iOS 18 Beta 8 Review - What's New?

all right it's time for another iOS 18 video and today I'll be going over the new changes in iOS 18 beta 8 that was just recently released so this update actually does not contain that many new features uh it's primarily a bug fix update uh because we're at very very close to the final relase release um I would predict that this is the last beta before the release candidate or RC version uh which will most likely be released uh the day of the iPhone 16 event which is currently scheduled for September 9th so uh there are however still several things that are needing some refinement uh which is it's Apple's kind of cutting it uh bringing it down close to the wire and uh so yeah hopefully some of these things that I'm going to mention get remedied fairly soon but anyway first off is just general smoothness and or stability of the operating system itself um it does appear um going from beta 7 to Beta 8 that the smoothness and stability has significantly improved um compared to just all the other previous betas this one definitely does feel the most refined version uh compared to the previous uh which is great uh the more refined it is uh the better the uh final release will be and so the current build number is 22A 5350a and this is the second version that has the letter A in the build number which basically signifies we are getting very very close to the final release and typically when you have two a's or two versions rather of the build number that has the ends in the letter a uh the second version is usually the more most stable okay next up has to do with the wallet app so if we go over to the wallet app add a new uh card uh and you go down to driver's license state ID you can see there is new option for Hawaii so you can now uh add a driver's license and/or ID card from the state of Hawaii okay so now we're pretty much done with the new features aspect of this update uh all the next things are basically bug fixes and or things that still need to be fixed um and the first one is the Emoji Keyboard uh is the same as it was uh in beta 7 meaning that it is looking like that the uh this revision of the Emoji Keyboard that's basically been here for the last three to four beta versions is going to be the one that's in the final release more than likely and I said this in the last video in beta 7 that I actually do prefer uh this design and or layout of the Emoji Keyboard uh much better than how they had it in uh beta 1 and two next is the phone app and it has not changed again since beta 7 so when you go into your recents uh again and you go to search you see those that little call icon on the right hand side um and when you hit that you can call the number straight away but when you're not searching you get the standard little I icon that gives you info to the phone number that you're uh that come in moving on now to wallpapers again this is another thing that just has not changed so if we go in and try to change one of the wallpapers you see we add a new wallpaper uh we do still do not have the iPhone 15 Pro wallpapers uh which has been missing for several uh beta versions at this point not entirely sure why Apple removed the 15 Pro wallpapers from IOS 18 very strange uh decision on their part um it does look like however the iOS 18 wallpapers are in back now uh where previously these were not showing up uh but yes the 15 Pro wallpapers still are missing so hopefully by the final release that will be put back so if we go out and go back over here to settings and go to display and brightness uh you can see the display and brightness settings uh the little icon here for light and dark Mode still shows the old wallpaper from I iOS 17 so that's an area that has not been updated and still needs to be fixed and or changed to match the iOS 18 wallpaper uh this next one I can't actually show uh but in beta 8 there is now a slew of new Splash screens for the various built-in apps so each time you open an app for the first time you're going to get a brand new splash screen uh with some detailed info about the new features that are contained within that particular app okay next is a bug fix for weather so if we go into weather and it involves the weather map so if we go to the weather map uh precipitation now you can see the precipitation layer loads much much faster than it has previously and it is a lot more stable so before it kind of would uh get a little bit glitched and half of the United States might be not showing for precipitation uh however now it seems like it's functioning how it should be and same thing goes for the air quality map so if we go over to air quality it now loads much quicker and shows uh the information correctly uh which is nice next up is regarding the tips app so I talked about this in beta 7 and it appears that it is still happening in beta 8 but the issue that people report is that the tips app does not load all the time so sometimes it might stick and just indefinitely load and never open so see if it happens to me nope so I personally have never encountered this glitch I've every time I open the tips app it seems to just open right away and has no issue but for some people it's still even in beta 8 is having that a weird loading issue so again that's another weird glitch that hopefully is going to be remedied before the final release but we're getting so close that it's kind of coming down to the wire and I'm not sure if it's going to get fixed at this point and last bug fix is relating to the standby so when you put the phone into standby mode uh and it's connected to a charger and it's in landscape um previously you would not be able to edit or modify the standby widgets and stuff uh it was a bit of a glitch that would prevent you from doing that however now in beta 8 it seems like standby has been mostly fixed and is a lot more stable and smooth to use uh however it does seem like some people are reporting that intermittently they are still having an issue with standby so it doesn't seem like it's 100% fixed um however it is a lot better than it was previously and last thing here involves that weird Tex string glitch that we were seeing in beta 7 as well as all the way to iOS 8 or iOS 17 uh that was just recently um found found by a security researcher but that text string glitch is still happening in beta H so if I go over here to Spotlight and I do that quote quote colon fourth character you can see it crashed to Spotlight still uh if I go over to app Library try it there quote quote colon for me app Library does not crash not sure why but one thing I found yesterday is that if you go into the settings app and you try to search and do the same thing with the search within settings you go quote quote colon fourth character and you can see it completely just crashes the entire Settings app and uh pushes you out to the home screen so it does appear that people that are using the iOS 18.1 beta uh the beta 3 of 18.1 does seem like it now fixed that glitch so hopefully it's gone for good in 18 .1 uh but in at least for now in uh 18 beta 8 and probably uh the final release of iOS 18 um or still going to have that glitch until iOS 18.1 comes out to the public but anyway so that's it for this uh bit of an update video for iOS 18 beta 8 um if you guys enjoyed the video hit that like
