SCOTLAND 2 v POLAND 3: Steve Clarke frustrated by ‘self-inflicted’ errors but there are positives

Steve obviously plenty of positives to take from that but at the end it's another defeat how do you sum it up obviously disappointing to lose a game like that a game that we shouldn't lose we shouldn't lose but if you make if you make errors at this this level you get punished and we we got punished severely for the the errors that we made in the game lots of good things but still a defeat Grant Hanley an experienced Defender um how do you explain his challenge at the end and what kind of frame of mind is is he in right now everyone's disappointed we we lost a game that we shouldn't have lost uh it's not about picking out individuals we never do that I've never done that and I'm going to I'm not going to start now we win as a team we lose as a team we'll go away we we'll we'll analyze the game and we'll speak in Camp hi Steve um we really needed a positive result after the the Euros didn't we how how much of a set back does does this feel I think if I analyze the performance I have to be happy with the performance uh so there's a small Crum of comfort for a for a head coach and that we didn't have a lot of time to work on the training pitch we knew the the system that Poland would play would causes one or two different issues to maybe what you would normally face uh but I thought I thought we dealt that well I thought the the team shape was good the the attitude the energy the players was was excellent the the only thing is if you make like I said before if you make small mistakes at this level you you get punished you did you made some positive substitutions the likes of gold and do coming on that certainly um cheered the fans up I mean how how good was it to get their contribution what did you make of what they gave you I think they brought energy to the game at a time when the game was was had opened up uh I thought all the substitutions that went went on to the pitch all the substitutes went on made made a good impact in the game obviously it helps when you just make a substitution and you score immediately that helps everybody gets us back to a score line which which should have been the worst score line that we that we faced at the end of the game should have should have been at worst 22 but like I said you get punished for individual you get punished for mistakes at this level Steve you mentioned the the individual errors coming back again is that a concern that these keep cropping up because it's been a pattern for a little while now in terms of the goals we're conceding and how do you eradicate that good question keep working keep working hard uh it's one thing you can do work on the training ground uh ask a little bit more out the players to to not make those errors and and hopefully as we as we move forward that will be the case VR said it was a hand ball that's it Steve Des despite the disappointment that everyone feels do you feel as though this is a good starting point for for this campaign that the changes you've made to can of move in a you feel it's a good starting point for us at this moment in time it doesn't feel good anything uh but I think when you think back to what I said before was about building a squad and and and trying to bring a freshness there were a lot of good things in the game if you want to just report on the on the score line it's nice negative it's disappointing for everybody if you want to look objectively at the the performance there are a lot of good things that we can take forward obviously some things that we have to eradicate from from our performance and that's what we have to look to do if we can keep that positive energy around the the camp that we have now going into the the next five games which won't get any easier certainly doesn't get any tougher than going to elizan to play Portugal so now at the moment I just feel really disappointed for the players because I thought their efforts deserved to get at least a point out the game so I'm sure we'll get over that disappointment tomorrow we have to reflect on the game a little bit and then and then move on to the the the Portuguese last one Michael Steve it it might have been a kind of tricky night with the supporters but I mean they they they did really buy into that second half yeah fantastic even even in the first half when when they the game or the goals went against us I always felt the supporters were with us the start of the second half obviously get get the early goal the supporters never I think the supporters enjoy watching their team when they play like that obviously they don't enjoy going home on on the back here a disappointing defeat but I think they can see that we tried to do something a little bit different we tried to play a little bit different we tried to put some uh positive energy into the team and the supporters were fantastic in the summer for me the the supporters when they come to hon are always great Phil house Phil house tonight could have been a lot they said I'm not going to go after the the disappointments they had in the summer they've all turned up they've got behind us fantastic atmosphere I'm just sorry that they're going home sad again okay thank you all
