the 10 News Weather Authority always watching and tracking for you from the Jes weather center we still have some bouts of heavy rain although the rain is not as widespread uh nor are we dealing with any severe weather like we were earlier this evening but nevertheless some heavy downpour situated out across portions of alagan bath and Rockbridge counties areas right now right over Goan seeing some pretty heavy rain some moderate rain in and around Lynchberg and points South towards Campbell County and we even have a little bit in the way of some heavier downpours out across portions of Halifax County now as we Zoom this picture out you'll notice that we have not been alone in dealing with these showers and thunderstorms today uh really are neck of the woods and points north towards Pennsylvania we've been dealing with our Fair show of rain and thunderstorms off and on for about the last 8 to 10 hours and now the worst of the weather appears to be heading towards Richmond and also towards Petersburg here in the Commonwealth now as far as futurecast is concerned the ongoing Trend will be for us to see the showers and thunderstorms tapering off tonight however tomorrow we start like we did today with some fog and some sunshine but by the afternoon tomorrow you guessed it more scattered showers and thunderstorms will form I'm hoping that the showers and thunderstorms tomorrow won't be quite as severe as what we had outside today many severe thunderstorm warnings issued from the National Weather Service with about 20 storm reports coming in throughout the area most of those out across portions of Franklin Campbell and Nelson counties this is about 2:00 and that's when we're start to see the onset of these popcorn Thunders showers I am cautiously optimistic that as we head into the mid evening hours tomorrow say 8 9 10 o'cl we're going to start to see these showers and thunderstorms going by the wayside remember Friday's forecast because Saturday is almost a carbon copy Saturday starts dry Saturday starts with Skies partly sunny but by Saturday afternoon after 1 2:00 scattered showers and thunderstorms become the name of the game again at this point I think we're probably going to have a higher coverage area of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday versus Friday okay however throughout the course of the day tomorrow we still have the chance for a couple of storms to pack a punch Storm Prediction Center has most of us in a level one risk or marginal risk for severe weather with the main threats being wind hail heavy rain thunder and lightning I do believe that the worst of weather though tomorrow will be North of us towards the Greater Detroit area where there's a level two risk for severe weather new drop monitor came out today and it's painting a fairly good picture in areas south that's why that's where we're either okay or abnormally dry but when you go further north it's a different story we're either abnormally dry or in a moderate drought as you go towards the highlands and really not far at all away from us frankly into most of West Virginia they are an extreme drought so again rain is certainly still needed around here with areas north needing it more than areas south temperatures stand for us right now 68 in Hot Springs also in pilas withv Independence 2 low to mid 7s Ron Oak 70 Lynchburg still 79 though in South Boston let's talk tomorrow evening we've got those High School football games first week of the high school football season for many schools and it looks like temperatures at 8 will be in the mid to Upper 70s falling into the low to mid 70s by about 10 we're going to have to dodge some Hit or Miss Thunders showers especially as the games start by the time the games end I think the coverage area of the rain lessons that's again for tomorrow evening for tonight 70 patchy fog is possible with the thunder showers tiering off for tomorrow not as hot 86 but more passing thunder showers are still possible in that 7-day forecast you'll notice temperatures cooling down 88 Saturday 86 Sunday 70s Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday of next week on the unsettled side Friday through Sunday lower chances for rain Labor Day More sun and drier Tuesday and Wednesday of next week
