14th Amendment Section 3

hey folks welcome back to another episode where we dive into the quirks and Oddities of our political system so let's talk about the 14th Amendment you know that little nugget in the Constitution that's all about citizenship and equal protection but wait there's more it's like the Swiss army knife of amendments covering a lot of ground but today we're focusing on section three section three is like the do not pass go do not collect $200 cards for anyone who's committed Insurrection or given Aid and comfort to enemies of the United States sounds pretty serious right it's essentially The Constitution's way of saying you're fired to traitors well apparently Congress missed that memo it's like they're treating the 14th Amendment section three like a piece of Fine China too precious to actually use they've put it on a high shelf Out Of Reach and are pretending it's not there maybe they're afraid it'll break if they touch it now Imagine This right after 911s Osama Bin Laden decides he wants to run for governor just picture it Bin Laden 2010 with campaign slogans like crash into progress ridiculous right but here we are in the aftermath of January 6th where folks who played a part in the Insurrection are strutting around like peacocks at a fancy Garden Party they're acting like they've done nothing wrong Congress is letting them get away with it and what is Congress doing they're sitting on their hands avoiding the topic like it's the plague it's like they're hoping if they ignore it long enough it'll just go away I get it talking about insurrections at the family dinner table can be a real mood killer but come on this isn't just any dinner conversation this is about the future of our democracy section three of the 14th Amendment is Crystal Clear if you engage in Insurrection or give Aid and comfort to enemies you're disqualified from holding office no ifs ands or butts yet here we are with some members of Congress providing Aid and comfort through their sheer in action it's almost like they're auditioning for a new reality show America's Got treason and let's not forget to overturn that disqualification you need a 23 majority vote in Congress but instead of holding a vote they're playing a glorified game of Let's Pretend nothing happened so why is this important because allowing those who undermine democracy to walk free sends a message that Insurrection is just another day at the office it's like giving a high five to someone who just lit your house on fire look folks democracy is like a fine-tune machine if you ignore the warning signs and fail to maintain it it's going to break down and ignoring the 14th Amendment section three is like ignoring the check engine light on your car hoping it'll magically fix itself so next time you hear a politician dodging questions about January 6th remember this their silence is providing Aid and comfort to those who sought to to overturn our democracy and that my friends makes them unfit for office it's time to hold Congress accountable dust off that 14th Amendment section three and put it to use because protecting democracy isn't just important it's essential and the cost of in action is far too high thanks for tuning in and remember democracy isn't a spectator sport get involved stay informed and let's demand better from our leaders catch you next time and hey if Congress still doesn't get the memo maybe we should send them a singing telegram nothing says take action like a barber shop quartet belting out you're fired in four-part harmony until next time folks catch you next time
