silence ring [Music] boom there you go that was a trailer for his three daughters arriving in Select theaters September 6 as well as on Netflix on September 20th I'm K Peters nerds world the world joining me to talk about his three daughters is my pal from screen comment film uh film threat and the movie review Mr Anthony Francis how are you sir I'm doing great yourself U good man stumbling I almost stumbled there my that's all right film revieww movie threat doesn't matter it's all I'm everywhere did I say movie threat no you started to well it's it's great as always brother uh to speak with you and uh about this film that kind of for me I don't know about you kind of came out of nowhere uh when it came you know from to us as critics uh I was like all right let's let's check it out I'm always up for new things and different things that intrigue me and uh I was very ly surprised but I'll hold that for the review um what was your uh knowledge of this film before we stepped in are you fan or have you uh seen anything of aelle Jacobs work before who's the writer director on this yeah I had I had to look him up I had not um I didn't know this movie you know I'm pretty up to date with everything in production and I had no idea this movie was coming I'm a fan of all three of the the actors in it and uh yeah I I was I was like wow because I got the Press invite that's how I discovered it and I'm like oh my gosh yes so yeah I didn't know either yeah and uh but I was excited when I read about it yes and then when we finally put our eyes on it uh I don't know about you uh Anthony but W this is a film bring the tissues y'all so let's get a little bit into the plot uh we also talk a little bit about the cast and crew and then Anthony and I will break it down uh with our thoughts um so his three daughters again arriving in Select theaters is September 6th and on Netflix on September 20th is written and directed by Azazel Jacobs uh real quick I had it open a second ago there it is uh you know him from the French exit uh that dropped in 20120 as well as the lovers in 2017 and Doin m in 2013 um I had not seen any of that previous work but uh I'm now curious to go back and take a look at them have you seen any of those uh I forgot I did see the love with Deborah Winger and Tracy lets who is married to Carrie [ __ ] in real life by the way one of the in this film yeah um I saw the lovers I like it um I admit I don't have a bad marriage but I get uncomfortable when I see films dedicated to bad marriages and how the even the best marriages can go south but it's a very good film and I bow at the altar of Deborah Winger so and Tracy Le's frankly it's a very good film very well done and acted and I can't believe Winger and let weren't nominated for Oscars but I don't think enough people saw it yeah and that's unfortunate and I'm hoping we can change that with this film but again discovering for me personally discovering Asel Jacobs through this film makes me want to dive into that film so thank you for that recommendation Anthony uh definitely want to check that out Deborah Winger obviously amazing Tracy lets uh just I I'm enthralled because I as we when we'll get into the review really adore this film um but shout out to aelle Jacobs writer director on this film uh just bang up job there uh the main stars of this film are Natasha Leon Elizabeth Olsen as well as krie [ __ ] uh they played the three sisters uh in this project that is the main focus and the meat of this film uh that's your cast your crew very briefly and as always as I say in these reviews it takes a village shows shout out to the entire team although we highlighted them respect and love and flowers uh to the rest of the cast and crew uh on his three daughters so the gist of the story uh without spoiling this is a very actual simple concept film we have uh three women that uh left Brooklyn New York uh one uh left off all the way out to the West Coast one kind of went out to Long Island the other stayed uh kind of locally with the father um the father is uh has some bit of a terminal disease uh was went into hospice care I believe or that's or is that what this is called Anthony I'm not too good on the the the the words on the on this hospice yeah he's in he's in Hospice yeah okay with the family in the apartment um and it's kind of like the final days if you will uh so that brings the rest of the family into uh this small Brooklyn apartment to kind of be there for their father um as he Transitions and uh we have Elizabeth Olson who is the West Coast mom kind of a free spirit uh if you will she went out there and is now back in town uh we have krie [ __ ] who is kind of like this very strong willed uh by the book devoted mom uh who went out to Long Island but has an estrange relationship with her daughter and then we have kind of like the wild well not exactly Wild free spirit but kind of the stoner daughter but I would say also is about her responsibilities even though she uh uh is a bit of a Stoner likes to bet on sports games but it's probably the most uh similar to the father I would say uh in in a lot of ways um but the three of them are now in this apartment as they you know kind of take care of the father as he Transitions and it's a very kind of a difficult thing because they're all three different personalities and uh we we learn and understand their relationships through the course of this film it's very much like a a play in a lot of ways uh I I think the way was carried out and I actually would love to see this film adapted into a uh the theatrical uh play uh to to have that because there's not a lot of uh locals it's kind of like set in one area we learn about everyone through phone calls and through their conversations and uh until it's final moments um but yeah that's your basic story and your cting your crew um that's the gist of it without spoiling I think I did a good job there at least I hope well did I cover that Anthony anything you want want to add to that before we get into our thoughts no perfect you you covered it perfectly um I mean that's the beginning and end of it uh it's very much a chamber piece and actually you said it would make a good play I agree I had to afterwards look it up I said this has to have been based on a play just the way it's laid out yeah yeah no good job man thank you sir so uh again there's there's the the the cast your crew uh the basic story uh let's get into our thoughts man um yeah it's it's all set in this local and you you feel it through the conversations uh through their calls with uh other families that are on the other end of the line um I I wasn't ready to experience all the feelings that I got uh I felt kind of like a that weird onlooker you know the maybe the Noisy Neighbor Hearing in on everything but uh it just got so intriguing because you got invested into the presentation um and watching them go through it and uh man I was on that roller coaster ride of emotion there's some funny parts in it um but it is a more of a dramatic piece um what were your thoughts as we as you went along for the ride in history daughters uh Anthony yeah um I I I like the way it started out with krie Coon's I can't remember her character name but the oldest sister's uh almost tongue lashing to her other sisters like gonna be and yeah you're right she's very controlling but it's an interesting character she comes in trying to control everything but she has no grip on her own life like you said her daughter the phone calls between them you know are not good and uh she has no control over her uh her marriage um yeah and I think what it Bo boils down to is she has no control she's used to control and she has no control over her dad dying and that set her into this very uh authorative State and uh no I think it's a beautiful character I really liked it and where it goes I won't say things that happen on a couch under a blanket I I I don't take that the wrong way listen but I was like hold on there okay there's an important scene where she's sitting on the couch with a blanket on her leg Age and and the gutters people yeah drama drama folks uh but um yeah I like the way at first it was jarring how we're just you know you have the movie company logo and then boom you're in the middle of a conversation and like wait a second and it's and he holds on every actor like when they're talking there's no cutaways for reaction shots very very few um so I was a little all right are we starting like this yeah yeah yeah let's let's rock rock let's rock all right we kind of give our let's get into our feelings yeah no I meant I meant that was my feeling watching that opening scene like to the director you're just gonna throw me in like this all right I'll catch up you keep going uh and I did and uh I tell you um I I I I don't have sisters I have a stepsister but um I I really think there were moments in this movie where I was comparing in in a positive way like Jacobs got because he wrote the film as well I think he got these three women so perfectly the Dynamics of sisters so perfectly that only people like Woody Allen maybe uh Robert Alman in a few of his movies and um uh if I may sound pretentious ingar Bergman they really get women and and uh and very few male filmmakers can do that and I think he achieves that with these you know if you told me this was written by a woman with two sisters I would completely believe you because it's so real their connection I mean did you find you found this you felt strength in their connection right yeah I wasn't sure if Azazel Jacobs was a man or a woman because the name itself again I was familiar with the work could you know be uh anyone you know I personally feel so yeah to know that it was is a man I'm like wow yeah because these women were I I feel personally yeah were written so tremendously uh good difference and how they mesh together and how they dealt with everything wo I was blown away oh me too and nobody's a cliche you know yes um you you to hear us describe it you think all right Coon's the [ __ ] one Elizabeth olon is the earthy one and Natasha Leon's the the the stoner there's so yeah only on surface level there was so much more to all three of these characters you know yeah that's what I again yeah loved about this film that they were so rich you think again because we're they're all in Natasha's home uh let's let's do the character's name Natasha Leon who's brilliant by the way does a lot of comedic stuff but come on she has dramatic chops and shows it here uh she plays Rachel uh Elizabeth olon plays Christina and Carri [ __ ] plays Katie thank you I couldn't remember that no worries and I know I'm going to forget I'm still GNA say because I love Natasha Leon um but yeah surface level stoner girl s games but she was the one running the show while their sisters were gone and taking care of their father and has this amazing boyfriend let me give out to shout that actor because there's a great moment with Benji who plays uh Rachel's boyfriend played by jovon adepo oh my God I was like let's go finally someone's standing up for this for Natasha's character like right what um yeah just and it threw her sisters off their axis yes yeah yes great yeah just a tremendously well-acted film I wouldn't be surprised I actually said this on uh my coverage for the radio this morning as of this recording uh that I wouldn't be surprised if they get nominated uh for their performances in this it would be tough uh true there's a lot of films out there but just no but I mean it would be tough and I'm not comparing this movie to The Godfather but you know a movie like The Godfather you know you have to to nominate at least five or six people to be fair and they did and that kind of canceled everybody out but yeah who would you nominate from this you would have to pick a stand or nominate all three and that would be three of the five nominees in the category that would be tough but I tell you yes they all deserve nominations we doble with three people I mean the go the Globes can get it you know best Ensemble but Oscars are just you know one at a time uh but yeah no it's an ensemble uh you can count the dad if you will yeah especially with towards the end and then the boyfriend uh and and the the security guard you know minimal pass y'all it's a very minimal cast it is it is uh I think that Leon is the standout Natasha Leon yes cause she because I've loved her since I first saw her and um she's actually a great uh positive story when she was first getting famous uh back in the 90s she got hooked on Heroin and she was homeless for like three or four years like out in the street disappeared on us man yeah and then uh bounced back reshaped her life and now reshaping her career over the past what 10 years she's amazing and she has she's always played there was a time when it was the Natasha Leon character you know like hey guys you know that's that's her thing and she was always kind of funny um but I think this is her best performance and maybe her deepest role yet um she's so good here there's such depth to her character that uh it's just beautiful and there are moments um she's the one that won't go into the room that's not a spoiler she doesn't want to go into the room where her father's dying and there are great she does great things without saying a word when her sisters go in she'll come out of her room and peek peek around or or or listen and she's you can almost hear her saying come on let's just go in let's just go in and she doesn't and uh yeah it's a beautiful performance I really uh it's a moving film and I'm not knocking [ __ ] or olssen they are equally as great but there's something about Leon's character and the dep of her performance that really moved me deeply I'm with you on that yeah I completely agree Leon is is amazing in this um all of them uh though as well you know subtle subtle performances with facial expressions with hand gestures movements I'm glad you said delivering the languages I'm glad you said that Patrick subtle yes subtle yes because if you see hear us talk about it and read about it you'd think oh there's going to be Big scenes of everybody tearing in each other and yelling no not really I mean there's arguments yeah you know there's one where they finally go there yeah you know because as an actor myself you know as as a filmmaker which you know I look at the whole body performance not over the delivery of the the the the text but what you're doing with your facial expressions all of that and they kill it and then when they finally do give us like that frustration that buildup right boy does it land and you feel it and that you know again without spoiling that it it's an outstanding performance by an amazing Ensemble that I wanted to get nominated like they're they just they did a bang of job I was very surprised on how much I love this film and uh again it makes me want to dive into Azazel Jacob's work um but I I think we already knew [ __ ] olssen Leon outstanding actors and they improve here and and now I'm a fan of this writer director I want to see more of that work but uh just Bravo uh can't I can't say enough about this film yeah me neither and uh very quickly you mentioned the director um his directing is patient I mean there's not a lot you can do in a basically an apartment and then the courtyard under the you know in the building but he doesn't there's no flashiness to his Direction he that's how like you said earlier this could totally be a play um he I'd love to see it as a play I'd love to see what could do I'm not saying there's a problem with it but I almost say it would work better as a play you know yeah think because you're there and the emotions are in the room with you and yes but no he just doesn't his camera he knows he wrote you know important characters so he just somebody's talking camera's here you know there's an occasional handan down a hallway or something but nothing flashy and I appreciated that because with this story you don't need it completely agree completely agree and my hopes uh to to also help close us out is that more people see this film uh like to your point earlier you said lovers didn't get the looks that it deserved yeah I sincerely hope that this film gets uh recognition uh the looks it deserves because yeah brilliant acted shot well story's amazing uh with what it's just working with you know it doesn't need it it doesn't have all that flash because it's just set in that area that you're not going to have a ton of you know like you're saying all these other different shots because it's set in this room and with these three women and it's brilliant um so shout out to the again the entire casting crew um man recommend recommend two thums up rbert we can't really talk yeah exactly boom boom boom uh my old my old friend and boss yes uh yeah uh support all we say is support this film um you know try to see it in the theater if not and this this is one where we're not going to yell at somebody for for waiting for streaming because like we said it's a small piece it's you know it's not cinematic but it but it is as far as it's drama so agree yeah go see all right definitely definitely everybody go check it out September 6 in Select theaters September 20th on Netflix uh the movie review is screen comment film threat you're going to have uh a written review up soon uh how
