[Music] yeah I mean I think it's been it's been a long long journey starting from Winter workouts here spring ball and now in the camp so I think we're excited just to play football again and you know do do what we love to do so it's it's not really anxious I just say we're excited and you know ready to play Tyler we just heard from James that R is going to play a ton this Saturday so uh what do you think he's done to set himself up for success I think he's a he's a tight end that can do a little bit of everything and I think he's just gotten better at that he's got a better better run blocker he's always been really good in the past game runs great route so I think like he said he's going to play a huge role for us this year and I'm excited to see him play he also said Luke Reynolds is going to play he he gave he did this his hand on that a little bit too uh how does a guy like Luke go from showing up at 218 to playing in game one for Penn State I think it goes to his mentality and the way he approaches you know gaining the weight that he gained and then the the his mentality and and getting better and he wasn't where he wants to be he's never going to be where he wants to be he's always going want to get better but I think the way he attacks every day and the way he prepares and and tries to learn as a as a younger guy is really impressive and it's helped him out he he's going to do a great job for us in the game you talked about doing or rap doing a little bit of everything um James said that was also something that we can see you do um how's it been over the course of the offseason just kind of being a part of this new offensive system yeah I think we we like it as tight ends I really I think the whole offense like it just it's whatever you're good at he's going to find a way for you to do it and and that's kind of what offensive football is about being the best teammate you can be and doing whatever the offense needs and I think he's done a great job of putting us in the right positions to do that how much are you looking forward to showing people what this offense can do because you know what it's all about but nobody else has really seen what what's going what it's all about what's going on yeah I think we're just we're just excited to get out there and you know finally finally play the game and and play as a offense and play for each other and and we know that if we do that that's all we can ask of ourselves the offense and play with great effort how much success did you find when you went out wide this off season the same same as like tight ends yeah I mean you personally yeah I think I think all of us really have done done good in whatever they've asked us to do they split us out know blocking in line in the back field stuff like that so just like I said being allaround guys is kind of what we we pride ourselves on in the tight end room I think we've done a good job of that this year what's that connection been like with Drew throughout this whole process it's been good I mean it's been you know starting last year and just keep building it and trusting you know getting the Reps that you can all through Camp all through Spring ball stuff like that so it's been good and I think he's he's been spreading the wealth around to everybody in the offense and that's another thing with this offense just spreading the ball around so there's not one guy you can really focus on since it's been good James just called you the most complete tight end in the country that's his words what does it mean to you to have your head coach putting out a statement like that yeah I mean I that that means a lot that's that's my that's one of the reasons I came to play here is for Coach Franklin I I love him as a coach and I think that really just speaks to our tight end room and you know how Tai how how runs it we're all about being doing everything we can at the tight end position which is run blocking and pass catching and whatever else they might ask us to do so yeah it means a lot and I think that's kind of what we PR ourself on the as a tight end room as a whole that's kind of how we try to approach the game I know you've answered this question but now that you're at this point where NFL Scouts are talking about you James is talking about you what has the journey been like from high school quarterback to now this complete tight end that everybody's talking about yeah I think it it's it's a it was a long journey that I got a lot of older guys I got to play with that are great tight ends playing at the next level now that I've got to learn a lot from so I think really just being able to learn from from great tight ends that have come through and you know try and pass that down to young guys now is kind of how the tight end room has been going for the past five six years so just keeping that up is really important I think think done a good job with that since you've been here Tyler has your knowledge for what's possible at the position grown at all and if so in what way uh it's definitely grown from when I first got here cuz I wasn't I never really played tight end at all but but really it's a position you can do as much as you allow yourself to do and and what you're what you're able to do so really it's it's really up to the tight end as much as you want to get used and I think that's kind of what we do at at Penn State is being being able to do whatever they need us to do an offense so it's been it's been fun is there maybe a familiar connection with you and Luke just given the fact that he also played High School quarterback yeah yeah I think you know he's a he is similar to me he's not the most talked with guy and he kind of just goes about his business the right way so I I I try and pull him to the side and stuff after plays stuff like that but he's been he's been great and I'm really excited for him to to be able to play what tools do you think having played quarterback maybe teaches you about the the tight end position yeah I think I mean just learning offenses as a whole which is a thing coming in as a freshman is one of the more challenging things just being able to keep up with the college offense and he's done a great job with that so I think especially for him you know being able to play this com upcoming game I think just being able to you know learn offense and know the plays cuz that comes from playing quarterback and know what everybody's doing so it's been good how explosive can you be in this offense it's really I mean as explosive as anybody it's just trusting trusting Coach K and trusting our process and not trying to do not trying to be explosive just letting it come naturally which I think we've done a good job of and it's been good Drew said one of the challenging things about the offense was learning all of the terminology uh was that the case just for the quarterbacks or does that does it impact them more than it does position players you follow what I'm saying or it is it tough for everybody until you get there I say it probably is toughest for them cuz they got to know all of it and then kind of as you go down the ladder it's like less you have to know you just got to know what to listen to but it definitely was a a change we had a we had to get used to it but I think now it's flowing fine and we picked it up well but it is probably I would say the quarterbacks have to know the most for sure so like second nature now would you say or like yeah yeah you know we we've been repping it for a while now so we talk about referencing the call and just you hear you hear the first few words you should probably know what the whole play is going to be by that point so it's been just getting reps over and over again play call stuff like that have you submitted a play yet submitted a play yeah and was talking about how players in the past have like given a play like they drew a play and he put it yeah uh I mean I do I usually send him to coach how I'll just see either Clips on like Instagram or something send to him but but yeah he is a guy that if it's very fair game to do that and I I believe he would he would use him and I'm sure he's taken some suggestions from players this offseason statistically you've gotten better every year can you talk more about your personal Jordy on that front yeah I think really it was just you know trusting the process and doing doing what was asking me with the offense you know early it was of uh had a limited role with three three total tight ends that were playing then it was three tight ends where I played a little bit more but still three tight ends and last year was mostly me and Theo predominantly saw I mean it's not really anything changing it's just the amount of amount of reps and looks we got as tight ends cuz we had a lot of dudes in the room sharing it and then there's going to be a lot of tight ends playing this year too so it should be it should be fun and I'm excited for the tight end room talked about Luke's journey and everything that that he's done to get here what does he bring to the tight end room that maybe you guys don't necessarily bring I think I think he's definitely he is very very good in the pass Game and his mentality in the Run game was kind of what set him apart as a freshman it's usually hard for a fresh going to come in and be able to block right away but the way he approaches it and you know you can tell that he's not scared to stick his face in there and and block the DN and stuff so it's been it's been fun to watch and I'm excited for Tyler you're only four or five touchdowns away from breaking the Penn State tight end touchdown record is that something you look at or do you just go out there no I mean if it if it comes it comes with and you know I'll be I'll be very honored there's a lot of great tight ends that have came here but really I would I would much rather just take the offense playing as good as we can and if it comes through that then that'd be great but but that's not something like I'm I'm checking off on my list or anything like that Tyler how unique is game number one in a season you get the whole Camp you got to work towards you got new guys and new roles what is what is a game one feel and how is it different than other games yeah I think I think maybe the biggest difference is you you know what their identity is but you haven't seen them play a game yet they haven't played a game yet we haven't played a game yet so it's really just you got to there's always going to be stuff you're not expecting in a game plan but you know it's really just trusting your rules and going out there and and doing the same thing you've been doing all year in Camp and and Spring ball but yeah it is a challenge cuz you you haven't put on any tape so far this year but it should it should be a good game we're excited guys went to proove something you know what I mean when they've waited all long or stepping into those roles to you kind of feel that you can you can sense that with some guys right yeah and it is you kind of got to control that cuz you get you get too worked up and you start playing out of your frame and and who you're being who you're not on the field so I think it's you know it's important it is a big build up everyone's excited but staying true to yourself and staying you know maintain your calmness through all the excitement of is important to e
