Jonah Lomu on being an All Black

Jonah the population of New Zealand is only 4.4 million so why are they so great at National level at Rugby Union um I think it's just the it is our national sport um and as I always say to everyone else's you know when if you're a boy and you're born you basically given a rugby ball in nine times out of ten the dad's usually saying you know you're going to be in all black and it's uh you know and it's the it's the country's theme it's not um it's not the players that play in the team it's the country and um you know you could be standing in a supermarket and grandma could be saying to you oh why didn't you pass the ball or you know and things like you know they're giving you advice so you know this is what it this is what it means um it means a lot to the country um you know we we talk about the uh the Prime Minister you know he's happy to be the prime minister of New Zealand but if the All Blacks lose he's still happy to be the prime minister of New Zealand instead of the captain of the All Blacks so you know this is a you know it's the it's the country thing but there's a lot of pressure but actually you had a the games you played in you had a 70 winning margin but the pressure is on the All Blacks everybody wants to beat them the team to beat well I guess it's um I guess it's because uh we do have the best record of of any other team in the professional era or not um you know the you know we won more games than we then we then we lose so you know the pressure is on you but it's also that's what drives a lot of the teams as well especially the all black team um you know you it's their fear of losing um that gets us through a lot of the games but also at the same time [Music] it's trying to keep if you for you to be at the top of the game you you know you gotta you gotta try and look for every single bit of advantage that you can find
