Creation Technologies Interview with Dave Samuel of Birch Hill Equity Partners

hi everyone we're here today in creation technology santa clara business unit and our board of directors is together for our quarterly board meeting and i'm joined today by dave samuel dave is a partner with birch hill equity partners so welcome dave thank you arthur great to have you with us and we're having a good board meeting and uh we're just on a break from the board meeting and so we thought we'd uh come to you and put together a bit of a video clip dave why don't you start by telling us a little bit about who's birch hill so birch hill is a private equity fund uh we're located in toronto and invest in companies across north america but generally canadian companies or the home base in canada and our objective is typically to back companies and support them in their growth and so if you look through our history we've invested in 47 companies and on average those companies have grown at about 15 to 20 percent a year so very consistent with the creation experience great and dave you invested in creation in 2007 and so maybe just share with us so why what interests you about creation why did you invest in creation so when we looked at creation i mean the ems business is obviously a competitive business and we've looked at several companies over time and what we were struck by with creation is just how well well it was run of all the business we'd come across it was better run better managed than any business we had looked at in the space and as we dug into it we realized that a lot of the key to that success was the broad ownership of the employee base there's now several hundred employees own shares in the company that they bought over time and we think that has made a huge difference and so the company's got a very clear strategy about the customers they serve a very clear focus on how they serve those customers in our view a lot of that stem from the broad ownership of the employee base great well thank you dave and you know you've invested in creation and we of course have our internal view of where we're hoping the company will go we just presented to the board our vision and strategy as an example but i'm sure as an investor and as a key partner with us you have some thoughts as well and so you know what do you expect from creation in the future yeah one of the exciting things about creation is um you know every business has its challenges on sort of how to grow and and what growth is available the exciting thing about creation even though we've been in the business for four years we see no end in sight for the growth so we've seen the business go from 300 million revenue to you know 550 million of revenue and as we look at the market potential we see no reason that that business can't easily double or triple again and so we see really the same strategy the same team but continued aggressive growth through both with existing customers new partners and as appropriate acquisitions great well thank you dave and you know at creation we feel very blessed to have a partner like birch hill that's been very supportive of our growth and encouraging our growth and so we look forward forward to great days ahead so thank you thanks very much
