by the way Jeff flashbacks to your New York days out there today I think it keeps making it harder to be honest I think we've done more more laps this this time around but it hasn't changed it still hurts I saw you chatting with him afterwards was he saying hey did you miss this Why'd You Come Back yeah I used yeah you just said I can't believe you're still doing laps I'm like I mean either but uh no I mean it's uh it's a good skate I mean um that's more of a mental Challenge and uh physical too it's everything and everyone's got to do it together and um everyone gets through it and we've got to get started [Music] no I don't know I just my wife likes it so I don't take it I don't touch it so uh no I've had it for a bunch of years my kids if I if I go too short my kids don't recognize me and they don't like it so I'm stuck with it for now in making your decision to come back here because you had options obviously you're coming off around the Stanley Cup Final how much it was him was it to play for him and how much did he reach out to you to sort of help motivate you to come here yeah I mean I think uh me and my family coming back up to this area and knowing um you know where they're at and and um and just looking at in a way where I can help and and be a part of something where you're growing it and uh yeah I mean the familiarity with with torts and knowing what's expected of me coming in and uh just checked a lot of boxes for me and um uh you know I'm excited to to compete again and to come to an organization that has a a ton of history and a lot of passion and um getting back in into that type of environment again is exciting for me the fact that you just send example for four players particularly the young defense of sir have you had a chance to uh to talk with any of them and kind of you know start to give them some advice on how to get it done in the NHL yeah a little bit I mean I think more the first couple weeks here just kind of just getting to know them um you know I think once once count you get into camp and games and real games um and throughout the course of a season is when um you know those type of things just come about whether they're questions or leading by example or certain things that go on throughout the year so I mean right now I'm just trying to get to know the guys better once you build a relationship with everyone you know and I knew a couple guys but not many and trying to just get as comfortable as possible with them as quick as possible so when it when it is time to get going um you're comfortable speaking your mind and having good conversations and and working hard together what are some things you can kind of tell some of the younger guys I mean I don't know I haven't had it for 10 years so I mean um no I mean listen it's uh he's uh he holds everyone accountable and and I've played for a lot of coaches to do the same he has a different way of going about it sometimes uh but it's the message is the same the messages uh you need to compete you need to work and you need to play as a team for the team and and you do those things consistently and um you're just gonna have more success individually and as a team so um you know you know I don't think uh I'll put too much into that what you've seen from playing against him yeah I didn't I haven't seen him much again so we didn't play in the last couple years very much being in Florida and uh on Detroit but um yeah he's uh he's got a lot of skill he's quick um just from what I've seen and um his head's always up he's looking to make plays so uh you know I think I'm excited just to get out and compete with him in practice and and help with any questions that he has and uh you know you know offensively obviously it's going to stay out of his way because that's not really not my thing but uh you know it's it's more just yeah just building confidence and and he's got a bright future from for sure you know looking at someone like cam you know could you potentially Envision you setting up a partnership with him kind of similar to the one you have on tour yeah I mean I think um like you said me and money work worked well together because he was so Dynamic and he joined the rush every chance he could love to handle the park and uh yeah and in my role with playing with guys like that is be as predictable as possible talk as much as possible and just make it easy on them to go and do their thing so um like I said I don't know what the parents are going to be I'm not going to speculate on what how that's going to shake out um you know I think communication and is is a massive thing that I think is underutilized especially when you're young is being afraid to call fur pucker or make a play like that and I think that's something you can develop and something that um you know I work on I still work on constantly and try to get everyone to to be as talkative as possible because it makes such a huge difference you may even recall the time in the past in your career where expectations weren't very high and the team kind of surprised yeah I mean um yeah expectations are I mean you could talk all you want I think everyone in our room here and and and then I at the beginning of any season your expectations are to win as many games as possible and push for the playoffs and um just because the the word rebuild is thrown around doesn't mean uh you got to go and lose every other game that's just not the way it works um I mean I was in New York when we kind of you know tore down so to speak and um we kind of were right there uh for that bubble year where I mean we weren't in the playoffs yet but when it got cut short we got in and and so you never know uh how The Season's gonna go it's 82 games it's a lot of work and a lot of hockey and uh we're gonna compete every day and and we'll see how it happens here uh Adam Jenning uh Igor's bowl of Cam New York they've been here for a period of time have you seen them gravitate towards you just just your stature yeah I mean we've only had you know a few scrimmages and some practices but um I got to we did a little golfing last week I got to ride with with Casey in in Yorkie and uh heart artsy and I'm just talking with them and just getting to know them and uh not really too much about hockey just more of life and you're you're you know just getting to know how they got here and and their story on the way here and so um yeah I mean once once we get down into the numbers and we're going to get in into the the swinger things uh I'm excited to keep growing that problem playing as long as you did longer than many of the other guys coming into Camp going to the Stanley Cup Final and signing as a free agent just kind of what was your preparation for this camp like yeah yeah it was short uh I mean for a good reason um and honestly when let's see the older you get the less time off you have is is usually better you know I took took two two and a half three weeks off and kind of started to get moving again and uh it just felt better as going into this Camp just not having that much time off so I feel good physically mentally uh refreshed and ready to go again so um but yeah I mean I'll take that every summer I mean it was it was so much fun last year and and uh just wanted to to let these guys know that that's the best part of playing this game and doing stuff like that so it's something to work for every day and I'm excited to get that started thanks guys
