culture takes time um especially like the way he describes like continually changes because everyone either levels up or you get new people through the door so like you never you never Master it but when you're making way with a young group the hardest thing like I said is like when you've been part of a losing culture losing really becomes a habit and to change that to a winning culture like just takes so much time and it like it's not linear like you have periods where you go well then you have sort of flat spots and like you know our journey three of us has had that and then you get to a point where it's so clear in what we got to do there's a high level of trust we got a clear standard we're having fun um and that's why right now is so enjoyable because no matter what team we play I know the guys are going to respect the opposition and play with the same level of intensity um and that's where you get the joy that comes from that when you got look beside you you know he's going to do his role um you come off the ground everyone's played a part you're not relying on one individual um that's probably the most pleasing part but to get to that stage that's taken years um you know a lot of leadership discussion between us three a lot of sort of being vulnerable putting yourself out in positions and then you know tough losses where you know they hurt but you get a lot of feedback and you got to grow from it so it's nice with the other end now and you know when you when you feel the feeling you're feeling now you just want to be in that forever like it's you know we we feel like we still a lot of levels to go yet but um you know the at our worst when they were in the game so I know the boys want elaborate on that but yeah I and I was uh pretty fortunate to be brought into the club when I was because as cripper said there was probably plenty of years of um tougher times but I think you learned the most about your group and the guys that are willing to stand up and want to put the club in a good position through um the way they work for each other and obviously my first year was 2019 and out of my first 12 games we won one of them um but you're a little bit ni then and just happy to be playing AFL football but from then on there's been a lot of ups and downs but um the thing that I've enjoyed most is um I think we've got a group that's a great great characters that want to work hard looking to get better and of more recent times being well supported um by the coaches to be able to um give us ways to try and play our best footy and I think that comes with a bit of maturity as well of guys becoming more consistent and um um I think throughout that some of the tougher times you learn the most about yourself and as cripper said you don't want to lead that let that slip now and the new guys that came in you want to pass on what um what makes you a good team and a good club yeah I think stability is pretty key as well like we had bossy come in with a you know pretty mature and experienced coaching group that have really um I guess put their stamp and their brand on us and the buying from the group group both on and off the field I think boys are really feeling comfortable in themselves to be themselves and then on the field where you know we're celebrating guys that probably don't usually get celebrated um I guess outside the four walls like you've got GP you got Walsh you got Charlie Harry uh some unbelievable players but then some you know some really good role players coming through the club I think the biggest thing in leadership is is be yourself but then um find what makes you a good leader and everyone has different different strengths in that area I think for me um never underestimate the impact he can have on individuals and um I think that's what really good to the club as we to spoke about before being able to celebrate guys that do things well builds a very good culture and creates a lot of good energy so I think I've learned that through more recent times um and then I think your leadership in any any environment you you put yourself in a position to set the standard so whether that's in training on field or field um you can't go wrong just just being a good person and um being able to enjoy it with with other people is is what you want at the end of the day so building those connections um they're probably the two or three main things that I've learned over my time so far yeah I'd say pretty similar I guess probably one of the bigger lessons for me experienced last year was my ability and probably our ability as a leadership group to invest in others and we understand we've got to get our roles done as leaders and um lead the way on the field but but as soon as you start worrying about self and and your own form and stats and all the rest of it um you sort of I guess you're taken away from the group and and your performance may drop but last year I think our ability both as a leadership group and as a playing group just to to invest in others celebrate others challenge others and I think we saw the result sort of in the back end of the year and the way we're able to play in finals so um I think you like when you have a clear set of values and Behavior attached to them it gives you the ability to celebrate and challenge the standard you want um when you have that um you know you're focusing on the right stuff like all the boys have said and then the biggest lesson I learned last year proba for Watching Ted lasso I I refer to that a lot but just having fun and enjoying it like how do you bring joy to the environment what we do we can bring joy to so many other people we're not actually have a connection with in terms of um know them personally so um yeah that be the things that I've sort of sort of known over the journey and then just not only that how as Leaders do we have you know own our area and hold each other accounted would also celebrate what we do because sometimes when you're leadership position it can be um isolated but if you support each other and have a really strong group of guys that want the best but have the ability to challenge each other then you get a pretty healthy environment Rec we've got like a group of 12 guys that um do stuff like Matty Kennedy's like I can from a energy point of view and driving a culture that people want to have fun in like he's been huge um feel like feel like guys outside there's a few guys even outside that BL AK leads really well and he's got high energy but he sees the game well then I can gu we all love playing with his fog but fog's got a really good footy brain and I actually think he actually understands people really well so he's got a great way of like doing his role but the guys respect it but then I don't know he leads well at Grand there's a lot of guys I don't know what you guys got um yeah I guess leadership is in different forms as well like just guys going out and doing their role like I think Harry as well the way he's been able to sort of battle through his adversity from the last couple years and obviously got Charlie up and running but he's still doing a wonderful job for us um who else we got down there I think GV and Nei down back um especially off the back of last year with some poor performances in the first half I think the way knew he finished the back half and he's certainly a I guess a really good Mentor and sort of almost we call him dad few the boys don't we big Koy so his mentor a lot of the younger Lads and keeps that connection between the older crew and the younger crew so
