oh made an attempt for the spinning back fist got her back tken oh she's in deep not under the chin yet more of a crank that's still tight this is so tight oh that's tight this is so tight that's really tight I think she got it oh she got got it that's the biggest upset in the history of the sport right there the I couldn't do it look at me now [Applause] [Music] when Alexa grao faced Valentina shevchenko I knew that she had the skills to make it a fun fight we had seen Alexa Gro grow as a striker and grow as a fighter right here you see Joanne spin Alexa takes her down Gro working off of Woods back oh that's not good though under the chin there it is Alexa Gro by submission in round one but ultimately am I picking against Valentina shevchenko absolutely not Valentina shevchenko was heading into this fight with Alexa Gro having won nine strength looking unbeatable in that weight class and she had done it against UFC opponents that won over 70% of their fights so you knew she had beaten the very best when you looked at the graso side as tough as she was she hadn't faced a level of competition that shft enko has her UFC opponents had only won 59% of their fights so she was definitely stepping up in class against shevchenko who also had that five round experience Mexican Fighters no matter how hard it is no matter what position you are in the fight we are warriors martial arts it's not just a sport it's my life I'm bringing a fire inside I'm ready for guire ready fight beautiful spinning back Fist and left kick to the body I mean we knew that Gro had fun boxing skills that are always exciting to watch but I don't know that we thought it could really face up against the MU thae of Valentina shenko she's throwing spinning back fist wheel kicks yeah o Gro has landed a few punches already oh huge connection BYO all of us kind of realized at that moment Alexa Gro is going to be a little bit more competitive than maybe we assume she would be in the early going oh look at this how about it well timed she was able to have some takedowns R she was able to finish the opening round in spectacular fashion the way Gro ended round one I think most betters and fans were looking at each other like she looked pretty good in this one the fact that Gro was able to win round one forced the blly bonds to change I don't think anybody thought shenko was going to do anything but start to turn this around and that's exactly what she did look at this beautiful take down see that beautiful job by Valentina I think Alexa grao was able to surprise with just how good she was on the feet and the fact that she really kind of forced Valentina shenko into becoming more of a Grappler once she realized why don't we just go the easy route and take this thing to the ground and was able to do that repeatedly we started to see the odds shift far more in shenk's favor as she showed how great she was at grappling all right so the narrative in round two ground control and a couple takedowns for Valentina chevchenko the fight was unfolding exactly as I expected raso's tough she's going to let shevchenko know she's there but Valentina has a few more Tools in her tool belt what timing that was beautiful chef jenko with a good shot there and over time you just expect the cream to rise to the top and then she gets it again Alexa Gro is not defending takedowns at all look at that back take and there's the danger right in fighting a Valentina Chef jao because she's such a great Striker do you not wrestle look at this Alexa Gro looking for gu attempt wow crosso game as hell but a big round for the Champion chevchenko [Music] by the fourth round the batting line reflected Gro had about 10% chance of winning this fight if that are you ready ready ready fight Alexa Gro being you know a little bit outworked in the grappling department but my thought was hey if she can keep this on the feet sprawl and brawl a little bit Lance of her hands she can maybe swing this back she's got to be a little better on the taked down defense she wants a chance but Valentine is setting up a taked down right now and look at that shot again but this time stuff that was better that toughness in Gro had her stick around and as we've seen in the sport if there's even 10 seconds on the clock there's that opportunity to win this fight oh made an attempt for the spinning back fist got her back taken oh Sensational job by Alexa Gro with a minute to go that is getting tight but it's on the chin if she's got the strength she can still smash her still didn't know if she was going to get the Finish we're still talking about the great Valentina chenko here but Alexa Gro was not giving up on this move this is so tight oh that's tight this is so tight that's really tight I think she got it she got it she got it she got the tap she was crowned UFC Champion Alexa crosso is your flyweight Champion by [Applause] submission the hard part about being a longtime Champion is your competitors have been coming up and watching you for years this finish to me was about Alexa Gro capitalizing on her opportunity in the preparation for this fight she knew that Valentina chevchenko enjoyed throwing spinning strikes and so because of that she knew there would be a split second in the middle of this insane chaotic fight where she might have the opportunity to jump on the back unbelievable moment iconic finish in UFC history and new flyweight champion of the world [Music]
