Sunday morning the week after the Democratic Convention what the heck is happening what's happening in the world which way are we going with us this morning is the former speaker new Gage n tell me what's going on what do you think well you know the one of the biggest things that hit me um Kalisa and I had been at the Republican convention both gave speeches there and then watching the Democratic Convention what hit me was how profoundly different they were in their makeup the Republican convention really was Donald Trump's convention uh a populist America first uh mood of changeing Washington and an aggressive desire to get us back to much more of a free enterprise capitalism and away from uh big government socialism was very clear in the Republican convention and you didn't have you could see that the party takeover had really truly been revolutionary you didn't have former President Bush former vice president Cheney former vice president presidential candidate uh Paul Ryan uh you you really had a profound change in the leadership of the Republican Party by contrast I was really struck that the Democratic party was was the machine Gathering uh the very people who had kicked out Biden even though he had won 98% of the delegates um those the bosses got it and you got to hear the bosses you got you got to hear Hillary Clinton you got to hear Bill Clinton you got to hear the Obamas now you got to hear Nancy Pelosi I mean the difference in in the current makeup of the two parties the degree to which the Democrats are now the entrenched party of the old establishment while the Republicans are going through a profound fundamental change I thought it was a very very interesting it it was very interesting uh but half the time I fell asleep because I was either in uh Europe you know Greece time Greek time when I was on vacation or uh when I came home I was still transitioning um give me some of the individuals you and and Bill Clinton uh worked very very closely together and and you guys reduced the uh deficit from 5 a half trillion down to five trillion I give you both credit what did you think of Bill Clinton's speech um I thought the speech was pretty good but he he delivered it as though he was very tired uh you know was you didn't have the fire I mean Clinton used to be one of the best speech makers I'd ever seen and I didn't get that kind of a driving exciting dancing with the crowd that you used to get out of a Clinton speech and that surprised me I thought Hillary actually had more energy and more Drive in her delivery than Bill did and well it wasn't that his speech wasn't technically good he's a very smart guy but he he he didn't have the crowd moving the way he would have had four or eight or 12 years ago um by contrast you know this is clearly still the Obama party I mean they love Michelle they love Barack um they they delivered and interacted much more aggressively um I thought the first night was a little sad in a way and I think I I I sort of sensed that Biden had that same feeling that here are all the people who had knifed him in the back chanting thank you Joe thank you Joe and I think he's probably thinking to himself wait a second if if you like me that much how come I'm not the nominee um and of course he slipped into so late at night that it was almost insulting to have the incumbent president United States not talk until then and then he immediately left got in an airplane and went to California um and I think they were there was a big sigh of relief because they they would like to run a campaign in which they convince you that camela was never actually vice president she had nothing to do with the last four years and uh she agrees with you that they were bad and we have to change which considering that she has been vice president for over 1,300 days it's kind of a remarkable I think Act of huder understood I mean I was um um with Bill Clinton's uh Speech you know how much I love the guy I've been I known him a long time uh I thought I just felt that he wasn't didn't have his heart in it and that was my opinion yeah I mean I think he was going through the motions um he'd been asked to give a speech and and he ran along as usual but that that was a normal Clinton speech uh but I agree I think I think your your instinct is exactly right what what you didn't get from bill was you know a sense that he was engaged and that this mattered to him um and in fact there was a sadness I mean he talked about his age and then he talked about the fact that this might be his last convention uh it was kind of it was kind of a almost a wistful um tone um that I was very struck by I had tears in my eyes when I when he said that this might be my last convention yeah and and you could feel it that I don't know whether he has continuing health problems or a premonition um or just you know that he's tired he he you point out he's been doing this his first convention was 197 72 I mean think about that that that's that means he's he's been coming to conventions for 52 years and uh maybe he's sort of convention out and and President Biden does he realize he got stabbed in the back I mean it's like all the Brutus around him were just you know and um we we were told I don't know if it's true but we were told he still has not talked to NC II and I think he holds the Obamas very directly responsible he thinks that the Obama's pushed him out of the way in 16 for for Hillary and then he thinks that uh they have sort of shoved him out that they basically speaker Pelosi and the Obamas were the key driving force and kicking him out absolutely and one important thing he didn't want to go talking talking about speaker to speaker to speaker to speaker uh the first thing speaker uh McCarthy did uh when he lost the the vote is he went downstairs five minutes later and threw Nancy Pelosi out of her traditional speakers uh office be even though she was not speaker she kept that office does that mean she was still running things things and he was promised that things would go well on on the vote yeah she had told him that they would never side with the the the the guys who wanted to knock him out and then of course she given a chance to knock him out she broke her word and I think he took it you know I mean it's been a weird year in that sense you think about it you have McCarthy who works his heart out earns speakership get stabbed in the back by about eight people then you have Biden who feels like he's the only guy ever to beat Trump and that he's still in pretty good shape and Bam he gets thrown out and not just he gets thrown out but within three or four hours the party bosses have picked kamla and she's clearly going to be the nominee period done no contest no no choice they the Democrats want to talk about protecting democracy they knocked out the incumbent president by a coup and then they turned around and imposed kamla Harris by a coup and the a the average Democrat had nothing to say and no impact understood and uh you know in the old days new our handshakes meant something today I think the handshake in Democratic party means nothing well I think if you do a handshake you better also keep your other hand and free to block the knife that's in the other hand um it's really it's a remarkable period and of course they want to run a campaign now I've been watching with great interest when when she picked walls the the governor Minnesota uh I thought it was one of the weirdest decisions I'd ever seen he is he is the most radical governor in the country uh he he is a guy who is a Serial liar um what there's a new report coming out that back when he first ran for congress he claimed to have gotten an award from the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and they actually wrote him a letter and said you have to take this out of your campaign material it's not true you never got this award and every time you turn around with waltz or something weird you know putting tampons in in boys bathrooms for example um I mean you have to be pretty far to the left to think that um fourth or fifth or sixth grade boys need to have tampons just in case um the whole the whole process of his his unwillingness to use the National Guard letting the City of Minneapolis literally burn um I think there were several hundred stores burned down while he did nothing uh it's it's uh wal is going to turn out to be a huge mistake on on paris's part both because he's uh so totally Dishonored and because he is so far to the left that he accentuates all of our San Francisco radicalism I agree last question we in July the Republicans are way ahead because of what with the convention and everything in early August in the convention the Democrats seemed to start to go ahead and I've told everybody September is coming out time when people are really going to make their decisions and what do you think oh look I I remember in 1988 Michael du caucus came out of the Democratic Convention and he was up by 17 points and Bush just chipped away at how radically was and by election day one of every four Americans had switched and we went from 17 points up for dakus to eight points up for Bush literally a switch of 25% uh as think as people look for example at her tax idea which which would destroy the economy uh I mean if you looked at and and her idea that you're going to tax now you you get all this because you're a great businessman the idea you're going to tax unrealized gains first of all the the bureaucracy you'd have to set up to measure whether or not you had an unrealized gain would be amazing and second that would mean that a company or an individual which had not sold anything could suddenly be hit with a tax for which they had no money because they hadn't sold it and the government would force them to sell it in order to pay the tax based on some bureaucracy's evaluation I mean this kind of stuff will drive money out of the country and drive jobs out of the country absolutely kind of big the kind of big government socialism which has never worked anywhere and I was astonished when she when when Hara gave a speech the Friday before the convention will she show up will she show up for the debate oh sure I mean in fact she'll show up with some confidence she's a prosecutor she's glib um she's willing to lie cheerfully it will actually I think it'll actually be an interesting debate I mean I I I I suspect Trump will win but you never you can't tell but the the problem for the Democrats and I said this before the Trump Biden debate I said I don't care who wins the debate because two l two days later people are going to go into a grocery store and be reminded why they're so mad well shares the same problem all the things that are real the illegal immigration the crime in the streets the price of of of food the the fact we just we just told there are a million fewer jobs than they than they had told us I mean all these different things are real and the debate you know I mean if Trump wins the debate he'll probably go on Crusher but even if she were to win a debate it's very hard for her to get away from the scale of the failure of what was after all the Biden Harris Administration and do she can to pretend she was never vice president but um it's that's a pretty hard sell new kingridge thank you for your input and speaker to speaker to speaker to speaker let's save America thank you very much and we'll catch up again real soon great thank you
