Strikes continue as Cornell and UAW reach tentative agreement

after around 12 hours at the table last night Cornell and the uaw's bargaining teams they have come to a tentative agreement wy's Alicia Solano went to Cornell's campus and spoke to Pickers and Union reps to gather their thoughts Alicia Nick strikes on Cornell's campus are still ongoing as nothing is officially set in stone yet for Cornell and the UAW now the uaw's bargaining team will bring this agreement to their members for ratification this tentative agree ment is being called historic by UAW Local 2300 president Christine Johnson over 40 demands were discussed at the table and agreed upon and that's without counting those wage increases with increases being one of the biggest Demands a few of the other included topics are a cost of living adjustment and the elimination of a two-tier wage system the agreement also introduces General improvements for safety protections inclement weather protocols and policies for uniforms and time off I mean concern has always been the students you know that's why we have jobs that's the things we want to do every day of lives and a lot of these people here don't want to be out here they want to be inside doing their jobs you know wherever it is that they work so that they could continue servicing the university and making the students feel welcome at the end of the day we love Cornell University we love the students um we want to get back to work we want respect and dignity at work um and our Union allowed us to exercise our right union members and Cornell employees will continue to strike until Things become official voting days for the UAW will start this weekend on Sunday September 1st and they'll wrap up on Monday September 2nd locations and times for the voting have yet to be determined if this agreement is ratified however employees will return to work on Tuesday September 3rd
