Now overnight, severe storms toppled trees leading to a mess for electric companies. Power knocked down for tens of thousands of people and many are still without it tonight. XL Energy says that crews are busy working to get it restored but says that it could be days until everyone sees the lights come back on Jessica Hart talked to some people who are still trying to clean up as they now battle the heat. This is some of the damage near the ST Louis Park Recreation Center. We have a down tree right near this road, but despite all of this damage, it hasn't stopped people from enjoying their Sunday, Gus Whittington and Emily Andrews drive from northeast to Saint Louis Park to play pickleball. It just gets us outside and moving and something to do together. The court looks the same but beyond the fence is a different story. The holy crap moment. Yeah. The fallen trees and debris. And we didn't realize it had been that bad. Yeah, we didn't realize it had been this severe in other parts of the city. Overnight storms hit the twin cities, hard down trees, blocked roads and tree limbs cover the sidewalks. It hasn't been like this before. Jake Masonic and his dog Nelly live close to Wolf Park and Saint Louis Park. I mean, we like to go on these paths. And so our, our route had to change because some of these trees are down. It happens, you know, it's Mother nature, mother nature is not always nice. She also took many people's power. My power went out for a second. We saw about 135,000 customers impacted with outages. We're approaching about two thirds of those restored right now. John Marshall with Excel Energy says crews are working to restore that power. We've got about 1250 crew linemen and support staff overall, a really big army out there restoring power right now. We should have all customers or mostly all customers restored by end of day tomorrow. Monday, the heat brings more urgency to their mission. He says most of the outages are in the West Metro and they'll be keeping an eye on potential storms tonight in ST Louis Park, Jessica Hart Caro le knew.
