all right let's talk about Keon Coleman the player who was selected with pick 33 of the NFL draft uh you know wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills definitely they need a a guy who can be a good player as they lost Stefon Diggs their wide receiver one for many years and let's talk about how Keon Coleman played in this preseason as we finally got to see some uh some of him and I'll be honest I think it was an up and down preseason performance by him we can start off with a positive something that we definitely want to see from him is to just be like a outside threat someone who can just win on the outside consistently the way we saw with Diggs it's uh this one it's going to essentially be a one-on-one match up with this curl route just past the first down marker on a third and six watch how when this play begins Keon Coleman kind of known for having this uh you know great height at 6'4 but can still move really well uh he got some DK mataf com uh you know uh comparisons also some Christian Watson comparisons so two ends of the spectrum but you see right here for the corner here for for uh the buffal the Buffalo Bills for the uh you know Chicago Bears he's definitely having to respect Coleman's speed he can't just hang with him he has to give a couple of yards and because of that when Coleman Cuts he gets pretty significantly open actually really open on that play and is able to pick up a first down on third down this is the stuff that when you when you draft Keon Coleman this is what you're looking to see obviously the downfield Deep uh shots is also what you're hoping to see but this stuff as well however I now want to go over here it was not not always working that way especially you know they tried them a couple times in the end zone which was again something that we would definitely see them look towards Diggs in these types of plays they're hoping for you know Coleman to be a potential digs replacement well how does he do on these types of plays you see the route one-on-one matchup as you see when it begins is it working well maybe a little I mean you can certainly see why the quarterback is looking in this direction right it's certainly not wide open or anything like that but okay we can give this a shot however it just it's it's not complete a bit of a high throw would have been tough for him to make the grab as well but there wasn't a huge window anyway so uh you know basically did not get the touchdown there right uh regardless of how much you want to say it's his fault how much you don't want to say it's his fault this one kind of another one where it's again going to be a one-on-one matchup you'd love to see him be able to win this one find a way to make the grab get the touchdown all that good stuff however again here you're going to see that this one does not quite work out it looks like it hits him in the hands I think the uh Steelers player might have gotten his hand on that one a little bit to disrupt it or gotten his hands on Coleman a little bit to disrupt it but either way again uh not not winning right again I'll let you decide how big of a deal you think it is but that being said I did see some nice stuff from him I thought he did have some really nice plays like for example this one what's going to happen is it's a a deep shot and he you know a couple nice plays where he didn't get the ball I guess I should say spoiler alert but let's watch what happens so the way this is designed is you see that you know the bills quarterback throwing more over the middle right here and because of that that's where the Steelers players are looking but if you look at Coleman he is kind of about to get open right here he moves so quickly that like I do wonder if you look in that direction I think there was a window for him to get open because of how quickly he's getting to his spot I get why that's not where the quarterback was looking I'm not blaming him or anything as you see he throws it there and they they're able to pick up a you know a good amount of yards on that play got close to the first down marker and uh you know ran to off ran to play well it worked out but it's kind of showing that I think that there are potential windows for Coleman to get some yards that weren't necessarily used uh when we saw him play like this one being another one where it's going to be a uh you know a similar situation to the first one a little bit where it's Zone coverage it's a second down two you see the route on the screen uh kind of this route going towards the sideline but what I really like about Coleman which I haven't really brought up yet is I don't think he's just one of those guys who is big and fast but that's it I think he can move well and he can cut well and this play will be an example of that watch as you see he is going to you know start off with this play not giving away whatsoever what he's running so you see the corner who's covering him I mean the corner is bailing at this point which is good news cuz he's already like four yards past Coleman so for Coleman who isn't running a go route watch when he cuts I mean he gets significantly open I I think that corner thought he was running a go route I think that's what he thought was happening again would have been tough there was help underneath but there there was a window to make that throw had to quarterback been looking in that direction and that's something I did see a decent amount as well with Coleman is well again I understand why some of these throws didn't go in his Direction it felt like had the goalen to feed Keon Coleman they could have gotten him some more yards absolutely of course you can say that with any receiver in any game but you that's why receivers always uh complain about their targets after the game cuz usually there are opportunities for a situation where you would have been more open it's just not always how it works but still even with that accepted there's going to be some of that I think there was an even more uh large chunk of that for Coleman so what do I make of Keon Coleman's performance as a whole well you know I think uh film studies for receivers tend to be pretty like good you can often you visually show what I want to show uh pretty well you know I've often talked about my complaints sometimes with offensive line film studies is that it's sometimes difficult to convey exactly what I mean visually cuz I can't show like 100 plays in a row so when it's a consistency thing if an offensive lineman is really consistent but maybe doesn't have highlights it's hard to really convey that um for Keon Coleman I think that there is a bit of a consistency issue I would say at least from what he again very small sample size but from what I saw in the preseason I would have liked to see the good plays more I think it's fair to say like again for Keon Coleman it's unfair to expect him to be Stefan digs right it's uh kind of reminds you know when Stefan digs got traded the first time it was unfair for Jefferson to to be Stefan digs Justin Jefferson to be Stefan digs and he ended up like surpassing it that's unusual that's not what you can expect to have happen maybe a better example is like when the Titans traded for uh TR a pick that they used for trayon Burks they traded away AJ Brown for a first round pick drafted tayum Burks and it's like okay tray and Burks now has to try and be AJ Brown that's not really fair especially when Keon Coleman isn't even a a first round pick right so uh you can't just go expect him to be that guy well you have to go in and is hope that he can just be a player that can help out the team and I I would like to see a bit more consistency for him I would there did seem to be a decent amount of uh routes that he was just covered on but at the same time the highlights were there the good stuff was there and like I do think he should be able to come in right away and at the very least be a solid contributor for the bills and what I saw on film in the preseason suggested that like he can come in and be a contributor um like as a a numerical rating I think I'm going to give it like a six out of 10 it wasn't anything special and maybe a touch underwhelming for someone like me who liked him coming out of college but I still think there is enough stuff there and of course it just has to be mentioned it's the preseason I don't know what his goal was on some of these maybe some of these plays where he was you know like there was one play that I almost used until I watched a couple times and realized what was happening where it was like he was kind of going out there and like jogging but he was just jogging to a spot to help someone else get open and it's like okay what is it's istic practice like that's why they're doing this play like so like I could use it as an insult but it's it's not because that was what he was trying to do so uh you know there's always that stuff always goes into account so as a whole I don't know it it was fine uh maybe not the most exciting end to a video usually people like either uh he was awesome or he was terrible but a lot of times people aren't awesome or terrible they're just fine that's how keang Heman was so at least that's what I think what do you think let me know in the comments below always love hearing from yall and of course as always thanks for watching
