Intro welcome back to the hot tip as daily pics show for monday january 31st back with some more college basketball action for today and sunday and really the weekend as a whole was not great for us cleveland state ends up blowing their lead in the second half um which seems like i don't know how many times at this point this season i've had teams blow second half leads um umass on the other hand didn't even get out of bed this morning didn't show up at all um ended up going 0-2 for sunday's picks but got some more action here for monday so let's jump Morehead State vs Tennessee Tech now the first game i want to take a look at for monday's card morehead state taking on tennessee tech or state comes into this game 16 and six on the season tennessee tech is five and 15 and four more head state you know 130th and kim palm 154 in the hot debate rankings tennessee tech struggled with a little bit more 265 and kept and they're actually 306 in the hot to bear rankings and both these teams actually come into this game off of losses morehead state lost their first conference game of the season on saturday at murray state and while they played a pretty competitive game especially in the first half and really even you know first half of the second half um they played all right they do end up you know letting it slip away at the end they don't cover that game actually um which was a little bit upsetting to me we were on more head state in that game but they were still competitive honestly they were a shot away a if you missed murray state free throws away from covering there and they've been a strong team in ohio valley play they have a good win over belmont a few weeks ago and tennessee tech is just not a great basketball team i mean they lost to austin p at home on saturday a bad loss to say the least and really they don't have a great win this entire season only three d1 wins to speak of the best one coming against lipscomb currently sitting at 272nd in kim pump so not a whole lot to go for for tennessee tech and one area they've really struggled this season is shooting the basketball junior clay is their leader with only 11.9 points per game keyshawn davidson right behind him with 10.3 points per game but overall tennessee tech just does not have the best shooters only a 47.8 effective field goal percentage they're only hitting 30.3 from beyond the arc as well as 65.5 percent of their free throws and we look over to morehead state they've actually done a pretty decent job shooting the ball this season johnny boom leads them and scoring with 16.3 points per game trey hollowell is also dropping 11.9 points per game and overall they have been at least a better shooting team um than tennessee tech in a pretty decent shooting team overall a 53.1 effective field goal percentage him 37.5 percent from beyond the arc as was 67.3 percent of their free throws in it is that shooting for morehead state that has really made them look so so good on the offensive side of the ball they're 129th and adjusted offensive efficiency according to ken palm compare that to tennessee tech who's definitely had some struggles 264th interested offensive efficiency but tennessee tech also struggles on the defensive side of the ball 242 there um one more heads date 116th and just a defensive efficiency according to kim pum so moorhead state a fairly significant edge on both offense and defensive efficiency and wondering that morehead state has done really well on the defensive side of the ball um is their shot defense they've held teams to a 48.6 effective field goal percentage of the season 126 in the country in that category tennessee's text shot defense has been pretty horrible they're allowing a 53.5 effective field goal percentage and both these teams rebounding wise are actually kind of similar they're both decent on the offensive glass morehead state pulling down 31.2 percent off the offensive glass 97th in the country tennessee tech pulling down 31.5 percent um 89th in the country and offensive rebounding um but the defense really for both of them isn't great morehead's a little bit better a 70.6 defensive rebounding percentage 220th in the country tennessee tech has really struggled a 68.3 defensive rebounding percentage 300th in the country in that category honestly when we just look at these teams from from afar i mean morehead state obviously has the much much stronger team in general a much better shooting team and they're a team that is competitive enough to contend with murray state even though they just lost in belmont um near the top of the ohio valley and you flip that over to tennessee tech and they're really a team that's fighting to stay out of the basement of the ohio valley in the moment one thing to note for this game these teams are actually going to be playing again thursday night um at moorhead state so a quick turnaround for these ones um but i still think morehead state comes out victorious in this game ends their you know road trip here with a win over tennessee tech so give me more head state minus five here against tennessee tech Eastern Washington vs Weber State the second game i got for monday's card eastern washington taking on weber state eastern washington comes into this game 11 and 10. weber state is 16 and five and we were saying has been a pretty strong basketball team this season 121st and kim pomp 111 in the hot tip at rankings eastern washington a little bit lower 203 and kim palm 167 in the hot tub rankings but we were obviously just fading this eastern washington team on sunday and they end up making us pay um they hung around with montana end up losing that game but only by two points there were six point dogs um going into that one so you know get the cover there not the win and that's kind of in the story for a little bit of what eastern washington has done i mean they haven't played absolutely horrible i mean they obviously have that big win over washington state earlier in the season but outside of that game they don't have the wins to really back anything up their best win outside of washington state is the portland state who's currently the 300th overall team in the country um so they just don't necessarily have the the before shea the whatever that's gone with him for this season weber state on the other hand has been a very very hot team um this season 6-0 in their last six games they're also nine and one hero to start conference play and um while they have sort of struggled against you know the marquee teams they really do tend to beat up on bad teams pretty badly i mean a big reason why cody mcewen leading this weaver state team in scoring was 17.3 points per game dylan jones also dropping 12.9 points per game for weaver state and overall weber has been a great shooting team this season a 54.1 effective field goal percentage and 35.2 percent from beyond the arc as well as 73.7 percent of their free throws and that's not to say that eastern washington is a horrible shooting team because there's definitely worse shooting teams out there but um overall they rank a little bit lower i mean still verse does lead them in scoring with 16.8 points per game lit and a seal also dropping 15.8 for eastern washington but only a 50.5 effective field goal percentage overall three points been about the same 35.6 um and as well as the free throws hitting 76.5 but weber state is definitely the stronger team on the offensive side of the ball in this game their 87th adjusted offensive efficiency compared to eastern washington 166. um weaver also has the stronger defense 170th adjusted defensive efficiency according to ken palm well eastern washington 226 and you know the really what weaver has done so well um holding on to the basketball they just create a lot of opportunities for themselves they're only turning it over on 15.6 percent of their possessions their 33rd in the country in that category and they really do a good job forcing their opponents to give them the ball um forcing a 21 turnover percentage 61st in the country in that category that's one area especially on the defensive side of the ball that eastern washington could look to improve they're only forcing turnovers on 16.6 of their possessions um they're 302nd in the country in that category really eastern washington outside of that washington state game hasn't done much this season they haven't shown that they can hang with better teams and i think going into their third game here on the road trip they're going to be tired they're going to be worn out and i really don't think they come to hank here against a weber state team that really has just been beating up on bad big west teams here for the better part of a month
