to you by EA Sports on ESPN today's game is between the California Golden Bears and the Auburn [Music] Tigers Jordan hair Stadium the sixth largest on campus stadium in the entire country the site for this college football showdown [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] let's go te and Here Come the Tigers for Cal give us a sense of how their offense works what they like to do is eat up small chunks of yardage at a time mostly with short passes or running between the tackles it's an offense predicated on clock management and ball control for Cal they come at you with a super linebacker I think we'll get a chance to see how good he really is against the run because this offense features a great tailb now we head to midfield for the coin toss and remind you that today's going to be down in the end zone for a Touchback now the offense gets ready to take their first crack at it takes it right and brought down right away and they pick up two yards call it gain of two yd that makes it second and eight hands it to the back nice run there as they work the outside a gain of six that'll bring up third and two they'll bring him down at the 33 [Applause] he's changing things [Music] up off the right side doesn't get much good tackle on the rain y that brings up second [Applause] and makes a catch and he's got nowhere to go C no that'll bring up third and eight he may have changed things up here Rose intercept no he dropped it that's going to bring up fourth down the offense really had nowhere to go on that one the play was very well defended now the incompletion will force the fourth down in a punt and this one is a Beauty oh man did he take a hit well that was a great Punt and there was even better coverage on the return got it and brought down immediately three maybe four yds on the pass he took what the defense gave him that time which is okay it keeps the yards to go a little bit more manageable with a pitch and he's taken down behind the line did you see how that big defensive line got such a good push on that play that's exactly why they were able to stop him for a loss from their own 21 yd line third down [Applause] they go with the Run he did not get to the first down marker you know the offensive play calling wasn't clicking on that last drive and their execution was lacking fourth down and they're ready to pump this one [Applause] away he really got a hold of that one he makes it out to maybe the 36 yd line the offense is looking to be a little bit more successful with this drive as they had to punt the ball away the last time they had it passes to the wide out and he can't pull it in number9 second down 10 yds to go B on their own [Applause] 36 dson will complete to the halfback over the middle they gained five yards there you don't have to go deep every play to be successful they got five yards on the play and that's always a good [Applause] game back to pass stays in B be nice catch good job there by the receiver look the ball inng and is sure he had possession that's the right way to catch a pass [Music] drops back on first down he lets it go oh he had the pick and he dropped it and I don't know if this quarterback misre the defense or just made a poor decision but that wasn't a pass he should have thrown it goes straight to the back breaks one gets to about the 37 yd line carrier that's a g of three on the play that'll bring up third and eight he may have changed things up [Applause] here and they got to him before he can get back to the line that's not going to keep the drive going good solid defense there to force him into a fourth down [Applause] situation kicks up no good he hooked it right so the kicker can't make the field goal there and this defense comes away with a small victory so we'll change possession with a score Auburn nothing California nothing they'll go to work at the 42 yd line good awareness defensively that time by the linebacker not only that but he saw he also made a very athletic move to get to the [Applause] ball catches it and he's tackled right around the 48 yd line that was a really nice play on the ball by the receiver for a substantial gain and a first down [Applause] [Music] [Applause] first and [Applause] 10 looks to pass caught out of the open he's tackled at the 25 yd line The Defenders are really going to have to get their heads into this game that was a big play and on first down Noel [Applause] first and [Applause] 10 nice run and he's brought down they got four yds on that one that's good for aain of Y from the 21 yd line it's second down run the middle and nothing there so they end up with a loss after calling the draw he started out rushing the passer then just got lucky and ran right into the running back on the [Applause] draw got hit and still completed it what a relief it is for a back to know that he's got a receiver like this who can step up when he needs him on third down from the seven yd line first down let's see if their play calling changes now that they're in the red zone for the first time hand off and he's met in the back field that was just a case of one L dominating another and making the play second this play is number eight on the drive second [Applause] [Music] [Applause] down they'll bring him down and about the three yd a seven yd gain that time from the playaction pass completion the defense wasn't pulled too much by the play action but it gave the quarterback just enough of a cushion to find his [Applause] receiver third down here they go only two yards from per talk about home field [Applause] advantage he ignores the footsteps and makes the catch loss of a yard really they just had nowhere to go after the Ki it's Fourth Down they'll line this up and it'll be about a 21 [Music] Y and he got it and you got to think they're pretty happy with holding him to a field right there [Music] California ready to kick this one off nice kick plenty of [Music] [Applause] [Music] distance he makes it to the 18 yd line and here we go with the offense ready to get things going again number two comes in quarterback option and he's taken down right around the 20 that's a gain of two on the play that makes it second and eight they're changing the [Applause] play run left side he's GBL up in the back field you keep gaining negative yards and you put yourself in a position of having to make bigger and bigger plays puts a lot of pressure on that quarterback drops back to pass passes to the wide out and he can't pull it in and that'll bring up a punting situation great hold by the defense they were expecting the pass play and they defended it very [Applause] well oh excellent punt he makes it out to maybe the 46 yd line last Drive resulted in a field goal and the offense will come back out looking to do one better drops back on first down drops it the pass Falls incomplete number one was the intended so it's second and 10 B on their own 46 makes a catch and he's got nowhere to go I'm not sure I agree with this offensive scheme I mean they made the completion sure but for such short yardage maybe they're trying to L the defense asleep with their short passing game and then go for the big strike later during the drive third down and they need to get inside the 44 [Applause] first down grab by the receiver he's taken down at the 37 yd Lun this passing game can be very effective if you don't get enough pressure on theback they use their personnel well and can be very tough to [Music] defend first and 10 ball on the 37 California holds a field goal lead run right hit in the backfield that was well defended by this defense the offensive line is so concerned with their penetrating abilities that these linebackers are able to roam free and make plays like that give to the tail back up the middle for a nice gain so the old draw play gets him a good seven yds so we're looking at another 30 down [Applause] here he drops back throws a laser across the middle most of the time zone coverage will take away the outout not that time first [Applause] [Music] from the 15 yd line first down the kicker got him three points in that last Red Zone visit let's see if they can come away with six this time little hand off brought down around the seven yd line an 8yd gain y that makes it second and [Applause] two it's second down two to go and this is the eighth play of the Drive California is up by [Applause] three he just floated that one up there Kirk well the ball hung up there a little bit quarterback has to be careful throwing that type of pass because they're vulnerable to interceptions you almost saw it right [Applause] there playaction throws and it's knocked away smart play being ready for the pass and swatting it away it and it's the offense that takes the field on fourth [Applause] down and they don't get the first so they turn over on downs and that's a big boost for this defense in a close game like this one it's big plays like this that can be the deciding factor [Music] little hand off oh he got nailed on that one he picked up around three yds on the draw play that'll make it second they're changing the play he drops back down the sideline and he's tackled at the 46 that makes the [Applause] first he's changing things up complete brought down nothing do it makes the reception gain of three on the play that'll make it second and seven drops back to pass he let that one go before the defense got to him and it fell incomplete sometimes if you can safely get rid of the ball it's your best [Applause] option he goes out of bounds around the 39 yd line makes the catch but just not enough for the first yeah they're going to come up a little bit short here nice job by the defense of preventing this completion from turning into a first down that's a tough break there for the kicker so our count is still California three Auburn nothing the offense will start at the 39 it's first and 10 California is up a field goal here's a run tackle at the 41 yd line two yd pickup came with a good Blitz from the edge here and disrupted the blocking scheme of this run here's the give and he's taken down the 48 yd line did you see how much space there was for that tail back up front you better be thinking his offensive lineman for that [Music] first and 10 ball on the [Applause] 48 pulls it in and he's in the open field he's taken down the 37 yd line he's quickly reached 100 yd through the air still a long game and I'm sure this defense is going to adjust at his passing attack because right now the offense is seemingly moving the ball at will I don't hear you first and 10 ball on the 37 yd line he lets it Fly breaks one and score and they had a tough time defending that one one of the things with this defense is you leave yourself B and B one-on-one coverage great throw by the quarterback and great speed by the receiver and the secondary didn't quite seem alert enough to defend that [Music] pass makes the Pat and now we're going to take a look at the drive summary California get set to kick this one [Music] away he's to the 10 and he makes it out to about the 27 yd line quarterback leads the offense back out onto the field as we get set to reserve play feeds it to the back tackle made right around the 30 three yds there on the play that'll make it here's the option they'll bring him down around the 28 yd line the defense was able to get really good penetration and drop him short of the line of scrimmage the quarterback in the gun empty backfield five wide receivers in the formation he got hit hard it looked like they C the quarterback by surprise well that's a great call by the defensive coordinator they send him off the corner and he just uses his speed to get the [Applause] sack after the sack it's now fourth and long he really got a hold of that one tackle made at the 33 yd line not a great return there boy he got a hold of that ball this punter has a big time leg and you can see that when he gets a hold of a ball like that he really [Applause] goes back to pass caught and up for the first down that's a big gain there for the offense and all that's doing he's giv this quarterback more and more confidence Mak it first and first down 10 yds to go ball in the [Applause] 48 they'll give it off here runs it right nice pick up a gain of six for gain of six y second down three yds to go B on the 46 yd [Applause] line gives it up the gut and he carries the ball for a nice game they should continue to run the ball if they keep this up the defense will wear down very quickly [Applause] first and 10 ball on the 39 yd line takes a hand off tackled for a l it's never good for a back's confidence to get tackled for a loss if this guy knows that he's got to just keep at it the holes will start to open [Music] up gets the ball here and brought down to the Back Field you can't teach Instinct the ability to know where a play is going is something this safety has that was a terrific [Applause] effort third down now they need to get it to the [Applause] 29 gets a snap and here comes the defense tackle around the 28 yd line they blit the corner that time and created a hole in the coverage but that's the risk you take when you leave a receiver to rush the passer first down 10 to [Applause] go finds his man first down this guy just continues to impress me every time time I watch this team play he seems to come up with big [Music] plays and he converts the extra point that score leads us to our Drive summary [Music] everyone's all lined up and ready for the [Applause] kickoff taken from the 3 yd line he makes it out to maybe the 16 yd line you know they'd like to do something a little more than they did on their last drive when they had to putt the ball away goes R picked off to the 20 he's got an opening touchdown Golden Bears depending on what team you're rooting for here you're either really excited or you're ready to hit the reset button well I hope these guys aren't ready to throw in the tow just yet we've got over three quarters of football yet to play [Music] and he adds the extra [Music] point California is lining up to kick this one off and he got all of this one great kick gets out to about the 21 let's see if he can shake off that pick that he toss last time and we'll see how aggressive this defense is when they come back out I wouldn't be surprised if they kept up the pressure to try to Cluster this quarterback some back to pass he passes it SW it away this guy is mostly used to stop to run but here he showed that he's not too bad against the pass either [Applause] caught out of the open he's taken down right around the 28 yd line they get a good seven yards on that one hey they picked up a nice gain of seven yards on that play great pass he's changing things [Applause] up and the snap goes to the back they tackle him there and he's still going to be short and they'll still be a little short on the first down line well they get some positive yards but this defensive line really busted through and broke that play up they'll bring him down at the 34 yd line the offense will take the field and they've been moving the ball very well on their last couple of [Applause] drives Rose and he's right there to knock it away he showed you some of his natural athletic ability following the play and making a really quick stab to knock away the pass he's looking to pass and the safety with the interception inside the 30 to the 10 he's all the way home touchdown so a great play by the defender to give his team six points that was a very good play and that was certainly help build his team's [Applause] [Music] [Applause] momentum so the offense will stay on the field and attempt the two-point [Music] conversion fires incomplete knocked away so the two-point conversion is no good here they try to put the ball in the air Unfortunately they were unable to convert he kicks it off and he got all of that one he's taken down at the 15 you know the offense will be looking to do better this time out he can't dwell on the interception there's still a whole lot of football to be played today they'll take over at the 15yd line first and 10 and it's knocked away that was a nice play anything you can do without being penalized to prevent the offense from moving forward is always a [Applause] plus fires quickly and he's got his man and they make the stop around the 17 yd line the man defense proves to be too tough against the screen that was an excellent job by the Defenders they fought off their blocks and found the ball before the play had a chance to develop it's already started to get out of hand at the end of the first our score is the Golden Bears 24 the Tigers six from their own 17 yd line third down this sellout crowd is really making a difference now as these guys can't even call the play tackle made at the 24 he's up to 200 yd passing the quarterback's playing well but let's not forget about the pass protection the hog M's up front for giving him plenty of time to make good throws they get this one off and it's a beauty tackle made at the 41 nice yardage on the run back they'll take over at the 41 yd line first down 10 yds to go makes the grab and he's got the first tackled right around the 36 yd line he is such a good Target really anywhere on the field they'd like to get him the ball in short to medium range [Music] situations he's got to throw it in a hurry he launches one for the End Zone it's knock away incomplete second down 10 to go ball on the 36 yd line that makes [Applause] it hand off to the left they'll bring him down around the 34 yd line a yard maybe two on the carry this linebacker's had a couple years of experience and he's really solidified himself as a reliable tackler as you can see from that last stop there's a strike complete he's down they get four yards on that pass play they'll call on the field goal unit here for this long field goal attempts the field goal attempt will be about a 47 y added right down the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] middle robber the kick [Music] [Applause] he makes it out to maybe the 20 yd line the defense really stepped up to force that three and out on the last [Applause] drive straight run nothing going on there two yd pickup the defense brought pressure up front and totally overwhelmed on the offensive line that one was doomed from the start hand off and he's met immediately and the halfbacks got nowhere to go here's third and eight ball the [Applause] 22 first down gr was good job by the quarterback with recognizing the Blitz and getting the ball out of his hands for a first down but at the same time I'd like the call from the defensive coordinator he Blitz not one but both cornerbacks you got to love that aggressive [Applause] call Fires out quickly incomplete these guys just don't seem to be on the same page and they're going to have to be if they expect to win this game caught open field at the 40 and he's taken down at the 27 yd line good looking play there I think they did a great job up front here allowing the quarterback enough time to look down field and spot the open man all all right now it's first and 10 after the big pass [Applause] play he's looking to pass and he's going to come up with a sack The Defenders played the snap count perfectly found the path into the back field didn't let the quarterback get away defense looking for another sack in this second down long [Applause] situation the L hand off and he's not going to get back to the line good job by the defense and overpower the offensive line and Dr the back for a [Applause] loss he heaves it deep wow I thought he was going to squeeze that pass in for six points but the defensive back does a nice job to reach out and bat it away it has the distance and it's good but here's the drive summary to recap what just happened [Music] and it looks like they're ready for the kick off and this is just a moving [Music] [Applause] kick he makes it out to maybe the 16 yd line the offense goes back out onto the field after picking up a field goal on their last Drive yeah there was no lack of offense on that last Drive takes it right and he can't get back to the line of scrimmage and that run got Stu yeah you're right the defense definitely won the battle with the line of scrimmage there from their own 12 yd line Second [Applause] down they snap it to the back he's taken down at the 13 on the r that's a gain of one on the play that'll make it third and [Applause] 13 he drops back throws out and through his hands can't ask for much more than a three and out great job defense fourth down booming kick he's tackled at the 40 yd line the defense was able to keep them out of the End Zone on their last possession but the offense did pick up [Applause] three looks to pass Ros under her pressure and picked off that go made right around the 42 yd line there you go if you're going to come back in this game it's going to start with one play maybe that pick is what turns things around for first and 10 B in the 42 yd [Music] [Applause] line it goes straight to the back he makes it to the 42 yd line nothing going on that one no gain that makes it second and 10 they come out in a five wide set he may have changed things up here incomplete broken up that's the kind of field Vision you want out of your linebackers they have to play well in coverage and they have to be able to break up pass plays with an injury update here's Aaron Andrews thanks Brad the trainers were able have a look at that injured shoulder and I just watched them pop it back into place it is bad enough that you will not be thanks for the report EA could be interesting now to see how this team adjusts with him out the rest of the game great effort by the wide receiver and not to take anything away from the quarterback the wide receiver made this play [Music] [Applause] [Music] and he TS on the extra point so we take a moment here let's check out the drive [Applause] C and it looks like they're ready for the [Music] [Applause] kickoff he makes it out to maybe the 20 yd line the offense comes out to start this drive and they're hoping for a better result as they threw a pick on their last possession I look for the offense to come out with the same game plan as before you don't make changes after one play pulls down the catch and he's got room here and down he goes around the 42 yd line another catch and he's up to 100 yds now if you were to ask this defense who wants to cover this guy I mention nobody's going to raise their hand cuz this receiver is embarrassing Miss in [Applause] them first down 10 yds to go ball on the 42 yd [Applause] line gets it he's in space he's tackled at about the 47 yd line nice job of picking up the Mike linebacker Blitz and hitting his man for the first down [Applause] [Music] first and 10 ball in the 47 complete brought down nothing doing that pass play gets roughly three yds once the wide receiver made the catch he just kind of ran out of real estate there was nowhere for him to go from the 44 yd line it's second down looks over the middle and it's picked off and just a great interception by the quarterback well that's big time he made a great read on the quarterback and got in there for the pick from their own 26 yd line first [Music] down here's the handoff and he's taken down for a loss a good tackling safety is key for any defense and if they can diagnose a play like this guy can he can be a real [Applause] Menace takes a hand off inside and stopped immediately almost eak out a yard on that one they come out in a five wide set he's changing things up back to pass and they got him in a hurry as a quarterback you have to be aware of the pass run that makes it [Applause] [Music] and after the sack it's now fourth and long oh excellent [Applause] punt he makes it out to maybe the 46 yd line the offense will take the field hoping for a better result than their last drive one general rule in any game is to hold on to the ball if you're in the negative in the turnover Department your chances of winning decrease exponentially long ball right side caught out out of bounds incomplete he L his wide receiver too far to the outside yeah he just had to pull the string a little bit more there he drops back brought down around the 30 yd line just a phenomenal first half for the passing game he's a mass 300 yds well he's been consistent he's been on Target and his guys have been making great catches this is the kind of half you dream about as a quarterback first down 10 to [Music] go hand off and he's met immediately that'll be a two- yd gain second and eight ball on the 28 yd line passes to the wide out and he can't pull it in that is texbook pass defense as soon as the ball hit the receiver's hands he was all over third down and they need to get it down to the 20 [Applause] back to pass he's under pressure and he can't get away from the pressure they showed some real tenacity not giving up on that play they just kept coming and finally able to bring him down for a loss so the kicker comes out he'll try to put three points on the board the kick is away it's long enough no good he pushed it to the right well no luck for the kicker as he misses his opportunity to tack three points on the board and our score California 27 Auburn 16 they'll set up shot at the 30yd line first down 10 to [Applause] [Music] [Applause] go D snap to the back and he's tackle after positive yardage the carry that's a gain of seven on the play that'll bring up second and three they'll bring him down the 37 yd line on the right no gain that'll bring up 32 he's changing things up and the snap goes to the back well it's usually a good idea putting the ball in the hands of your halfback but only when it stays there questionable call but at least they're mixing up their offense a bit and trying to keep the defense on their [Applause] toes and this one is a beauty tackle at the 16 yd line and that was excellent punt I agree Brad that was very well defended drops back on first down what concentration and they tackle it at the 43 that's just a great call by the coordinator there going to the air on first down that makes it first [Music] [Applause] it's first and 10 ball on the [Applause] 43 he gets rid of it and it's going the other way a well Ed interception there they're still down by a couple of scores but the turnover certainly helps their chances if they score on this drive right back in the [Music] game we've got a first and 10 B on the 39 yd line empty Back Field quarterback in the gun five wide receivers looks to pass short pass middle of the field he's taken down at the 47 not a bad little play there yeah it's a nice job by the quarterback reading the coverage and delivering a very catchable ball and allowing his receiver to come up with a nice [Applause] gain little hand off and he's tackled at the 48 on the r that's good for a gain of one y that'll bring up third and two they're calling in Audible pulls it in and that's a first down and they make the stop around the 39 yd [Music] line off the right side doesn't get much good tack of the Run gain of two on the play that makes it second and eight he may have changed things up here gets the ball here and brought down in the back field even though they lost yards they shouldn't get away from the ground game keep pounding it away it keeps the defense honest and it creates opportunities in the passing [Applause] game he drops back he throws left HS it in as he P down the house [Music] they're calling an [Music] audible and they get him in the back field for a loss it was a defensive lineman that got a hold of him there you're not going to break many tackles when this guy gets his hands on you they're changing the play flags are all over the place and they'll blow it dead encroach still second down so they have a second and five following the [Applause] penalty good outside run there about four yards on that play gain of four y that'll make it third and one [Applause] here's option right [Applause] side wow another bounce goes their way this one has all the makings of a route [Applause] from their own 18 yd line it's first down he looks to throw on first down they'll bring him down the 27 yd line that int puts him in a position to make this again and they really needed that that's a huge boost to morale [Music] from the 27 yd line first [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] down they go to the ground game runs it left for a decent game that's a seven yd gain g seven on the play that'll make it second and four they're changing the [Applause] Play Hands it to the back runs outside for a nice game and it's always a plus if you're able to pick up the first down with the running game this offense has really stalled on their last two trips to the Red Zone option right side he tackles him for a loss that's not what you hope for from your running game you're looking for some solid North and South progress you never want to give the defense a play like that to build their confidence [Applause] he's taken down at the 10 yd line about a seven yd pickup that time on the pass at the 10 yd line that makes it [Applause] 37 throws incomplete they got a hand on it fantastic individual effort right there it looked like there was some space for the pass but the defender got enough of a hand on it to prevent the touchdown this should be an easy field [Applause] goal and he got it even though they gave up the field goal here that defense is feeling pretty good about themselves right now it could have just as easily been a touchdown [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Auburn lines up for the kickoff and this is just a booming kick gets out to about the 21 and now a slight break in the action as the offense comes out onto the field for their next possession California up by eight hands it to the back nice run to the left there they got four yards on that one from their own 25 yd line Second down California holds an eight-point advantage he drops back hit as he thre and he completes it tackle made right around Midfield and that's the way you're supposed to play pitch and cick absolutely you know this wide receiver is a Difference Maker he's one of those players that has a chance to go the distance every time you get him the ball it's first and [Applause] 10 California is up by eight it looked like the quarterback thought he had an open receiver there but I don't think he saw the linebacker that makes it second and 10 good outside run there they pick up a good six yards there on the that'll bring up third and four they're about four yards away here on third [Applause] down steps up at the 43 nowhere to go on that playaction pass completion it's a nice catch by the junior wide receiver but an even better effort by the defense to keep him from going [Music] anywhere and it's good and here's our Drive [Music] [Music] sum California KCK this one off he just drills this [Music] one get it out to maybe the 19 yd line just about ready to first play of this drive they were able to pick up a field goal on their last possession the quarterback in the gun empty backfield five wide receivers in the formation he's hit and taken down the offense calls a timeout they come out on an empty Back Field and they make the stop at the 38 the reception that makes it first and 10 he's looking for his man and it's picked off and he's tackled at the 46 yd line you wonder if those were just two poor throws or if this defense already has his number we've got a first and 10 ball on the 46 [Applause] incomplete and that wasn't the greatest pass in the world well I don't know how anybody can throw a great pass while getting drilled like that one's right hit hard he got what he could and it wasn't much third down now and they need to get it down to the 36 [Applause] six drops back to pass and he's tackled right away the offense calls a [Music] [Applause] timeout fires across the middle tackle right around the 20 you can tell he's got a lot of faith in his wide receivers even when he's a little bit of Target they can pull it in and make something happen hands off up the middle and stoed you see how the defense just swarm to the ball carrier that was fantastic [Applause] Pursuit he drops back and this one's broken up nice play by the defense to bring up fourth down the defender made a solid effort to get to the ball there nice stop and it hits the upright no good well that's just unlucky it looked pretty good from here still our score California 30 Auburn 19 they'll set up shop at the 22 first down 10 yds to go let's go defense back to pass and they got him in a hurry the blitz was the call but the D lineman was the one who made his way to the quarterback and he showed great quickness getting off the line into the back field this guy can move for a big [Applause] fella second down 14 coming up here ball on their own [Applause] 17 we've seen quite a bit of offense here as we reach halftime our score is California 30 Auburn 19 number Auber is set to kick this ball off to start the second half and this is just a booming kick he makes it out to maybe the 20 ydd line so before the offense hits the field a very good game and he makes it look easy he's up to 400 yds anytime you pass for 400 yds in a game you're making good reads and delivering the ball where it's got to be he's having a solid game out there [Applause] gets it out to the wide out and he's got the first good job by the offensive line to pick up the linebacker on the blitz that gave the quarterback enough time to find his man for a nice [Music] game first and 10 ball on the 36 yd line [Applause] and they get nice yardage on that run they'll get six yards a the they're about four yds away here on second [Applause] down drops back to pass caught and this is going to be a first down brought down to the open field good pitch and catch there on second down yep it was good enough to get him a first down that's just a nice play [Music] from the 38 yd line first down [Applause] he'll get it again and down he goes around the 26 yd line can you see how much space there was for that tail back up front he better be taking his letting it Fly today and his receivers are making plays that is a great [Music] touchdown and he hits the Pat and now we take a look at the drive [Music] summary they line up to kick this one away he really got a hold of that [Music] kick get out to about the 21 that's set to start things up again they'll set up shot at the 21 it's first and 10 he gets hit Out of Bounds at the 25 yd line call it a the [Applause] play and they make the stop right around the 28 yd line that's going to bring up fourth down just a great job by the defense these guys are disguising their defense so well that they're confusing the quarter back in the offensive line they get this one off and it's a beauty he makes it to the 35 yd line I was really impressed with their last series they came out with a focus on the passing game and the offense got the job done we'll see if they have the same strategy [Applause] here makes the grab pass the marker he faked out everybody in the stadium when you can sell the run five to go ball on the 41 yd line all right brought down the 25 yd line he's at a special game that catch puts him over 200 yd and the defense has even shifted to secondary over to try to provide a little more help just has it mattered this receiver is still having his way with the defense [Applause] tries to thread the needle and it's not going to work just a great job encom by this linebacker he does a good job of reading the quarterback's eyes and was able to come up with the interception [Music] [Applause] from their own 16 ydd line first [Music] down throws incomplete that's what the defensive back coach likes to see his kids reacting when the ball's in the air then making the play [Applause] hand off and he's met in the back field I think he made a late read of the defense there quarterback needs to be much more decisive with his option Le third down and 14 to go ball on the 12 caught and he's hit immediately and the defense jumped all over that one no chance to pick up the first down [Applause] there an interception cut this offense last Drive short so I think they're going to be looking for a little more success right [Applause] here goes left and tackled in a hurry the defense was playing run all the way right there and it paid off for him [Applause] and he's tackled to the 18 yd line this has been a very impressive show he's got 500 yd passing well 500 yard is something you can only dream about as a kid but to do it in a college football game wow from the 18 yd line first down they got six the last time they were inside the 20 let's see what they do here he gets another carry runs it right nice pickup a 5yd pickup by the halfback on the misdirection it's second down five to [Applause] go they go with the run and he's taken down behind the line but you can really mess with an offensive game plan if you can take away their AB to [Music] run we've got third and eight B on the 16 yd [Applause] [Music] [Applause] line throws looking for six and he got it touchdown that throw for six gives him four touchdowns what we have right now is a quarterback who's very comfortable with his offense he believes in this system and the coaches and players believe in you couldn't ask for a better situation when you've got guys going up and making catches like that it makes this quarterback's job much [Music] easier he makes the Pat and now we're going to take a look at the drive summary [Music] California lines up for the [Music] kickoff taken from the three- yard line and he just got stood up right there the last time this offense had the ball it was three and out [Music] [Applause] here they go on the draw and they'll lose yards never really had a shot they were on him almost as soon as he took the hand [Applause] off option left side he's taken down at the 15 you know these backwards plays can have a psychological impact it can damage A team's confidence if it keeps [Applause] happening from their own 15 yd line it's third down they'll line up with five wide receivers back to pass well the defense stood tall there well the defense did what they had to do to get three and out and now get the offense back on the field fourth down looks like they're going to punt it away here oh excellent Punt and he makes it out to about the 47 yd line the offense ready for the first play of this drive they moved the ball extremely well on their last possession on their way to the end zone you can bet this defense made some adjustments on the sideline though I don't know if they can stop the passing attack but they need to at least be able to slow it down just a yard there if it's any consolation he did pick up some positive yards but I doubt that's enough to make him forget the hit that he just took he's got his man across the middle and they tackle him at the 10 well I'll tell you something confidence can easily turn into Cockiness which is not always going to serve a quarterback very well he got away with it that time but he needs to be much more careful I do not believe first down they'll line up on the 10 their last trip down here was a success let's see if this one will result in another touchdown did you see how quickly he closed on the ball and broke up that pass that's what you look for in a safety makes it second and 10 [Applause] it goes straight to the back touchdown California nice run there and this should really help prove to themselves that they can control the clock with the ground [Music] game he splits the uprights with the extra point s a glance at the drive [Music] so everyone's all lined up and ready to kick [Music] off he'll return it from the three he makes it out maybe to the 26 yd line well you know the offense would like to generate more than they did on their last possession [Applause] throws incomplete pass is incomplete number9 the from their own 26 yd line Second down the half back with a carry tackled for a loss number 17 makes the tackle no gain that brings up third and 10 he may have changed things up here [Applause] and he's going to be sacked for a loss you can credit some of that to the Blitz the offensive line just wasn't able to handle all the pressure on that [Applause] play after the sack it's now fourth and long [Applause] it's away and it's a booming punt brought down at the 41 they punched it in for six on the last series can they do it again as long as this quarterback has time to throw and you can guarantee that he'll find the open [Applause] man makes a catch and he's got nowhere to go couple of yards at most on that pass y that makes it second and [Applause] eight they keep it on the ground with a tail back maybe a yard on the Run by the tailb boy the senior linebacker experience really showed on that one he sniffed it out perfectly and made the tackle California in [Applause] control drops back to pass scrambling around caught and this is going to be a first down brought down at the 34 that's the kind of rangy flanker every quarterback wants to be thrown to he did well to make sure he had enough yardage to pick up the first down first and 10 and they make the stop at about the 25 yd line so they pick up quite a few yards on that play Kirk well that was an excellent route and he did a great job of holding on to the [Applause] football it's second down one to go ball in the 25 California with a big advantage and he might want it all here and does it's broken up great play In The End Zone by the quarterback man oh man this guy is some kind of athlete he's a real playmaker out there on [Applause] D quick throw out to the receiver and he will score and that's his fifth touchdown throw he's gotten great blocking up front the entire game and his receivers are making plays so I know just give credit to the quarterback with this entire offense for getting things done talk about a great catch when you got Playmakers who can make catches like that it can really make a good quarterback [Music] great and he converts the extra point that score leads us to our Drive summary look like there ready for the kick excellent [Music] kick that was a great hit he wasn't getting away from that one you know they'd like to do something a little more than they did on their last drive when they had to putt the ball [Applause] away they'll go to work at the 19 it's first and 10 [Applause] and the snap goes to the back and he is drilled at the 22 a pickup of about three well those are the kind of hits that'll take some miles off a ball carrier he's changing things [Applause] up straight run nothing going on there on the T gain of three on the play that'll make it third and [Applause] five lets it Fly and that one's incomplete that one sailed on him he wanted his receiver but I think that may have slipped out of his hands fourth down and this one is a beauty oh man he took him down hard time once again for this offense to come back out and start another [Applause] Drive here's a run takes it up the middle for a nice run so the draw to the halfback picks up four it's second down seven to go ball on the 38 California up by a bunch [Applause] setting up the play action and he's immediately tackle a little bit too much air under that throw but this receiver has the bounce you need to bring in those High passing first and 10 California up by a big margin they'll keep it on the ground again nice run there around five yds on the delayed hand off it's second and six ball on the 38 yd line California is winning big he drops back throws it watch out oh almost had a pick well the quarterback's breathing a huge side relief because he got away with throwing what should have been an [Applause] interception looking to throw throws right intercepted nice interception too bad they weren't playing like this to start today their defense took a little too long to get into this football game [Music] first down 10 to go wall in the 46 looking right intercepted he's got some blockers to the 20 to the 10 touchdown California how about the play by the defender there was a great interception and an even better effort to bring the ball back for a [Music] touchdown he makes the [Music] pat looks like they're ready for the kick and he got all of this one great kick this one's going to be done to the end zone for a Touchback so the offense will come back out out of the field hoping for a little better result than that last pick six this quarterback needs to be a little bit more careful because this defense is excellent on capitalizing off the mistakes give to the tail back and he's met the back field on did you see how quickly he was able to get into the back field and make that tackle not many guys that big can move that fast [Applause] caught and he's hit immediately that's a three- yard pickup not a whole lot of yards there for the wide receiver but at least a short gain is better than an [Applause] incompletion he drops back going right intercepted and down he goes the 27 yd that's now four extra possessions they've given their own offense with these pcks think about that that's a formula that'll win me a lot of ball [Music] game we' got a first and 10 B on the 27 one yd line what a pretty pass play this is just a simple playaction pass the defense here bit on the fake just enough allowing the quarterback to find an open Target the result is a big Gainer first and goal from the one expect to see something straight up the middle so their last Red Zone visit resulted in a touchdown let's see if the defense can hold them this time it goes straight to the back receptions not too bad for one game you know the reason this guy is having a lot of success is because of this secondary they've been playing it very soft out there all game [Music] long we've got a bounds he caught it but failed to get that one necessary foot in that's an outstanding catch and he just missed making a big time play third down now they need to get it to the [Applause] 29 they'll bring him down around the 24 yd line and a nice pick up there I'll tell you what the defense gambled a bit here and came with the blits and a quarterback showed tremendous po by making a good read and bring bring him down at the 22 yd line he was never able to get ahead of Steam on that carry that'll make it third and 13 number two comes in at quarterback catches it he's immediately tackled behind football he's looking to pass throws a bullet over the middle that's still no excuse for this defense to just shut down I mean you would think that they would work even harder to stop these guys being by the senior at backer that won't be the last time today we'll be talking about this young man and he carries the ball for a nice gain and a pickup of about seven y so it's third down and they're just inches away from picking up the first [Applause] down nice run to the outside they keep it on the ground and get the first down give credit to the big boys up front they did an excellent job of allowing the back to get nice yardage there first down 10 to go ball on the 36 yd line that was a heads up play by the corner but it would have never happened if the receiver would have come back to the ball instead of waiting for it to fall into his [Applause] lap catches it and he's looking for more down at the 30 yd line it really wasn't badly played by the defense but sometimes a good throw lose four there that is a loss of four yd that makes it second and 14 second down 14 coming up here ball on the 39 here's the pass broken up this is a well prepared defense they know where to be and they know what their opponent likes to do and they play tight coverage as [Applause] well got the corner excellent open field tackle wow a long gain but still not enough for the first well the offense hurt themselves by digging themselves into a hole on first and second down so the defense didn't really have to put too much thought thought in how to defend on that third down so they're going to go tell you something this guy has got to do a better job of protecting the football the next time he gets it they come out in a five wide set going long doesn't get there there was just no way anybody wide receivers split out the quarterback in the [Applause] gun throws it and it's tipped away alert read on that play he didn't have too much time to react to that number two comes in at quarterback bit play here and they're not going to get it great stop couldn't get that additional yard he needed to keep the drive moving no he was trying to muscle his way past those big guys but they stood
