get to him later and well he's not getting that bad of a criticism because maybe because he's Aaron Rogers I don't know you know um Watson yeah it might be time up it just might be time up not to mention the latest allegations that just came down and there's actual justification to release the man from his contract that's neither here nor there but outside of that what we saw I can't even call it a shell of DeShaun Watson because I've seen better I've seen better college games and I know that there's a difference between college and pro you know but the way he played on on Sunday and I get it Dallas's defense is is is still Elite even with the absence of Dan Quinn but Deshawn looked like he didn't even belong on a college field on Sunday so I think that might be it for you people out there who have watched The Gauntlet okay you've heard us time and time again when we bring up the Watson keep asking when is Texans Deshawn gonna come back when is Houston deshan gonna come back I think that guy's long gone Dave yeah but but even then uh Jay he he I mean he was he was always a fair quarterback I would never I would have I would have never have picked him for a fantasy team you know not even not even considered him as a second or or third QB just my personal feeling just never had a whole lot of uh um faith in him as a as a leader and you know we could talk about Dallas's uh defense uh this is the NFL you know every single week you're going to face a defense that's pretty damn good and it's got some good players on it so of course you know um I just I just wasn't uh you know big you know at some point in your career you just start to feel a little like you don't have the confidence um you know and of course the uh comparisons now with Baker moving on and and doing well and we' all seen the memes of um you know that's typical brown stuff you know Browns make a decision and it blows up in their face because the ownership there's and Leadership there's horrible we talked about this too you look at the Browns every given I would say for the last at least four seasons on paper you look at them go and this team should compete this team should get to the playoffs this team should be a threat deep into the playoffs and where are they you know I mean they they kind of you know there're they're they're kind of there but for that defense they should be much better much much better and I mean and and and the thing is is we just saw them go to the postseason last year with old man Flo fresh off the couch they were calling for him to get comeback play of the year and he only played like five games he was doing that amazing I know we knocked him out of the playoffs but did people watch the first meeting here in Houston when he shredded us like was like he looked like J he having 300 yard games and dropping dimes you know and then you know as far as Kurt Cousins is concerned he was you know he got injured well into the season and he's back they all said he's he's back well in advance of where he should be and that just goes to his work ethic and if you saw the the the shows about the quarterbacks and you know the the training he would do at home with his personal trainers at home and you know the dietician he has at home and the way he goes about this as a business is why he is back early but I think there's still that little bit of tentative you know you don't want to do it again and I think until he gets hit a few times and feels comfortable that uh okay man this thing's this thing's solid I'm good uh he might just have a little bit of difficulty being on on point so Dave you make a great point about Kirk Cousins I mean honestly I I wouldn't have played him this week because I don't think he's ready and you know the choice you have is your backup of your rookie or your third string of the rookie you know and the bad part about it was this was a winnable game and a weak Division I know Pittsburgh's out of the division but this division is weak so this is an important every win's important because that put you out ofe um you know and they rested Pedic the last preseason game they shut him down um hey cards with pada and then um they also you know kind of said he's done for the year he's not going to play anymore which I get but you know cousin just threw out a complete dud so what do we do going forward how far go until we see what he can do what he can't do you know so in my opinion with the rest of that offense there you know with beon with Pitts and everybody else they have can't wait forever for him I give him another couple of weeks if he's still looks like this that's it he's gota he's gotta ride the p as far as Deshawn Watson this guy I don't know he hasn't been the same since he had the year off he he's only gotten worse and declined you know obviously there's something deeper as far as the personal conduct issues that are going on that never got cleared up because there's more allegations now that's the first problem the second problem is with all that hanging over his head I'm sure it plays a part in his mental uh setup for the game his mental preparation it may not be you know on the front of his mind because I don't think he's sitting there thinking about it well gee I'm going to have to worry not another allegation came out I gotta make sure I hit this pass but I'm sure it weighs on him and secondly you take a year off from the speed of the game you may never get it back where you're able to play at the same level look at Levan Bell when he took the year off and he's a running back right the year without getting hit is actually better for a running back think about how he was when he came back he was never that same player he was in Pittsburgh you know and now as a quarterback you have to read everything quickly and see and scan the field and you take a year away from the speed of the game and then you try and come back you know it it all adds up to why he's not the same player and you know the Browns got hosed in that whole deal and they're wasting away a great defense but look you know their defense didn't look that good this weekend though all right what do we got next Jay uh right here all right last night's game the 49er stifle ARA Rogers onfield returned with a 3219 Monday Night Football Victory should should Gang Green more importantly should Robert Salah be concerned so I'm gonna start with this one because I watched the game last night and you know I was I was sitting there around 6 pm and I was saying to myself what do I want to bet tonight then it came out that mcaffrey was out and I'm saying I like the Jets I think it's gonna be a close game their defense is phenomenal I'm gonna go with the Jets I think they're win the game outright and I said this out loud and then the game started and they were up seven to three at the end of the first quarter Rogers looks good I have no concern with him coming back that ball was coming out of his hands he was zipping it in Lazard had a huge drop that cost him a first down I think was the first drive or the second drive but he looks like he ready to go Bree Hull this dude was overrated the 49ers defense if you look at the stats and what they've done their biggest issue with running the ball the second level the third level have problems tackling and usually once you get to that level they they go off Bree Hall didn't I don't know where he was Garrett Wilson was blanketed and Aaron Rogers said nobody else to throw to because Lazar dropped the pass and they kind of never really went back to him the rest of the game everything was kind of Wilson you know and the defense where was the defense Hassan reck is sitting on his couch saying you know what give me a call pay me and I'll come back and we'll get a pass rush because mcaffrey wasn't in last night and how many yards did Mason have 14 140 yeah he ran the lights out and that only did he run the lights out when they hit him he just bounced off him and put him down he was a bowling ball going through pins he was a hot butter going through knife hot knife going through butter he was phenomenal guess what he's undrafted from Georgia Tech what is with the Shad hands and undrafted running backs but he looked like he was an all pro so if I'm the Jets yeah I'm concerned because a you didn't show up the of the year you know granted Rogers look good but your running back Reese Hall he didn't look so good your all pro receiver Garrett Wilson I'm going to say I guess he was cover most of the night so that's why he didn't do much nobody else on the field really did anything it was pretty sad uh Dave what do you think you summed it up it didn't look like Aaron Rogers had any any weapons uh Aaron looked good I thought and uh you know the ball looked tight it was coming out of his hands and um you know he was controlling the he's Aaron Rogers I will say that I was really cheering frankly I was cheering for the Jets because I want the Seahawks to be in first place but once I watched that running back from the Niners run and the way he ran I was cheering for him you know what I was cheering for him because he was just getting his yards per carry uh his average per carry was but it had to be six six seven yards per carry he was 5.3 yards clip he was just mowing him you know and everyone was tting this Jets defense I didn't see it I didn't see I didn't see anything it looked like the ners were just just going moving at will against that team so that's a shame because you know all all year you're talking well next year you know we're gonna do better when Aaron comes back and then that's how you show up and I'll tell you what I'm not a Gambling Man JB but maybe you aren't either because I heard about your bet but um but the the Jets on a short week flying home after getting trounced and then having to fly again next week I don't know if they're going to be favored or not over a really bad team but I'll tell you what that that doesn't bode well for them they they I could see them going 0 and two real quick okay uh it most definitely was Jordan Mason's day and I know we're gonna get to him here on this next topic here um Aaron Rodgers uh he looked good out there here what he did um not bad for your first game back uh like Dave said the ball was coming out the zip was still there like Aaron Rogers still got a fast ball you know don't don't get it twisted um perie did good limited mistake oh and not to mention the one the one knock on Aaron Rogers was really wasn't a knock it was the interception but it really wasn't his fault it was like a it was one of those weird off the- foot like tip interceptions you know so I'm not going to fault him for that outside of that uh 49ers defense is just too much I I know that the Jets should have done better but it's not like they went up against the 31st rank defense the 49ers defense still flies and they still hit you know they were all over the place last night it it was a it was a good win for him sorry Dave don't want to hear that but uh it was a good win for him I will say though you know it watching Brandon auk you know you could tell when cats hold out and that ball there was one that went right through his hands you know which typically would have been an IU catch and and he looked he looked sluggish um and and another uh issue um Trent Williams you know having to come off the field and get an IV you know he held out all camp and he did not look healthy I don't know when you saw him walk off the field I mean I know he's a big cat but it wasn't it wasn't a healthy big you know what I mean and he came off I think in the third quarter had to go to the locker room get an IV it wasn't you know it wasn't wasn't that warm up in the Bay Area so hey um Dave quick question because you of course you play the G now we've seen this in basketball some players may come just a tad out and they kind of play their way in shape you know is is like is is it harder to do that in football or a little easier so football shape is different than any other shape right okay because you know basketball that's just condition all you got to do is be able to get back into condition get your legs underneath you so you can shoot you know uh you know and and you know make rebounds off the move and stuff like that but that's conditioning soccer is conditioning you know baseball as well you know baseball is just standing around doing nothing but so I don't know you know playing yourself into football shape and I think that's why we're seeing these injuries happened to the Rams depleted their offensive line they got two preseason or first SE uh game injuries um font from the Seahawks right tackle went out with a knee well you know you don't play yourself into football shape in a week or two that's why we used to have the preseason preseason and that's why the starters used to play the pre-season at least for a quarter you know and you do that for four weeks because you play yourself into shape during that period not during the first week of the season and we have to watch that mess and you know and I had great respect for him for this you know who was still playing preseason games at his big age Tom Brady 40 plus year old Tom Brady was still playing in the preseason y so Steve larent yep yeah larent too it's back in the day that's what you know you're playing for Chuck Knox you're you're uh preseason different time and different mentality yeah but it worked all right so moving on from the Jets and I I think they're overrated um let's go up let's talk we're going to stay with the same game though we're talk a little about Jordan Mason so Jordan Mason admits he found out he was starting on Friday despite Christian mcaffrey being listed as out an hour before the game so this is a huge problem so you won't and I'll explain it really simply right the NFL's now partnered with Draft Kings FanDuel and you know they want fantasy football we got a red zone channel so we can see who scores be a top of everything you know and one of the things that is important if we're going to do that is we need transparency if mcaffrey was out on Friday that gives me two days to decide what I want to bet or how I want to you know set up my fantasy lineup now the NFL knows there's a lot of money in this this is why that this is part of their rules and part of the system you know and obviously you know the injury report really doesn't help anybody but the betters you know nobody else is really getting helped by knowing he's hurt and he's out or not hurt or he's out the other team team kind of has an idea and you know they got a game plan for him being in anyway you know that they watch tape and all that but if you want to be in bed with the gambling companies you want to get that interest in the game because of it you need to be transparent and you got to have some sort of rules where there's a stiff penalty for doing this because you know if it it makes everyone's life uncomfortable if you're sitting there and you put in a bet and you're saying wow McCaffrey's out or mcaffry is playing so going to bet the the 49ers or I put in my fantasy lineup because he's playing and then he's out uh an hour before a Monday night there's nobody you could put in you know what do you think Dave well I I I think that the uh the players might have a voice in this because all these big contracts you see these guys signing is it because you know TV all of a sudden found billions of dollars it's because it's coming from these betting companies it's coming from gambling and the Partnerships that they formed and if the gambling companies feel like the NFL is not being transparent or honest with them and and jinking their customers I'm telling you what they're gonna have something to say about it um and because a lot of these well and I don't gamble but you would know there's whatever these doover bets you know like on stuff like that well gambling companies don't make money on doover bets you know they they have it as part of their platform in case you know something happens you know and and uh but but if it's because it's a controlled decision by a team that they're having to rebet a player for their for their clients and opening themselves up for a loss that's not going to fly for very long not at all Jay what what's your thoughts on this um you mentioned it uh at the very beginning JB um never forget that the NFL at the end of the day is a business and and the dollar is the bottom line and since they are in bed with the these betting companies the DraftKings the fanduels and all of them they're going to look to instances like this and they're going to say is this gonna ultimately affect the bottom line even if the answer for this incident was no someone's gonna chime in and say next time it potentially can next time it might be a yes do I think they're G to come down on a 49ers or something John mentioned it earlier uh today yes I believe so I think that they're going to uh come down with something on the 49ers I don't know if it's anything too harsh or anything um depending upon what was I don't know I don't have the semantics or anything in front of me but um I don't think it'll be anything too harsh but probably a you know like a don't do that again yeah no I definitely definitely hear what you're both saying I agree with both of you I I think the NFL needs to step in and investigate this it's a kind of a he said she said because Mason said one thing the coach said another in the postgame press conference so you know we're not going to get to the bottom of it the NFL may they they have better investigators than sideline Sports because we're not we're not investigating NFL locker rooms we we conduct interviews but we're not gonna investigate that's the NFL's job um what do we got next Jay all right all right so this is a great topic and I you know I came up with this one as I was thinking so this weekend we had two huge upsets the biggest favorite in the NFL was the Cincinnati Bengals and they bungled that game against the Patriots and lost rafhael mentioned it last week he said a lot of people are going to go with Cincinnati in the Survivor pool and a lot of people are goingon to be worried that whole afternoon and sure enough they lost and then you know the good old Fighting Irish who play Nobody the rest of the year except for USC they were playing the Northern Illinois believe they're the Huskies Huskies yeah the Northern Illinois Illinois Huskies uh number five Notre Dame and they got beat they attempted a game winning field goal at the end and it got blocked um interesting fact on Northern Illinois they are the only unranked team to win a game since 200 I believe it's eight against the ranked Alabama and a ranked Notre Dame team on the road interesting fact but which of these two was the bigger upset in your Bible story you Dave hands down Northern illino hands down I mean that what was the what was the you know what was the point spread what was the uh the percentage that Notre D was going to beat him was a 99.9% or something crazy and um you know to see the emotion of that head coache chapter just in tears because you know his kids just did something that frankly is is unthinking a it's um it's just like theg that one little school that beat Michigan when they were ranked um you know huh Appalachian State Appalachian State right I mean and how awesome is that actually for the game also for these kids I mean that's why you play the game everyone just assumes oh these are layups these are layups till you come across a group of kids and say you know what you know why not why not beat Notre D why not walk in there you know and and do something that's unbelievable um you know the Patriots and Bengals I don't get too excited frankly I don't think either one of those teams are very good somebody had to win that game so you know it's the NFL NFL is pretty equal but Northern Illinois and Notre Dame was not an equal match so that's that's a huge upset okay uh yeah I'm gonna go with a Northern Illinois over Notre Dame um Rafael said it last week you know um everybody was you know going um bingles bingles bingles bingles bingles and he kind of hinted that hey this has upset written all over it and lo and behold you hold um Joe burrow and Company to 10 points at home and then scored just enough to win great win by Gerard Mayo this is the beginning of an era a new era in New England and they might not be much of nothing this year but hey this could be one of their one of their potentially a few highs or for all we know hey they could stun us all because we've seen a few stunners last year and they could win nine games I don't know the NFL is a crazy place I know some people don't see it but hey they didn't see my Texans last year neither so there's that also um interesting thing with the whole Northern Illinois thing because you come into you come into I almost said Fort Ben no that's here in Houston you come into South Bend and you hold them to only 14 points you shut them out in the fourth quarter you kick the winning field goal with what like a a minute something like that and not to mention the most hilarious part y'all too ready for this everybody at home Northern Illinois got paid $1.2 million to go play Notre Dame that's that's what they call a win-win Jay absolutely that's a win-win so SPS hey the Patriots beat the Bengals but let's not get too excited because uh Seattle's going to walk in there next next week and uh and it they'll be oneon-one let me just tell you that all right yeah so what you JB listen it's really simple Northern Illinois they're they're a tough tough little school they they have heart they went out there they did what they had to do the Patriots listen it's the NFL any team can win any Sunday you know it is it is a huge upset when the biggest point the biggest favorite on the board loses for sure and they were they really had no chance of winning that game if you know the whole way you know the Patriots control the game from start to finish Northern Illinois fought from the beginning to the end to hold on to a victory and a way bigger upset the idea of beating a top five school so basically you know your top five in the in college to me would be your equivalent of the Kansas City Chiefs on the next level you know and still in the NFL any team can beat anybody Kansas City has a gun undefeated but in college they set up the schedules and everything so that they try to go undefeated so I definitely got to go with Northern Illinois um another scary fact the coach in Notre Dame this is his third loss already where he was an 18p pointer more favorite at home yeah so he's he's got a big problem with that you big problem you can't lose games you're supposed to win especially especially at home and then have a a schedule the rest of the year that doesn't have quality opponents on it when you try to get to the playoff so it was a tough tough week for the Irish great win by Northern Illinois the Patriots should be proud of what they did nobody expected anything from them went an opening weekend to Cincinnati you know Joe Burrow's house and said now we got this Joe go sit on the side with uh T Higgins you know and they took the game they they controlled her from wire to wire great win by them but not not a surprise against Northern Illinois hey how about that goal line uh turnover by the Patriot saving the touchdown I think it was right around the second quarter or something like that dude was on his way in and got it punched out and Patch Rec cover and it made the difference how about that but think about the difference of the team Jay you guys down at Houston took a key part to the bagels offense Joe Mixon that nobody really thinks was a big part of their offense quality running back MH who would have had the ball to goal line Joe Mixon would have been Mixon and then Mixon runs the lights out on the Colts um just this past weekend he had 100 on the ground and a score yep nobody gives any credit to any of the running backs but that's the difference in that game that turnover changes everything it did even though they had the rest of the game to play but Dave I'm sure you've watched more than enough game film to say like hey it could go either way I know they had the rest of the game but considering how the game went yes it was the difference why you gotta limit the mistakes all right what do we got next Jay all right and final topic all right so week two the we're over the overreaction from week one what games of week two are we looking forward to right now well uh on Thursday night we got Buffalo at Miami uh at Miami already start with that one all right so you you that's an intriguing game to you why is that intriguing um I love to see uh rivalry games especially between the Dolphins and the bills there had been so you remember they was like last season or the season before last we were on a streak of like like six bad Thursday night football games before we finally got to a good one matter of fact it was Seahawks Cowboys uh that that was the first good Thursday night game of the season and then here we are we got Buffalo Miami week two so I always get excited for Buffalo and Miami uh of course the bills is Resurgence in re recent years as well as the Dolphins I I I I can't recall a time in the past where both teams were both those teams were good at the same time because usually it was one and then one was kind of faltering and then vice versa but and I'm not comparing the quarterbacks okay so so host of your guns okay um the last time I'd seen it back and forth and the teams were this good was Kelly versus Maria you know you know uh so but no it it's and then considering the whole Tyreek Hill thing and and such and you know and that's a whole another topic as well but uh but it does add a little bit of uh Intrigue to the game as well and also you got the bills would have come from behind Victory on the Cardinals they had no business down to the Cardinals 14 or nothing but whatever they got the job done 34 to 28 shout out to the Cardinals though they hung with them um so no I think it's going to be a good game um thing so I mean you know the MVP of the league Josh Allen because they took away his receivers he has no defense he's the running back and the quarterback so it's basically Josh Allen versus the world the bill should change their Jersey and team name to the Josh Allen because who else is helping him right I guess he needs a center to snap him the ball you know besides for that his offensive Line's not that great it's basically him vers the world Miami they had a tough game they were behind to Jacksonville Jacksonville controlled the the game throughout the uh four quarters and before you know it they just stopped playing and Miami came back Tyreek Hill had a long 80 yard touchdown pass from Tua after he got put on the floor um I'm excited to see these two teams play both coming in one and0 both had come from behind victories um it'll be interesting to see which one of these two come out ahead right now I'm going to say I think Buffalo takes it because they have Josh Allen and it's him vers the world Dave yeah well I I think I think Miami is um they just got too much too much Firepower and you know I'm glad John's not here because you know I really I really expect them to do to do well this season you know I I think there's just too much too much to put on one player's shoulder especially in the NFL as much as I like Josh Allen and I'm a huge Josh Allen fan um I just think it's too much to ask and I'm just G I was just going to pull up here the um the other the other games uh of course you know I'm looking forward to Seattle going 0 and two that's GNA be a lot of fun well Dave We're not gonna talk about the Seattle game we're gonna watch haulk talk at o' 9 o'clock Central 10 o'clock Eastern 7 o'clock Pacific because we all know that's Dave's favorite game well we're going to limit him from picking that game yeah well but it so I'm just kind of looking through the through the matchups you know um I don't I really don't see anything else I they're all pretty easy to pick to be honest um I think the only one that that might be uh a little tough is the Rams against Arizona uh Arizona looked really good this weekend uh going into um um into what do they they play buffalo buffalo Buffalo yeah Buffalo in Buffalo I me they scored almost 30 points against them on on the road and you know and the Rams are really down on their their offensive line I think that poor kid that poor that poor left tackle he uh you know you haven't played a whole lot they why don't you go run on in there and play Aiden Hutchinson yeah hon just it was like it was like a clinic it was like okay I'm gonna do this move now now I'm gonna do this move now I was actually watching to see what mov he's going to put on this kid I don't think he touched him once you know and I'm like oh my gosh I feel I don't know I don't know if that guy's still on the roster or not I think he has to be because R so many injuries but you know there there's not a whole lot of too too many exciting games it'll be interesting to see how Dallas looks I was just thinking that Dave I was you know because there was a lot of talk about New Orleans after and destroyed Carolina which nobody thinks Carolina's gonna be any good but right Derek Carr played a clean game 19 2 they scored a ridiculous number of points you know so I'm curious to see now that they have a real challenge because they're not going to be up you know whenever they were up at the half they were up they they scored they were 47 to 10 and they were up at the half 30 to3 yeah they're probably not doing that this week but now they to go on the road short road trip to Dallas Jerry's World against a a team that you know overs surpassed what everyone thought would happen in Cleveland everyone thought it was going to be a great game in Cleveland they would have spanked the Browns yeah it it it was a really ugly game yeah so I mean now you know I'm not huge on Derek Carr a lot of people aren't but now let's see what he can do he coming coming off a good game playing a really good defense one of the best in the league what do they do with this situation so that game kind of intrigues me that was a good good choice Dave yeah you know I and I think you know Derek Carr need that first game I think he needed a positive first game uh to even have a chance to have a decent game against Dallas or even have a decent season because you know he's he's really kind of struggled and and trying to find himself again we you know you know he's talented um but he's just had some rough years and so I think that was a perfect first game for him um but he is going to go in into Dallas and face a much better defense and we'll see how he does then when he's you know running a little bit will dial it up totally changes the whole the whole perspective of it you know looking at the schedule one of the games before Jordan love got hurt the Colts heading up to Green Bay this had all the makings of a great game yeah intrigued but for a different reason I want to see what Malik Willis could do you know he was in Tennessee they gave up on him awfully quickly here he is getting another chance in Green Bay uh unfortunately because Jordan loves Al for a few weeks they didn't put him on IR so he can come back before the four weeks but here he is he's going to be running the Packer offense which looked pretty de looked decent uh in their last game against Philly and the Colts had a tough game against Houston no not a bad loss they lost by two they played tough um you know they're GNA play another good team but without Jordan love there the Packers just aren't the same it just it takes away a little bit of the juice and I'm hoping that it's a good game but I want to see more of Anthony Richardson I really like what he's done so far I liked what he did before he got hurt last year thought he had a good game this week um you know love Jonathan Taylor for the Colts think the cult are an upcoming team problem is they have Houston in The Division and Houston is just GNA be really good thanks to that the Sha trade they they robbed Cleveland and the Packers are on their way back up with Jordan love but he's not there right now because we got Malik Willis that game guys uh yeah I'm I I'm intrigued also as well uh seeing if Malik Willis could actually go out there and and and stun the Packers uh it would have been great to see uh Jordan love versus um excuse me I'm sorry um stun the Colts I would have been great to see uh Jordan love versus ar5 uh but this just may be ar5 you know uh win right here um but if it was close I would not be surprised uh at all because the NFL can be weird a little weird sometimes uh who's to say Malik Willis and I get it Malik Willis has shown us you know little than nothing so far you know um but I think that he will be inspired that he's gonna be the one to hold it down until Jordan love gets back um so with that being said uh now if they can watch game enough game field of what they did of of of what we did against them and I'm not saying they got a mirror anything like that but the normal game field you know pick out the holes pick your spots type of deal but uh Malik Willis might give them a game just may give them a game and it may be one of the the biggest surprise of the weekend for all we know but yeah I'm I I'm gonna have it on my on my laptop anyway so whether it's a blowout or or a close game or not yeah I I think the only surprise is if if Willis has a good game I I don't see that happening I see Indianapolis dialing up he obviously wasn't you know a big part of the game plan you know you never planned for your number one quarterback to go down and um you know I I think Indianapolis will handle them I I did see one game that I uh wanted to get out the way real fast and that's Tampa at Detroit now the NFL decided to be funny and make Detroit's first two games rematches from the playoffs Tampa at Detroit Tampa at Rams this right here has the potential for game of the weekend because we've seeing what Baker maker B ah my goodness I can't talk what Baker Mayfield is doing out there in Tampa Bay Grant it yes he uh slung the lights out against the commanders I get it it's the commanders okay but you gotta you gotta start off something you can't help who you who you play in the NFL you know this is a college ball all right he went out there he threw four touchdown pass he did what he had to do Detroit meanwhile wonn a tough one against the Rams last year was I believe a seven-point victory in favor of Detroit I'm circling Detroit for this one but I something's telling me to where where's the game at Jay Detroit it's in Detroit yeah Detroit y but but this but this has Tampa still in it all over it and and I might have to think a little bit more on this one I don't know why I tell you you know Detroit Detroit didn't look totally solid to me you know they they I I I've always said this I've said on every show we start talking about Detroit I'm just not a golf fan I I I get it you know he had a decent year and all that stuff but just not a huge fan when he struggles he gets he just I don't doesn't impress me and so you know Baker Mayfield is one of those guys man he's so streaky man he gets going and and and he could just go um but the fact is in Detroit you know the other thing is is that Alan R Brown was a non-factor in that Rams game I'm going to tell you right now that kids catching 12 passes against against Tampa Bay because Alman Ron's not GNA sit there quietly and and not right get one of the biggest contracts in the league and sit there and say okay throw it to me three times that that's not happening and not to mention on Detroit side luckily they figured out just in time hey we need to feed Dave Montgomery well best offensive line in the league got the best offensive line in the league they have one of the best defensive uh pass rushers uh with Hutchinson they're solid up front and that's where in my opinion you win games and I think I think Detroit figures it out and and comes out swinging uh this weekend well real quick I mean Detroit should be 0 and one sha McVey is an awful coach two and a half minutes left Detroit already took a timeout after first down you throw the ball on second down and third down for the two-minute warning so now you give him the two-minute warning and two timeouts left and nobody talked about it because the mcy we all love him I don't know why he's a horrible coach he cost his team the game if he runs the ball those two times Detroit runs out its time and the Rams win going into this week There's a couple of things amarat Brown wasn't used properly he was covered the whole game he's GNA he's going to play Big Montgomery really get his carries till the end they their offense just didn't seem like it was in sync I don't see that happen in two weeks in a row Grant to Tampa got a good defense but they beat him once and they score points on him once this is a good Detroit team I see them W in this game it'll be a good game though but I I don't see them struggling the way they did this week on offense at all but please where is anybody any of the national critics Mad Dog radio bab uh any of those guys nobody points it out Sean McMay how do you not run the ball after the first down play you ran it they make him take a time out you you don't want to win you have that much faith in your quarterback and cost you the game you're 0 and one you need to win that game you're not the best team in your division the 49ers are Seattle may be better than you so you're third Arizona may even be better than you see maybe be fourth in Your division you could have pulled out a road Victory against one of the best teams in the conference but your coach cost you the game sorry I had to get that off my chest that irritated me nobody talked about that yeah and hey I I I do um of course Aman Ross St Brown was essentially you know a non-factor but I know who was a factor that other guy Jameson Williams five for 121 and a touchdown uh he put up a he put up a good number of fantasy points this past weekend I know that yeah I mean it's crazy real quick we got like less than a minutes ago before they end of the show uh had the opportunity to watch Caleb Williams first game uh he's not bad but the Bear's offensive line maybe the worst offensive line in the history of offensive lines Dave you would have been sick if you watch that game being an offensive lineman that's how bad it was there was a a pitch where the uh the guard or tackle pulled he went to block the guy he went over him somehow missed him completely and the guy made the tackle it was the ugliest blocking scheme I've ever seen in my life Caleb will was never had more than a second to make a throw uh I was talking with somebody who was a Bears fan who was complaining that he overthrew two guys and that he took a 19 yard sack when he had no tomby escaped one one sack and he got hit with by another guy that that line is atrocious give the kid a chance he looks like he's okay for what he what he has TI which is hardly ever uh Dave real quick what's the biggest struggle you have like 20 seconds the biggest struggle to put together the Five Guys on the offensive line to get them to be cohesive quickly it's time hands down time time together time playing together the best offensive lines hang out together do stuff do stuff on the days off get together with their families and continuity that's what it boils down to you can have all the talent in the world but man if they're not on the same page they're not going to be good all right guys speaking of time we don't have
