Josh Pate On CFB's Best Quarterbacks In 2024 (Late Kick Cut)

Intro one of the biggest questions I think in 2024 is out of all these quarterbacks that used to be rated five stars coming out of high school how many quarterbacks do we have in college football 2024 that Best QBs in 2024 live up to five-star billing so you could be a senior you could be a true freshman right now if you're slated to start this fall and you're a former five-star quarterback how many of those guys should I expect to play at a festar level the 2020 class DJ ouanga still here he's playing at FSU Quinn yers in the 2021 class Drew Aller Conor Wegman Kade kumnick from 22 niik am malava and Jackson Arnold from 23 and Dylan riola true freshman probably going to start for Nebraska have any of those guys played a season of five-star caliber football I don't think they have uh Aller was decent last year Connor Wegman if he could stay healthy I think could do it but none I don't think have have reached the level of playing a five-star caliber season across the board Quinn yers probably has the the least amount of you know room to climb before he's there but I don't even think that he's put forth a five-star season uh but he would be the closest uh he needs the wide receivers this year to pan out lost multiples of his top pass catchers from last year so that's not some slam dunk but I'd feel really good if I were a Texas fam uh that game was crazy by the way that Texas Bama game Drew Aller at Penn State should improve his numbers drastically this year they weren't terrible numbers last year it's just in the big games there was no ability I mean they were shut down against Michigan they were shut down against Ohio State they will have a potent run game again this year um new offensive coordinator in from Kansas defense should should still give him a shot to win every game but do his numbers improve to the point does his overall caliber of play improved to the point where we say you know Drew all true Connor Wegman freshman year he learned some things but man if he's not playing at a festar caliber level now we'll see Conor Wegman at Texas A&M is the biggest wild card because again he's played in spurts that make you say wow if he could stay healthy for a whole year that right there is the kind of guy who could play at a five-star level he needs health I think because of how much newness they have around Texas A&M up to an including the head coach and Colin Klein do not Overlook them bringing in Colin Klein as the new OC there we're talking about Cal Nikki up at Penn State he came there from Kansas well they went to Kansas state did Texas A&M and got Colin Klein and that's a big Personnel move big feels like it happened five years ago it didn't it happened a few months ago so Connor Wegman's there and then of course you've got guys who will start their first full year this year Nico yam malava at Tennessee even though he's a firste starter may be in as good a position as any of these guys to Warrant five-star production labeling because because of the system he's going to be in because of the wide receiver and skill Talent they have around him Jackson Arnold at Oklahoma had some turnover issues in the bowl game I don't totally think they got that cleaned up in Spring I still have extremely high expectation for him uh they made big moves in the portal as well they've got really rock solid multi-year recruiting classes stacked on top of each other Dyan riola true freshman but about to start at Nebraska I'm never in the business of trying to you know overly hypee a true freshman at that position however I am happy to be pleasantly surprised but just I'm looking at the whole bunch DJ uh Quinn ERS I kind of skipped over DJ DJ OU angay though is the I think the most fascinating but also the most known commodity there like I'm not a believer that you'll see five-star caliber play from DJ this year but you won't see bad play I think you'll see pretty good play at the quarterback position big question is is that good enough FSU to do what they want to do this year also losing the kind of wide receiver skill they lost is he the caliber quarterback that can make new skill or is he the kind of guy who needs established skill to make him because you've seen both kinds of players um I got a lot of confidence in Mike norell and his staff having said that at some point with with quarterbacks you've got what you got so DJ Chark it's a really fine line of a conversation about DJ because everybody wants to do the whole 10 or trash stuff you're either great or you're trash he's going to be neither this year I don't think he'll be great he's certainly nowhere close to trash he's a pretty good to really good quarterback I think the ceiling is really good if they get really good play out of him this year it should be good enough for them to win the ACC [Music]
