Ohio State Buckeyes' Defensive Back Denzel Burke After Week 1 Victory Over the Akron Zips

JZ you seem to have this Knack snatching the ball away from wide receivers you just walk interception um just something I do on the regular I guess um the ball came my way my JW to make a play and um but yeah about the the game for lean Ransom coming back for the first time since the injured he scored a touchdown how cool was it to see him have a good day oh man I I was amazing man um it's hard when you got the game taken away from you two years in a row and um just being able to see the fruits he's being able to produce on the field is is amazing and I'm really happy for him and the sky's limits for him this season what did you think of the two linebackers their first starts sunny and uh CJ oh yeah they had a great game you know obviously it's the first game J so you got to get your feet you got to get your feet with a little bit um you know they were they adjusted in the second half and I feel like they had a solid game today that means everything I mean two-time h winner he's got a statue planted out in front of the so um he's a legend around here and uh it's dope you know I even shook his hand for the game I had to get some of that juice in me so that was cool is it important to history it's it's always uh It's always important for the players the current players to on the players that have came before us and uh continue to play at that at that standard which they set and um being able to us to be out there and just play the game we love for the for the state of Ohio and for players like RJ Griffin then so to go for from 11 TNS all year last year to three to start the season off today how good does that feel for you I mean it's good uh you just got to continue to keep Gooding every week and um you know when the ball comes our way we just got to make a play and it's a great start to the season denzo how much fun was it playing in the secondary today CU all the talent around you teammates oh man it's fun man it makes my job a lot more easier um we communicate at a high level and I'm they said physicality for you guys this year how much is that true and how much did it make a difference today um physicality is a big importance of game I mean the game itself is violent so it's important for us to be physical um every single play and um that's our job to continue to do that every week this team have the potential to be more physical than last year oh yeah it's definitely just the first game and we haven't even hit our ceiling yet so we got one more game next week and they got a got a Improvement week after that so it's our job just to continue to keep building get better at our craft and detail our work you guys have obviously talked a lot about wanting more turnovers this year what do you think are the things you guys did in the offseason that started to manifest in that way today be around the ball run to the ball um someone's com you try to punch it out go get the ball BB are cool but go go get an interception or go take it from somebody um but uh yeah it's a big emphasis in our especially in the backend this off season and how did that all practice stealing ball um don't really PR it's kind of like an instinct S I guess you could say um that's all I can really say on it I mean just you create practice habits throughout the week and whatever happens in the game it happen akan did some things to try to catch you guys off guard two quarterbacks and just when you have stuff like that in the first game that maybe you aren't necessarily prepared for how do you adjust to that the way you guys were able to um just continue to just do what we're taught you know we made adjustment at halftime it was it was a little bit irritating in the first half especially two quarterbacks in the game and then they were just extorted the flat so it was it was new but you always expect something new um the unscattered plays that come on the first game so we just we made the adjustment you're you're a veteran team loaded team obviously were you hoping that you come out just doors off right away was a little bit frustrating early on yeah definitely you know we wanted to be able to destroy them the first half but it's the first game um we got to get those little Jitters out and um I feel like we adjusted in the second half and we took over yeah Denzel lean said he was expecting something out of you today how hard you've been working really since you've been here but definitely the last several months and stuff is it vice versa did you expect something big out of lean today oh yeah man he's he had a great off season um he's had that look in his eye all offseason like I said earlier he's had the game taken away from him so it meant a lot for him even know me and him before the game we were just talking about just embracing every little moment this year you know it's was going to be our last year together so you I'm I'm really happy for him and you guys in secondary do you feel like a did you feel like did it feel like you were in a midst of a veteran unit out there how does that feel compared to like three years you understand what I'm saying yeah it feels good with Jordan too you know yeah you know everyone's a vet and especially on the defense it's it's awesome man just being able to be up there on the field just knowing that we came back you know for one reason and um knowing that everyone's going to do their job yeah you know Michigan Stadium that would not have been an interception that would have been a catch you know that right uhhuh your interception wouldn't have been an interception state would have been a catch mean last year you know what I'm talking team yeah yeah uh I was trying to be smart sorry about that uh where can this defense go now I know that's nebulous kind of question but did it play the way you thought it would today this defense um here's understand what I mean did it dominate I mean you know what was the sense out there when y'all are out there really just play the game that we do every day you know we go against the best offense every day and um you know uh it was kind of slow the first couple of first couple of series but um you know we adjusted and played hard what did to the to the defense obviously he may not have put up the numbers some of you guys did but I imagine he he was felt out there yeah um he an amazing player um like I said he's our codc so he's we're always communicating on the field we're talking all the time and he's a great player and um great to have him and this guys a losing all right Denzel thank thanks denz
