We are beginning tonight in Orangeburg where it was a deadly weekend on the road after five people died in three separate car crashes. Yesterday, one of those crashes took the lives of two miners who were riding in a TV. Our Shannon Taylor spoke with highway patrol about road safety. Of course, four wheelers are not permitted on the roadways because they don't have insurance or registration. Highway patrol says a tractor trailer stuck in a TV, four wheeler on highway 601 yesterday in Orangeburg, two miners were killed in that collision. A representative with the SC highway patrol says that driving a TV. S on the road is illegal. A TV. S are illegal um, on the roadways because it's designed for off road use. Now, if you're riding the A TV, on private property, which means, you know, like, um, um, say like their driveway or whatever the case may be and then that's fine. This tragedy was just one of three fatal collisions in Orangeburg County on Saturday. I'm not saying that it's rare to see that many fatalities. Um, you know, on the roadways because just like a couple of months ago, I mean, we had, we were, I think a collision where one person died and that was that Thursday and then the next week, Tuesday, I mean, we work one where four people died. Adding that while the investigation is ongoing, drivers are to use caution when driving at all times. Always ask people to, you know, drive the posted speed limit where there's 55. So drive 55 always wear your seat belt. Um, you know, make sure that if you have kids in the vehicle, make sure they are in the proper, uh, child seat as well. Shannon Taylor News 19 WLTX.
