Center operations room monitoring weather models and satellite data there is a storm forming at a rapid Pace expected to produce unprecedented heavy rains and strong winds everyone get ready I said in this morning's weather report this storm could cause severe damage and potentially severe flooding in Southwestern Ontario warnings are broadcast via radio and television emphasizing the importance of emergency preparedness authorities also began to coordinate to prepare for the worst situation [Music] we recommend that everyone prepare clean water food and necessary medicine don't forget to check the drainage system around your home and ensure the safety of your family and [Music] property other journalists also quickly spread Peter's message from articles in major newspapers to posts on social networks meanwhile local authorities began taking preventive measures from reinforcing dikes to arranging emergency rescue [Music] centers the storm began to hit Southwestern Ontario with unimaginable ferocity Heavy Rain poured down like waterfalls strong winds roared through the streets and forests my colleagues and I were broadcasting Live From The Scene providing Vivid images of the raging [Music] Storm roads in Miss Saga are starting to flood heavy rainfall and strong winds are causing flooding in many areas David said as images from the scene appeared on the screen stay indoors away from Windows and do not venture out during this situation outside the scene is a nightmare water Rose rapidly in the streets turning them into fast flowing Rivers Vehicles were stuck in the water and many people could not find a way out in the TV station office Peter continued to provide information to the public helping them understand the situation and follow safety measures [Music] we are witnessing an extremely serious situation in the msaga area I announced via bulletin floods have inundated streets turning them into giant Rivers drivers are trapped in floodwaters and rescue teams are working tirelessly to rescue [Music] them in the media image of the storm's Devastation began to spread videos from local residents showed cars being Swept Away houses flooded and drainage systems overwhelmed everything is happening so fast and Peter knows that this is just the [Music] beginning the lights in the studio flickered as a strong wind blew past causing the entire building to shake the rain hit the window go hard as if it wanted to break through [Music] them but David still stood firm continuing his work the storm continued to batter Southwestern Ontario throughout the night leaving a scene of chaos the next morning what was once a peaceful streak is now filled with mud and debris the electrical system was heavily damaged leaving thousands without power and drinking water became a precious re [Music] resource I watched videos from Coga police chief Darren Rizzy as he and rescue teams navigated flooded streets to help stranded people images of rescue teams working in dangerous conditions reflect their courage and [Music] determination we saw very moving scenes like commented in the news a pedestrian trapped in flood waters was rescued safely thanks to the courage of rescue [Music] teams the rescue operation became even more complicated as the storm continued to cause dangerous conditions I followed rescue teams as they struggled to navigate flooded streets to assist those in distress [Music] current conditions are very difficult I announced well you were IAI announced crews are working non-stop facing Rising water levels and traffic [Music] delays a special rescue took place near dund and queen streets The Pedestrian trapped in flood water was pulled out safely thanks to The Bravery of firefighters Pearson International Airport was hit hard by the storm many flights were delayed or cancelled due to lightning strikes and severe weather conditions passengers face long Journeys and uncertainty as flights are diverted to other [Music] airports Pearson airport is facing chaos I reported the runways were flooded and Crews were forced to stop by operations due to safety concerns water leaks at the terminals of the airport further complicated the situation for travelers power outages across the Toronto region have caused major disruptions Toronto Hydro and Electra reported power outages affecting thousands of customers especially in Northwest areas of the GTA such as Richmond Hill and Markham repair crews are working around the clock to restore power I said oh I Runo however damage caused by strong winds and lightning has delayed the repair [Music] process the storm has been a painful reminder of the increasing frequency of extreme weather events cities like msaga are grappling with the need to upgrade infrastructure to handle flooding and storm damage we are seeing major challenges to the Region's drainage system and infrastructure I said in the news release short periods of heavy rain have tested the limits of even the most robust systems outstanding Community efforts during the storm from Good Samaritans helping stranded drivers to neighbors checking in on each other support from the Community is invaluable stories of Community Support are bright spots in these dark days I reported Emergency Services played a vital role in the immediate response but everyone's Collective efforts helped reduce the worst impact of the storm the region is starting to recover from the storm although there are still many challenges ahead the government urges people to continue to be alert to the possibility of unstable weather in the coming days cleaning and repairs will take time I insisted whoo oh but Community preparedness and resilience have provided a glimmer of hope amid the devastation the storm's Devastation is still evident but the community is moving toward recovery lessons from the storm will help better prepare for future severe weather events the storm left a deep mark on the community but also a lesson in
