Pre-Match Thoughts With Robbie Gotts: Port Vale (H)

got SE now a few games into the actual season uh you guys have played some big teams picked up some good results have a loss am out obviously first loss of the Season uh what were you guys main takeaways from that game obviously disappointed um it was annoying game frustrating game and I know what that game means to the fans as well so at the end of it was disappointment and um but hopefully we can put it right Saturday in terms of uh the Gaff message from after that game during this week has that been anything which in particular has been TR to tweak or is it just been working yourselves yeah probably just working on us and working how we want to play and yeah working on ourselves which is which is the good thing um it's kind of a clean slate now and um yeah again hopefully we can put what we did wrong on Saturday right this Saturday obviously during the summer a bit of change of solid football here compared to what we had last season do you guys still feel that even though we're in season now that week by week you guys are still picking up new things and working out has to be the best version yourself yeah definitely I think that's how you're learning it really when you're playing the game so I think it's it's refreshing what the Gaff has want from us um wants us to you know express ourself and play with freedom and stuff like that so it's really good I've enjoyed it so far and obviously it's been a challenging start in terms of you know three teams you face uh two of them were in the division above last season one of them could have been in the division above this season so you know you guys probably has to be quite sharp quite early on the season yeah definitely obviously playing Portville before they were really sharp in the cup and um car team that came down last year um yeah they've got they've got really good players and we know that um it's just how we deal with that and how we try to stop that do you think it's helped you guys maybe get up to speeds uh a lot quicker in terms of the motivation to compete against these type of teams yeah yeah I think when you're playing against the better players you learn from them you you you get better um you adapt stuff that you need to do in your game and yeah I think we've done that and obviously like you say we've already played Portville good result that time out do you take much from that game in terms of interat or what did you take from that um a little bit um obviously we know they're going to probably make changes um looking at how they set up last game and things like that it's there's there's been a lot of changes but at the end of the day they had a lot of good players that played against us that havn't been getting that many minutes so you've got to be ready for for anything really and it must be good to have all of these home games at the start of the season in terms of just getting used to that environment getting used to playing at Hulk Street um and trying to make that place a fortress again yeah definitely well we've done it maybe the last two years now we've had a good home record and um something that we like to do you know playing at home um so hopefully uh we can we can continue that on Saturday and it must be quite pleasing to have these early home draws in the cup especially you know this Tuesday having a team like Derby County must be a bit more favorable for you guys to you know be playing that game at hwk Street yeah definitely um we we always said if if you get a big team in there you would like it away but at the end of the day when we're at home I feel like we still more of a chance and um and yeah looking forward to that one in terms of Derby in the draw no doubt it be a off game against you know championship team but you know it's that we're belief that you guys can you know challenge them and potentially into the next rounds yeah definitely I think you've got to think like that you know going into any game um and when it's a cup game it's it's a good experience you know that you can you can try to get as far as you can and feel like if we put our minds to it you never know and it must excit you as the players to have that challenge to play against these players playing you know in these top leagues yeah definitely I think as a player you enjoy playing against you know the better players like I said prob you do learn from them um you see what they do in your position and yeah I think it'll be a good test for us
