welcome to Huntington Bank Stadium home of the Minnesota Golden Gophers as we get set for what ought to be a terrific battle maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the ACC the North Carolina Tar taking on a team from the Big 10 the Minnesota Golden Gopher for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one [Music] started and the golden goers will get us started with the opening kickoff and he's coming out of the end zone gets it across the 20 to the 21 and not quite would would have picked up just taking the Touchback so the North Carolina Tar Heels offense will have the first possession of the game and here he comes this offense is built completely around the talents of this running back a rare commodity in today's game and all eyes are on it and the defense knows it too you know every single snap this defense is going to be keying on this running back knowing that he is the key to the offense's success we knew coming in that they wanted to push the ball down the field and they waste no time getting at it and I love that man I love being aggressive early setting a tone sending a message to my team listen we're going to attack down the field you better be ready for it this offense comes out gets the big completion way down the middle of the field hand off to the single back and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge stopping the run is about physicality it's about I'm bigger than you I'm stronger than you up front really nice job by the defense showing their strength bowed up stuff in the Run got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 on the ground it's Hampton solid fundamentals on that tackle from this freshman oh man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack now facing a third and Long Johnson wants to throw it it's complete to the right putting together a real scoring threat here as they pick up the first down at the 36 wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice they'll throw it on first down got it in the middle it's Blackwell and how about that catch and run so dangerous this guy yeah when you run those drag routes just takes a little bit of knowhow and when I say that the receivers got to understand find Space my quarterback's going to find me he's looking for that space at the same time nice throw nice catch way to get the first down the tars come to the line with a new set of downs just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the loss that incompletion leads to Second down and 10 power football with the Run they make the stop but this running game moves the change as they get the first down I'm Amazed by this offense this is how you set the tone for a game running throwing on the opening drive driving right down the field you've just run to set yourself up now in first and goal they are feeling it and the Tar Heels trying to cash it in on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run knocked down after a gain of one they'll mark it at the six man that D tackle is a freak athlete did you see him come out of the stance and beat the offensive lineman getting to the running back catlike quickness they keep pushing forward now back to work on second and goal from the six receiver on the Move gets the touch pass Just Trucks through it touchdown Tar Heels and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on him well you know this offensive coordinator scripts his opening 1015 plays and he didn't even need that they went nine plays and scored a touchdown everything working perfectly they looked like a well oiled machine early in this game offensively getting set for the point after exra and the pat makes it seven nothing they March 79 yds on the drive and they get it into the end zone with a 6yd touchdown pass they're lining up to boot it away set to advance on the football on the run from inside his own Z five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so Minnesota's offense will have its first possession of the game typically the last thing a defense wants is to have a backer on a wide receiver but we may see some of that today guys typically you don't see linebackers that can run like this guy and that's why they feel okay letting him cover this Dynamic wide receiver one-on-one yeah and and feel okay it's not going to be a good thing you better get your hands on it early put your physicality let that win it ain't going to be your speed and they'll line up from the 31 on first down he's going to pass catch in the middle it's Glenn they'll move the chains after he gets it to the 43 yd line nice job by the receivers there running the drag route against Zone coverage finding the soft spot making it easy on his quarterback to get the completion he turns it up field and he moves the sticks they are dialed in on this drive a couple of Chunk plays and now they'll snap it on first down wide receiver shows motion but Jet Sweep pass and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three and these little touch passes man they're just easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to put have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the inside and offenses want to continue to feature the Run they want balance even if it's not super successful you can take it little bit at a time just to keep that defense honest now on third down this offense has been rolling can the defense Stand [Applause] Tall quarterback on the keeper and a really nice run and pickup there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play oo I like that option play I'd keep running that too because it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run he'll put the tight end in motion looking for a physical attack from the gun he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple and it's a great play by the defensive end the most athletic players on the field play defensive end Yes you heard me Jess Reese exactly what I said great get off great job getting the Back Field making the play after that last loss it's second and 12 he'll try it again and you can forget running in the middle against this defense the that's a really good stop by the defense Jesse they need a few more you've given up a bunch of yards on this drive and a bunch of plays but all that matters is keeping them off the scoreb yeah it's that bend don't break mentality you're seeing right now and this is the point where this defense has just got to lock in back to throw it's brosmer they're setting up the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short game there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down you got to love that on defense one of the most critical statistics out there is how do you play on third down how do you prevent the opponent from keeping drives alive right there tackling the catch you gave up the completion whoop-de-doo you set up fourth and long you're going to get the ball back go get some water and sele it is is perfect how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just TR him out there and let him stroke it through the upright [Music] [Music] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away looks as if the returner will try and field this one couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 the North Carolina offense returns to the field out of the gun the inside handoff looking for a crease and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening great team defense on that one play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ones D lineman staying in their gaps linebackers and DB's filling you just can't do it better they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 ease looking to throw snagged in the middle it's Blackwell they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down a nice job by the QB there timing out that drag throw it's Zone coverage so he's got to make sure gets it to his receiver in a window to allow him to catch the ball and then turn it up field offense breaks the Huddle it's third [Music] down looking to throw for it get it out on the screen running with power they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job game tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs after picking up a couple at second and eight might as well stick with him Pils through the defense showed off just about every move in the book except the forward move stopped for a short [Applause] gain how bold will they be on third down after that last run it's a draw and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play yeah and that's a really good job by the defense cuz when you get in that third and medium area listen you got to be worried about the run and the pass did a good job playing both got it stopped now forcing a fourth down the tarel will putt this one away he ought to be able to use this first punt to pin him deep and no shot at a return here as the punt goes out of bounds opening play of this drive will come from their own 23 from the shotgun they'll run it just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of [Music] two guys we've reached the end of the period and North Carolina's on top and after that first quarter let's see if these guys can get back in the game in the second will start the quarter offense about to snap it on second down dropping back it's brosmer Lofts one high and deep and the incomplete pass taking a shot on second down and they'll be left with a third down offensive players know where the ball was going defensive players don't great job by the dpb adjusting to the football seeing it playing the wide receiver and making sure he can't catch the football probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long Ball's at the 25 from the gun wants to pass he'll take another shot here another incompletion on third down that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks you can get the pass rush going everybody in the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth down the Golden Gophers will line up to pun it away he'll try to really get into this one just needs a crack to get a return he was working his way toward Midfield but they'll stop him at the 46 yd Line North Carolina has it back in the tar heill so pleased to send the offense back out fires to the wide out he's got it a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down great job by the quarterback thrown against Zone coverage you cannot Telegraph where you're throwing the football you cannot eyeball wide receiver so great job by the quarterback using his eyes not staring down his guy and then throwing him open they have a first down at the 41 yd line motion from the offense quick pass on the Fly motion he is stopped behind the line of scrimmage they'll lose yards on that one the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my Speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss coming after it that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it wasn't knock free for a f it'll be third down doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentto pockets starts to collapse and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes on Third and long you know what's coming that's exactly where you want to get an offense the passing game has to come out you go nickel bring some more speed on the field and the defensive line gets home and gets the sack to force the fourth down and the Taral will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he'll aim it toward the sideline to try to make it tough on the return team and that is an excellent punt as it lands out of bounds inside the 10yd line leaves it with the running back runs into a wall they'll give him one out to the eight and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell didn't get much on first down it's second and nine looking downfield it's it's brosmer unloads to the wide out got his man downfield and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play ree you and I were talking about this before the game how is this defense going to be able to deal with all the speed they have offensively you saw them just rip off a big play and Jesse now their head's spinning just a little bit give up a big chunk play and it's right back at him finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first int he wants to throw caught in the back field it's Taylor he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down the guys out of the back field now it's not just run the ball downhill anymore you got to be verstile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on you second and short now after that completion the give to Taylor and the Golden Gophers are stopped but not before getting the first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs and a good good solid pick up there before the defense knocks him down listen they didn't get the huge playoff of that but but I love the ability to show that and be able to show plays off of that that jet motion and just show them you're willing to complete it but you know get those little chunks at a time it doesn't have to always be a home run that's still a successful play leaves it with the back he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive the Golden Gophers with the first and 10 they'll run it from the gun you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play offensive lineman love to run the power why you run power you run power then you can play action you don't want that def be sitting there saying it's a pass it's a pass having the pass block every play you got to keep defenses off balance halfway there on first down it's second and five looking for a man it's brosmer catch open down the middle and he's knock down but not before moving the chains you got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first first down with the first down they'll put it in play from the 33 out of the shotgun they go to the ground knocked down at the 29 after a pick up of four nice run there on first down you know this is a running back that gets better as the game goes on they're going to want to make sure they keep feeding him the football let him get lathered [Music] up after the productive first down play it's second and six now the play fake keeps looking down field and he can find a receiver and down he goes well the problem with the playaction game is that it forces the QB to hold on to the ball just a little bit longer to allow some of these plays to develop and of course that gives this defense longer to get after they'll snap it for the 10th time on this drive but they need a chunk on Third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch quarterback now breaking the field and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down well just a really nice job there on that third down trying to get after this quarterback and obviously they're not able to make the play in the back field but really nice job pursuing you see the athletic and the speed they have how they play as a unit together only giving up a little bit of a gain and Now setting up fourth down right down the boulevard it's good well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease [Music] so they were able to put up a three spot on that last drive and now the kickoff team out there as they prepare to put boot to leather here he comes from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the North Carolina offense returns to the field he misses his man the accuracy just not what it needed to be on that play and that's so much for a quarterback think about stick it out in the belly do I pull it now when I pull it oh I got to get my feet set make an accurate throw to the right guy so a lot of things going on and I think that you saw that led to a little bit of inaccuracy they'll line up for a second down play Johnson looking to throw fires to the wide out a strike downfield and it's a first down they'll mark it at the 44 man this offense is so dangerous ree they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels the tars want to move quickly off the play fake on first down he's got an open man they make the stop but this passing game does some damage and they move move the sticks with the first down well you know who's got to love this offense picking up so many first downs it's their own defense David I know you love playing on teams with great offenses they'll put it in play from the 40 on First and 10 he's looking to throw it getting some heat and the Freshman will talk up a sack and the defense needed that one badly they're losing in this game they just gave up a big play so they finally get the sack but you feel like they're going to need more than that they're going to need some turnovers to get back in this game we reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break that sack gets this offense behind the chains it's second down he's looking to throw the short hands it's Jones they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down well the offense able to pick up some extra yards after that curl throw there because the QB got it to his guy early he was able to turn around make a guy Miss and go pick up some ya third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off and the ball comes out what a a disastrous play and the defense has got it and they're bringing it back he's running free down the middle touch down golden goer the defense takes matters into their own hands the defense striking with a scoop and score touchdown and defense is about getting guys to the football sometimes you just get that hit the ball pops out more guys swarm into the football great effort scoop That Thing Up Now do damage with it you always wanted to play offense anyways convert that defensive player offensive player give me that [Applause] six ling up to add another for the EXT point and the extra point is good and the lead is six that is a defensive player stream ball sitting there chance to scoop it up one with it and they don't stop you until the band starts playing they're out there to kick it off the return team must rivet that ball to their rib cage can't afford another turnover he'll bring it back from inside his SP he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the [Music] 18 comes out throwing on first down he hurs one deep down the left side and the DB right with him to knock it away well the receiver was double covered on that play and I don't know if the decision by the QB had to do with the pressure because he was hurried he just had to get rid of that faster than he wanted to he's lucky he didn't come away with an interception now on second down after the incompletion Johnson wants to throw it not quite in Rhythm there incomplete this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking for room it's Hampton timeout called by the defense it's their first of the half as they'll go to the sideline and try to make adjustments and the tarel send out the pun unit he's got great speed the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field pressure coming makes the grab it's Taylor he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today from inside the 40 at the 37 it's first down looking to move it through the air using the back as a receiver on the screen not able to to break the big one on that screen to the running back but he found enough and a solid pick up on first down love the execution there in the screen the running back shows pass protect pass protect last second turns around so he's able to get the ball the D linan have already run past him now he can turn up field for a big Gainer wants to throw on second down time running out and he goes down at the 34 offense calls a timeout here critically important important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here unloads to the right he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete yeah and third and short that choose not to run throw the football and I think a lot of that has to do with they know they're in field goal range they can take the three points on the board and this kicker has had a busy night the field go unit is out there for the third time looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt and this one splits the uprights Carina [Music] [Music] so they put the field goal on the board and about to kick it away and hoping that'll be the final points of this first half from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime from the shotgun the inside G and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays and the quarterbacks buy his Lonesome on second and inches Johnson looking to throw he can't find his man in the clock stop with six seconds left well a great job in coverage on the back end by the defense you just got to finish the play that should have in a [Applause] [Music] pick one more snap coming before half [Applause] [Music] time they'll try to get it through the air heel off one deep down the left side the pass Falls incomplete and that's how we'll finish this half first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update guys it is hard to beat Minneapolis when that town is buzzing as it is today and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen and panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to our guys at the bank they in the Twin Cities the tarel will kick it away first and we'll start the second half on the move from inside is five good job by the coverage units put a stop to that return Minnesota has it back and the goer offense is headed onto the field they got plenty done through the air in the first half and we'll see if they even need to look for balance as we start the third quarter well and I I think defensively you understand like the running game isn't a big part of the plan I wonder how they adjust and play more coverage to this pass happy offense yeah so you're going to have to be ready if you're a quarterback then you're probably going to see some different coverages you might see a little bit more Blitz in this second half as well so you have to know where your answers are got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven fires to the big fella and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do third and short they've got them backed up inside the 20 and the D can get the ball back here throws to the wide out makes the grab and he's brought down after a nice game this is exactly why third down is practiced every single day third and short third and medium third and long it's money down for a reason you got to lock in great success by the offense so far on third down and the gold and goord will snap it on First and 10 running back searching for a hole he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple it's amazing how play by a defensive end in the back field can really swing the momentum not only of a ser series but of a game sometimes all you're trying to do is create negative plays to get them behind the sticks a little bit to get those sacks to get those tackles for a losses you see so much stunting in college football up front with the defensive line because you know once you get one of those plays you got the offense right where you want the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long we saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one looking to throw it's brosmer didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down and this is why you don't want to get in these situations third and long defense knows its pass they're playing pass playing deep QB has nowhere to go with the football so he just throws it away the Golden Gophers will call on their punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away makes a nice grab at the 25 they'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position to the air on first down finds his big tight end they stop him just a link or two short of the first and man what they can do on second down here this is a tight end that not only is going to play with his hand in the ground but he can line up in the slot as well and attack the defense vertically he's too fast for linebackers to cover and he's too big for DBS to cover he's a real weapon in this [Applause] offense they'll Run play action unloads to the wide out got it in the middle it's Jones they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 a big gain there as they did a tremendous job working the middle of the field yeah and if you're going to complete that throw re quarterbacks got to play with anticipation you've got to get it out of your hands early and give your receiver an opportunity before the defense gets to the [Applause] ball he leaves it with the back and that defense pushing him out of bounds after a short game bring up second down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine Johnson wants to throw [Applause] it working that left side now they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his tool points they'll try to run for it got some room headed to the goal line and he rolls into the house touchdown UNC sometimes we ask coaches about halftime adjustments and they go blah blah blah blah blah blah and then sometimes they make some good ones sometimes that blah blah blah blah blah actually works but it's working now but it might be too little too late but at least you got the party [Music] [Applause] started ready to try the point after [Applause] and with the extra point every little bit counts as they get closer a very efficient five-play scoring drive and it was capped off with an impressive 16 yd Run for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field they still have the lead here Jesse but this would be a good time to put together a drive you're right ree you can't rest easy right now you just watch the opponent drive down the field and score a touchdown of their own so you got to answer that here your Playmakers better step up and I don't know what it is about momentum in all the locker rooms in all the years coaching everything you can't quantify it you can't measure it and the momentum has swung to the other side you got to get it back back to throw it's brosman now sliding to his left going to try to get it himself got to protect the merchandise gets down without taking a hit well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nowhere for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive wants to throw on third down snares it out outside it's Jackson he steps out of bounds but he's got enough for a first down well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first and he was Off to the Races and he gets it to the 45 that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep that's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my matchup get it to him let him do the rest unloads quickly tackled almost immediately they're well short of the first down and a great job by the defense seeing it right away reacting to the screen going and getting the football and getting the fast playmaker on the ground and here comes the offense on second down he wants to throw it again nice defensive play to get a hand in there and knock it away yeah and a really good job by the defender understanding the ball's coming I got to break on it and go and not try to intercept it and make a bad play he swats it down to make sure that's an incompletion they couldn't connect on second down now staring at a third and nine looking to throw it's brosmer he makes the connection well the defense playing Zone coverage there they're taking away all of the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running underneath so they're going to send out the field goal unit to try a one he's going to have to break out the thunderfoot on this one a 57 yd attempt and he's got it from 57 what a beauty that makes North Carolina [Music] they were able to get a field goal on board and now they'll kick it away and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 North Carolina has it back in the Tar Hill so pleased to send the offense back out they'll crank up this drive with the pass gets it out out quickly and he goes out of bounds after coming up with positive yardage there I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game that last completion sets him up on second [Applause] down he's looking to throw got it behind the line it's Hampton and he is going to be forced out out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage tremendous defense [Music] there they're going to keep this drive going they'll have to make a play on Third and long from the 26 Johnson looking to throw going deep pulls it in on the right hit the afterburners kid touchdown North Carolina and that one will give him the lead car that was a lightning fast drive that ends with a touchdown if you can string a few more drives like that together man we might as well get our popcorn out because we're going to get a lot of scoring [Applause] leading by one they'll go ahead and go for two and try to make it a field goal game touch pass on the Jet Sweep he gets it into the end zone for the two and now they lead by a field goal quick strike offense on that three-play scoring Drive they kept that one off in style a 70 four Y for the score lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive here's the return from inside is 10 he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Minnesota has it back in the goer offense is headed onto the field the inside handoff stopped at the 25 after a fivey gain I think one of the hardest things to do is stick to the run when it's not but it's Those runs right there the reason why you have to do it right you can't get to one dimensional keep slipping Those runs in there keep getting a little bit of positive yards next thing you know you look up and you might break one of those after you got them a little bit tired they'll go right back to him tackle is made after the first down and you know big chunks like this don't happen unless you commit to the Run game you got to get those big boys up front into the game understanding I want to knock people off the football create some holes like you do here from my running back make the game easy guys we've reached the end of the period and North Carolina's on top they're sitting in a strong position here with the lead let's take a look at our game summary one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory lining up from the 3 four on first down they'll try the Run nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the car well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon or if I can quote outside the 20 the North Carolina offense returns to the field pulls it fired complete they make the stop but not before they do their work up top and pick up a first down I'll be honest man if I had the weapons these guys had offensively I'd be staying aggressive too it's what got him this point it's why they have the lead here in the fourth quarter take some shots with those opportunities present themselves offense working from the pistol they go to the ground keeps the legs moving he had all kinds of company as soon as he got and he had to fight his way back just to get to the line of scrimmage if you're going to stop the run game you better be physical up front on the defensive line they've got some MERS they've got some dudes with bad intentions nice play there got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 the give to the back fights off a Defender and that first Defender was just waving at him after that sweet move he picked up the first down it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do Caught In The Back Field it's well and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage well I think for that play to work you need to have some access and cushion and coverage for the receiver to be able to do something with it after the catch that time the defender was just way too close all over him he tackles him for no game Johnson wants to throw it he's got it he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays from the gun he'll try to throw for it on third down it's complete and they explode on that one and they've got it down to the 22 I'll tell you this quarterback has just been in a great Rhythm all game long with that last completion he's now over 300 yd passing and the Tar Heels in the hurry up wide receiver now comes in motion quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when gets the ball he's hitting the outside David put the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot they'll give it to the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I'll tell you this defensive end not only can he pass rush but he can play the run as well you see him beat the offensive lineman there trying to block him and get in the back field and make that tackle for loss that was impressive facing third and long from the 21 and hoping not to settle for a field goal trying play action fires to the wide out he's got it on the Run gets out of bounds after the big play and they'll be set up in business with a first and goal well this guy's been a go-to guy for this offense all game long we've seen that and here on a critical third down late in the game with the lead guess who shows up with another big one that one this offense not only has a chance to extend the lead but they can also drain that clock made a Defender Miss they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense is taking some punches now it's second and goal [Applause] tries again to get it in into to the end zone he goes touchdown tarel car and the offense continues to run the football the second rushing touchdown from the running back the offensive line paven holes continue to feed this man the ball [Music] lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 he marched 78 yds down the field and Clos the deal with a three- yd touchdown run the kickoff team out there getting set number7 set to kick one away he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Minnesota offense is headed back onto the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between LeBron Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going the Golden Gophers are in the hurry up to the air it's brosmer throws to the wide out tip ball put it up for grabs and I thought he had it but somehow it slithered through his fingers that's one thing about this defense they've got some dudes in the back end that can cover and they can hang with some of these intended targets nice job swatting that one away second down coming up the playaction [Applause] fake caught on the outside it's Jackson and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one the defense has their hands full trying to stop this guy in the slot they're going to have to figure something out to bracket him try and get two bodies around and maybe get some safety help as well cuz right now they do not have the answer for this guy in the dead center of the field as they try to convert this third and short oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down yeah and because of the pressure the defense gets pressure on them immediately so quickly that he he makes a bad decision tries to throw it into double coverage really nice job pressuring the quarterback up front down in the fourth quarter it's too late for empty possessions they'll go for it on fourth down moves away as he feels pressure at the 40 there he goes good run on the play and he slides to avoid the hit man it is Do or Die time right now for this offense playing at home and the quarterback just takes the play over on fourth down knowing they're trailing doing anything he can to scramble find a way to keep this team alive in front of this home crowd this is going to go down to the wire wants to throw on first down unloads to the wide out a beautifully placed ball to the outside and the tow drag for the big pickup and there's no quit in this team obviously they're trailing late in the game but they're trying to make it happen we've seen two big plays now backto back they're putting pressure on this defense and the Golden Gophers will snap snap it on First and 10 he's going to pass he makes a grab takes it to the house touchdown Minnesota oh Uncle Mo has changed Sidelines look out brother here's what happens right something happens get you close in the ball game the defense needs to come out here get a stop get that ball back to the offense oh Uncle Mo on your [Music] [Music] side lining up for the pat exra [Applause] point and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer they March 79 yds on the drive and they finish it with an 11 yard touchdown Dart the kickoff team out there set to boot it away on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 North Carolina has it back in the tarel so pleased to send the offense back out that keeps the running game churning pick up of five to the 23 and a nice job by this defense this is critical moment right we got to get the football back they're backed up thank goodness force a punt here get the football back so we can make some magic here in this fourth quarter no reason to do anything here except keep it on the ground on second and five the give and tick tick tick tick tick tick tick and he'll go down but he delivered the business end of his stiff arm to that defender on the way they'll use a timeout here you have to be certain at this point in the game from the gun the ground game and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down wide receiver coming across in motion give to the running back one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense now staring at a third and short from the 40 he'll try to pop the draw he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three those are the kind of plays in the second half you have to make this back has had plenty of success he's gotten a lot of touches now defensively we got to show him things are about to be different the tarel line up to pun it away they'll look to pin him deep wants to return it and they'll bring him down to get the offense started on the next Drive the drive starts from their own 25 yd line going up top on first down got a man it's Taylor it's a fumble and the defense has got it there trying to pick up some yards and this defense breaks it open as they return it to the house for six North Carolina just put a little bit of distance in this game and try to put it on ice and the defense just trying to fight to stay in the ball game that should be the final blow no more hope uh but good fight till the end [Music] [Applause] on to attempt the tryck on for the extra [Applause] point and the extra point extends the lead to double figures at 10 the scoop and score what a lift they can give to the defense not content to get the ball they wanted to do something with it and they did they're just about to kick it off after that scoop and score six here he comes from inside his own he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Minnesota has it back in the goer offense is headed onto the field looking to pass it's brosmer here's a throw down field late and it falls incomplete but that could have been disastrous a Defender was right there and I understand the logic by the offense here obviously you're down in this game you're trying to claw back into it why not take a shot why not be aggressive in that time they just can't come up with a completion the incomplete pass leaves him with second down he's looking to throw fires to the wide out he's got it he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football this offense lining up now at the 48 yd line on First and 10 he wants to throw through his hands and incomplete he normally makes that catch every time it's second down and that's one the offense just needs to be able to hit right that's a completion they should be able to hit in their sleep receivers got to do a better job second and 10 here he's looking to throw unloads to the wide out got his man and this offense is feeling it as they rip off a big chunk of yardage and they've got it on the 22 it's so nice as a quarterback when you've got a guy like that working for you in the slot he has such a good fi to find the Open Spaces in the defense just makes life so much easier for his quarterback the Golden Gophers want to crank the tempo and they'll get to the line and Spike it to stop the clock it's now second [Applause] down this offense has a second down play dropping back it's brosmer and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a [Music] chance after this it'll be a wrap on Third and long try to convert through the air they're trying to get to it and down he goes and that's
