Texas A&M's Spring Game takeaways

this to take a look at A&M in their spring game and what they look like I mean new new coaching staff new offensive coordinator first thing we're looking at is Colin Klein and his new offense that they're running here at A&M and obviously it was a tough day the offense was quite a bit behind as far as the defense A&M had been defensive team obviously and then of course Elco coming in there he's an absolute guy and they had some really good players on defense but right here this is a really good scheme every running looks like a fade out over here these guys are running across and then this running back has a shake he's work to the middle this backer that has him manto man over rotates eyes on the quarterback and he creates an easy throw in the middle of the field once that clears out and this linebacker over rotates out there he can't change directions with the back now creating an explosive play this was one of the very rare big plays there for Texas A&M in this game but I thought this was a great design must have seen that guy over rotating know that it's manto man now he can work back to the Middle Field easy throw catch you just stop it right there I mean you can't make an easier throwing and catch for about eight yards away from each other huge play turns into a big play just right there with a little bit of MISD Direction don't move there for the running back next thing we going to look at is basically the number one run that they had and that's pin and Pull and it's one of those runs that if you get really good at these guys aren't getting a ton of penetration can't get on the edge so it's down blocking if you got ass anybody on your inside Gap you're going to down block if you don't you're going to pull right here on this one you're getting a pull from the front side guard and center and they're working outside great job here by the back letting all this work out as he's getting to the edge and staying flat uh is the thing staying flat right there there's your kick there's your lead by the second pull center now let's get vertical and right there about seven eight yards on that pin and pull to the tight end that's one thing that they did quite a bit more than most teams have done and they have an inline tight end right here you got a tight end over here to the left running pin and pull that direction able to get the Ed no look at Pin and pull this time they're only pulling the center you got your fullback over to the front side to help seal the edge and right there again going flat getting vertical that Center pulling around for that guy is going up to the linebacker so thought this was again a real patient run get behind your puller and then right there just the athleticism to go they got some backs man they they really have some backs that can go and this this dude right here is absolute guy I mean he's out here outout running guys stiff arming a dude to the ground again pen and pull is going to be big for him this year looked really good in the game on Saturday another look here again pulling the guarden center like they did on the first play over here inline tight end down blocking on a seven Tech down block down BL they got the edge they're going to kick the corner who end up firing leading up on the safety if you can get that kicking a corner leading on the safety is what you want gets about N9 10 yards right here on this one again backfield loaded tons of dudes that can go anytime you can get on the edge make those guys run make those safeties fit into the box a little bit differently and also punishing a guy I mean you got a guy right here trying to play over the top gets absolutely ran through flatbed right there so really like this run scheme for A&M and col Klein here's another thing that's going to be a staple of K Klein's offense you got a guy over here receiver that's pretty tight he's working to the flats right here they're going to seal make go like outside run obviously they're running some pin and pool outside Zone all these different things now you're getting a guy working all the way across especially if you're playing manto man how you going to play that manto man he's going to the flats you can't stick tight to him quarterback whips his eyes around easy throwing catch right here getting the ball to the flat these guys playing way over the top you got guys booting across this tied end that sealed the edge now he's working back out as another option as well probably either a comeback or a corner there but on the outside receiver guy working across so you do have options but the number one option is open right there so take it get the ball to one of your best guys in space see if they can tackle right there and again MISD Direction off those outside runs after we saw him run that pin and pull can be huge working that backside with a progression getting the quarterback out of the pocket look right here res on goal line concept that is really good I mean it's most those things if they're running spring gam is probably as staple what they're doing you got power up front to the left with the shovel option and the first thing you're looking at is what does this DN do if he gets up field not allowing you to get on the edge you're just to shovel this thing you're going to run power you basically block that guy it's power read just with a sprint out and right there he gets the edge cuz he squeezes now on the outside they've got a rub route a corner and as you see this guy right here worked there and got the rub made him follow that allowed the quarterback to get the edge and rip it to his guy on that rub route for a touchdown really intricate play I mean it starts off reading that defensive end if he's getting up field or not squeezing you're going to flip the shovel option right here to the running back but he squeezed so now he got the edge to that work that rub rub route and they get a guy open there for an easy touchdown easy throw and catch great design there from Colin Klein and the A&M staff now we're going to take a look at just some of the Playmakers on the outside and three right here is obviously their stud on the outside couple Square in here and then the corner inside leverage manto man quarterback knows that his guy is oneon-one throw it in that space let you guy go great effort right there di gets hands underneath it on that corner route see if you can make a play for you running back death was huge I mean they they got some guys that can really go I thought this might have been the most impressive run till the end of it right here runs through one arm tackle just the explosiveness and burst to hit that runs through two arm tackles and now you got a safety trying to get fill in there stiff arms him to the ground three tackles but then right here corner is able to get the ball out got to be strong with the ball at the end but just the aggression speed strength to run through those arm tackles could be a big big time player here for A&M in the Run game they're by number eight still got to find a way to finish with the football though at the end of it another running back here this looks like the Fun Bunch though the young guys and this guy's a different breaking the tape they got some Playmakers there in the back field A&M another look of a way Colin Klein's going to try to find a way to get three the ball Jet Sweep right here looks like they're possibly reading the DN got a couple guys out here leading and now three's out there in space one of your best players just like in basketball final way to get the ball to go through the net for your ey give him give him the ball in space see what happens gets 10 plus yards to one of your better dudes get him in space see what happens good design another play for three quarterback does a good job on this one hey he steps up now he's working to the left and he's got got his guy number three is down there saf's got his back turn throw the ball up see what your guy does and right here on this one he goes up and he mosses a guy I mean this is a huge play probably their best guy on the edge without a doubt maybe one of the best ones in the SEC then we're going take a look at just some of the quarterback play here for A&M and on this one I think this is just a poor quarterback play on this quarterback gets his eyes down they just have a b route you got a couple out routes right here there's a blitz I mean they're bringing bringing guys you got just got to find time his eyes started here step up in the pocket and throw the ball right now to him don't bring your eyes down just try to run get your eyes up it's a blitz there's going to be somebody open it's two on one right here get the ball out of your hand stop just pulling your head down and trying to run get the ball out to your guy it's a big play if you do that and it's not that hard I mean just step up as you feeling this pressure instead of getting your eyes down just slide throwing the ball right now off your back foot I mean you're an athlete you can do that if not got to find somebody else here's another play uh from a different quarterback and on this one again it's almost like the quarterback just gives up on this play now of course this guy gets rocked cool it's not perfect all right he's looking here doesn't like it right there to the tight end whatever it is now just bring it back down he just spikes it into the ground why why the heck don't you just throw it to the guy go up and over this dude and just give him the ball why would you just Spike at his At His Feet which I understand that's what quarterbacks are taught hey if the screen's not there throw his feet but guess what it is there the guy's open right now why the heck won't you just throw him the ball and see what happened that's that's one of those things that I don't understand he's just being a robot don't be a robot man fake do something get him the ball I don't care if it's a scrimmage find a way to be a playmaker no look right here throwing a bubble out here for the quarterback and to me it just looks like a robot I mean you got to get this thing out a lot quicker this is a pre- snap read CU you're not getting this thing really into the stomach of the running back and he's dropping anyway if this is a post Snap read he's dropping our numbers are right in the box but it's pre- snap you got to get this thing out a lot quicker so these guys don't have to block for nearly as long they had to block for an extra half second and by the time the ball got to is's a little bit wide the ball is inaccurate it's behind you got to put this thing on his face mask so that if it's right here instead of here he's able to catch it see this guy with the leverage and then go vertical so bad placement on the ball it takes forever to get out just really poor play there by the quarterback throwing the bubble pre- snap no look here this is a post Snap read I think they're actually reading that guy somehow now of course they got a free the end as well there's the bubble quarterback going to his left makes it look a lot quicker getting out but again inaccurate ball fing on his back shoulder got to get completion though got to around that out linebacker that was trying to get hands up but there's the bubble is about 3 four yards hopefully he can put that thing on his face mask be a little more accurate there for the quarterback give our guy a better chance to be successful out there in space of course wide receiver doesn't play with just a whole lot of momentum either just gets absolutely formed up as he's just kind of hopping around this right here is a pretty impressive throw just just based off of athleticism and talent I mean he's stepping up the pocket it's a bit of a mesh he's working back across to the running back there's the mesh coming across trying to beat manto man he starts rolling a little bit really no reason to roll but he does anyway which is fine and right here starts rolling and just the pace on this ball that he's got off his back foot off off platform rips it to him puts it right where you want to right on his chest I thought that was a really good throw really good throw and catch right there by the quarterback making a play right there off platform so we saw con Klein's offense we saw some Playmakers on the edge and in the back field we also saw a little bit on QB play now we're going to look at Elco and the defense these line got absolutely after the quarterback and right here these dudes must have been watching Dwight Frey highlights all year in the off season just watch this spin move right here oh my gosh that's unbelievable no chance there for the tackle and they did this all day I mean they were getting after the quarterback if you watched it you could see man it everything the offense did was really a struggle because up front they couldn't handle that defensive line of course a they lost some guys that were highly talented but they are still getting out the quarterback talent's not going to be an issue especially on the defensive side great move right there another look here same guy it's number 11 spin move I mean Dwight Fry would be absolutely jacked up about this of course want to keep our feet right here on this one he's falling down about to run to his own dude's knee give him an issue right there but again the spin move how quickly that can happen and get into the quarterback's face I that was really impressive it must have been working that all offseason but right there getting pressure quickly on the quarterback with just a fourman rush I appreciate you guys watching think that it's going to be really interesting for A&M this next year they're going to have some Talent on but both sides of the football make sure you share the video with fellow fans especially A&M fans would love to hear what you guys think of the 2024 season how the agies are going
