Dan Wilson Recaps First Series Win With Seattle Mariners vs. SF Giants & Bryan Woo Impressions

great Series win um you know all three one- Run games and you know we talked about battling early and these guys really battled uh you know each and every inning Brian woo was tremendous today you know the Homer in the first inning you know I think when you try to get to to good pitchers you try to get them early and they they were able to get them you know that one time or early but after that wow that was special um handing it over the bullpen some some big pitches from the bullpen you know I thought Snyder uh really pulled that that eighth inning out did a great job and of course Mooney in the ninth um R roas and his and his uh AB was tremendous um to go up there left on left and and uh get that base hit up the middle that's that's the big run right there and again just trying to get runs throughout the game um you never know what inning what run is going to be important and that was a big one right there for us and um I thought some great defense too early in the game I thought revos made a couple nice plays at short palano with a great play at short or at second and then Hanny a great catch and right um you know good good pitching outings don't come without some good good defense uh so great game all around um really good team win really good series win and uh you know Tampa coming in tomorrow we just keep rolling questions Dan obviously a tumultuous few days just for the guys in here but just be able to come out in a beautiful day like this get the win get the series win just how important is it to kind of stabilize things going forward yeah uh weather turned you know roof was open great great day the fans were tremendous I thought it was great energy in the ballpark today and you know the guys really responded to that uh picking up the win is big and you know get a chance to to rest a little bit tonight and then uh you know start that new series tomorrow but um you know I thought uh we did what we had to do today and you know grind it out a w and uh that's big um and again the energy in the ballpark uh what the fans do for us really picks you up and and keeps you going Dan with Brian after he gives up the Homer how did you see him kind of settle in from there and just kind of get into a rhythm what really stood out about well he you know he got ahead we talk about that so much though oh the one ones and he just was able to start pounding the zone and and I thought he had a very good change up today a very good slider as well and and I mixed it I thought he and Cal did a great job together mixing and matching and and uh you know that that fast ball is is so tough and when you've got secondary stuff that goes with it it becomes very very difficult to hit and I thought he had them well under control most of the ball game Dan this is the fifth time he's gone into the seventh you know five in a row um is it is it easier to when you're out there you don't have to worry about you know the pitches and the the usage a little bit cuz he has built up a little bit from all the injury stuff that he's gone through ear yeah I mean that's a big thing for him right and and uh today we needed that too because you know our Bullpen was was taxed a little bit yesterday and so him getting into the through the seventh was enormous and uh uh you know I thought you know they they they tried to score there late in the in the seventh inning but he was able to slam the door and and uh you know you've got somebody special when you're at the you know almost the 100 pitch mark but you can you can dial it up a notch at that point is it physical and mental I mean how much of it is a mental aspect of hey I got to finish empty the tank and go right here yeah I it's both it's both and I think his confidence right now is is very high um I think he wanted the ball in that situation and and uh he got it and and he delivered and and that's that's it's great to see that maturity coming from Brian Colin Snider's had a really good run here but he hasn't been in that situation necessarily a whole lot too what's your thought process there in the eighth inning gets a couple Runners on the heart of their lineup what's going through your mind yeah um I thought he was well under control I mean he did give up a couple of base runners but uh I thought as he got into the inning he started to execute pitches a little bit better and and uh was able to to shut the door that's what we needed and and uh you know it's big in those kind of situations to to pitch the entire inning again our Bullpen was was taxed and and so to get that complete inning from him and then turn it over to Mooney in the was was big are you tempted we've seen Mone come in there quite often this season is that it's something obviously yeah you consider um but you you want to give Mooney that the ball in the ninth with a clean inning a chance to win the game and uh you know that's that's the way the bullpen works and and I thought Colin did a great job to get us there and deliver for us and and then Mooney took care of the rest he was really able to settle down after Woodworth had that mountain visit with him too what does Woodworth bring to the pitching staff and how he helps get them through situation like that yeah it's it's I think Woody Trent they they do such a great job on the pitching side and and uh you know the process they have uh you know we talked about process a little bit yesterday but it's it's outstanding and and I think these guys trust Woody because they know it comes from a place of of having numbers having experience and having you know a lot of knowhow behind what he says and he I think he has a very calming demeanor and when he goes out there I think that was a chance to kind of give Brian a breather and kind of set up what remains in in that last in that last hitter for him and uh you know it just was a good reminder for Brian that that I can empty the tank right here and and uh finish this inning Dan you had guys running a ton Deo had those three swipes you sent Cal at one point I mean traffic was heavy today what parts of today mirror with what you want long term out of this offense yeah I I love aggressiveness and I think we had you know Robbie is is a little bit slower to the plate and and uh we knew we could take advantage of that and these guys were ready to to get on that and uh I think it kind of sets the tone early in a game too and uh we're able to swipe a couple bags get ourselves out of double play and into scoring position and and uh you know I think I thought it made a statement early these guys were were aggressive and you know uh I loved it any updates on Luke rley uh yeah Luke had a little bit of a a flu situation before the game and so uh we'll just see how he does and and uh hopefully be back tomorrow in six of eight Innings today got the first runner or the first batter on U what's the importance of you know it was walks it was singles it wasn't necessarily the big hits but what's the importance of that first guy up creating traffic on the PES yeah it's tough uh I think that's it's a big part of what we're trying to talk about and and and having tough at bats and giving them tough at bats so that we have tougher Innings against the pitchers and and uh even even if Robbie doesn't come out of him an injury uh you know he's his pitch count was pretty high there in the third or fourth inning whatever it was and so you know I I think that's a big part of what we're trying to to impress here and and uh you know our guys are patient for sure uh but you know you look at some of the bats as well you look at JT and and just a couple situations where he's able to get the ball up the middle get on base um that's you know that takes its toll over the course of a ball game and and uh you know you're you're never out of an inning you're and you're always coming back and uh it it really helped us to get you know get back in the game and then finally Take the Lead all right thank
