well many of us doubted Jameson Williams over the last two and a half Seasons uh as he was battling back from an ACL injury and last season suspended for gambling and just didn't really get off to a great start when he was able to rejoin the team in 2023 now towards the end of the season Jameson started to show some improvement and then this year in 2024 he really set some lofty goals and man did he explode in week one of the 24 season versus the LA Rams so let's wind this back a little bit and talk about Jameson Williams and why he's the catch me if you can kind of candidate here in 2024 so a week ago on Friday Jameson Williams was down at his old alma mater uh Cardinal Ritter College Prep where uh a writer had had joined the F festivities to kind of meet up with Jameson that night and have a conversation and this is where Jameson Williams kind of let out his secret of his goals and this is he where he said I just want to have the most yards in touchdowns that would be my personal goals out of the whole NFL I want to have the most receiving yards and touchdowns it don't matter about catches because I know what I'm going to do when I get the ball well I don't think that Jameson Williams uh quite expected to have the breakout that he did in week one but let's just talk about that for a moment right five catches 110 yards he's averaging about 24 yards a catch he had a long touchdown of about 52 yards uh to get this game rocking and rolling on Sunday night for Sunday Night Football now he's setting an extremely high standard for himself uh and and when he says that he wants to have the most catch or the most touchdowns in the most yards I think he just proved it right I think he just proved it doesn't matter how many catches you get it depends on what you can do with the Y A the yards after the catch and uh man he is lightning in a bottle right now I mean the kid is so fast you give him any any sliver of space at all any daylight and he's going to take that rock to the house and uh that's what he did on Sunday night for one touchdown through the air from Jared gof uh so setting a high standard right he had 50 receiving yards in three career games uh so far uh and and for sake of reference according to this article last season Tyreek Hill finished with 1,799 yards or an average of 105.8 per game J he got 110 in his first game so he's he's on Pace right now to H 1800 yards on the season now these expectations uh you know for a huge jump for Williams in 2024 would far exceed what many of us are expecting of Jameson Williams to perform here in 2024 I have been on record saying that if he can somehow get to 80 balls 80 80 reception yards and eight touchdowns I think that that is a great Baseline for Jameson Williams but now I'm starting to wonder if man can he get to 12200 1400 1,600 on less than 80 catches well I think the math kind of proves it right if right now he's gone for uh 110 divided by five you know 22 yards a catch if he were to catch 80 balls that's 17 60 yards on the season if that number were to remain consistent with that average uh now the Detroit Lions entered 2024 believing that Jameson Williams was ready to make a giant leap and the wide out really blasted off uh on Sunday night in what was a 26 to 20 overtime victory over the LA Rams where David Montgomery obviously led the way there in overtime now former first round pick Jameson Williams pick number 12 overall uh Brad Holmes moved up quite a bit uh to make sure that they could snag this kid uh generated a career-high 121 receiving yards on five catches and a touchdown uh the 52 yard score in which he torched the federan corner travius white was also a career long for Jameson Williams if you remember in 2023 he had uh I think a pair of 45 yard touchdowns from jerich go uh now jamos said this he said this is just game one uh like I said said I put in a lot of work I expected to have a big game me personally I expect to have a big game I guess it's it's just big to the world just CU it's my first one but I plan to have a lot more I don't plan on this being my best game of my career I plan on this just being the start of me being me man that's exciting like it kind of gives you a little uh Goose pimples if you will thinking about just how exciting Jameson Williams is going to be in a game that we saw am man R Brown pretty much held out of the contest we saw Sam L pora pretty much held up both of them ghosted in this game and JL stepped up now I would say that the lions are still missing that ex receiver somebody that can fill in the gaps uh and help this team in a pinch when you know they are having a difficult time getting the ball to am man R st brown or Sam leaport but what I will say is the extra attention that was given to am manra St Brown in Sam lorta sure did open the window for Jameson Williams to fly right through it downfield and get this game started off in the right direction now before Sunday night's explosion Williams career high was 69 yards uh which came on two catches versus Dallas in week 17 so what a big turnaround for Jameson Williams so far in the 2024 season uh even Tim 20an had a few things to say where Jameson Williams had made a lot of big plays and had had a ton of big games over his football career especially in Alabama uh but he said after Sunday's 26 to2 win over La in the season open opener that the Sunday night game ball he received was his first man I I couldn't believe this J got his first game ball here in his third NFL season he didn't win a game ball earn a game ball if you will uh at all before this uh so man huge shout out to J for for you know having a couple of Firsts here in this big win over La um J had this to say I never got a game ball not at Alabama not nowhere I'm not even going to lie this right here might not leave my hands I might sleep holding it well that's kind of a a fun thought there uh he's super excited about the little things right the little things that are big accomplishments there's nothing better than J Mo's smile when this kid is smiling man you know he's having fun and when he's having fun he can play the way that he showed us on Sunday night that he can play which is absolute electricity uh a lightning bolt of speed man he just so fun to watch uh so difficult uh to stay in front of you know or mirror match or hip with these cornerbacks and safeties they're going to have to figure out a way to stop this kid and I don't know if there's going to be with the way that this Detroit Lions offense uh is so loaded with Talent at every uh every position um K Dan Campbell was excited too and he had this to say he showed up that was a big game the best about it is he didn't even play his best ball there's still so much to clean up but it also shows the work he's put in and he's improving and he's an improved player and he wants it man he's working on it and he keeps taking these steps now like I said this was a game where the Rams defense really tried to take wide receiver Aman Rasin Brown out of the game and they did a pretty darn good job at doing that um and they also did the same thing with Sam La pora so it it's paid off huge dividends uh on Sunday night that Jameson has taken this game seriously he has even welcomed the fact that he was immature in his first two seasons uh that he wasn't ready that he wasn't putting the work in that Teddy Bridgewater really helped to reframe and reshape his mentality about what to do uh and how to be an NFL player and how to be a better teammate and it's all coming to fruition right now for Jameson Williams on the football field and for your Detroit Lions man this is going to be an exciting season I can't wait to see more out of Jameson Williams here in week two versus the Tampa Bay Bucks go get them J J Mo wayl time [Music]
