is Pete Alonzo the best position player in Mets history Pete Alonzo is quickly entering the conversation as to who is the greatest position player in Mets franchise history and you talk about just home runs darl strawberry 252 David Wright 242 Pete Alonzo now 221 you look at some other statistics Pete Alonzo is six all time in in RBI in team history he is third in slugging percentage among players that have had at least, 1500 at bats as a member of the New York Mets you want to go back to the home run total 2020 they only played 60 ball games in 2020 so pet Alonzo missed out on 100 games if he had those 100 games he probably you can make the argument has 15 20 more home runs and he's closing in on David Wright for second all time and then you consider this pet Alonzo came up in 2019 this is only year six and he has already put himself in the category and the company that we are talking about so obviously Pete's facing a free agency here this this offseason we don't know if Pete Alonzo will be a met or not be a met but we do know if Pete Alonzo is a met going forward he will take that number one spot without a doubt 100% he's only 32 home runs away from that moment right now and he's only one home run away from right now having his fifth 30 home run plus season and that would be the most in met history hey we're not meeting at the Apple today whatsoever we are meeting at Coca-Cola Park the home of the uh the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs because John and I just went to talk to Brandon Sprout uh Dick Scott and also who else did we talk to Luke Ritter and Luke Ritter so we came out here for the day to get some minor Le good views and then when the Mets game ended we were so hyped up we said we're just recording the podcast right now because we want our most authentic reaction to be showed to the you know what I feel like I feel like one of those like Fox pregame no we're doing we're doing a sideline hit right in front of the stadium no no not the pregame like when you see like the when you see like aod A-Rod Jeter and all them like will be standing on the field talking like that's us right now with I I don't know what to do with my hands my feet we're standing we don't usually I can barely walk we got PA announcements going on right now but we also have a huge met series Victory to talk about the Mets take two or three from the Diamondbacks the first time the Diamondbacks have lost a series in Arizona since the end of June so the Mets had the gauntlet four in San Diego three in Arizona say what you guys want ifs and buts and all that four and three through the first seven games three looming in Chicago you would have taken that you would have taken that if we told you a week ago you would have taken that it was uh quite an eventful week in Arizona for sure ups and downs and swings left and right but the Mets had the final laugh a 3 to2 victory in Arizona on Thursday Edwin Diaz closing things out easy one two three inning some huge moments to talk about oh we're going to get to our top five moments there's a live see that we're in we're in the elements we got a live Philly fit we're actually rooting for the Phillies this week we need we need some help see guys this is why we did this because is he fire I don't know what he's wearing I don't have my contacts in right now I don't even know where I am it says Lehigh Valley but I see Allentown on the Google Map yeah that's also an interesting thing so what do you want to start with V you want to do a top five moments of the series I would love to do that let's do top five moments of Mets diamond back this is the fives this is the fives I'm David Sterns and this is the fives number five Harrison baders game tying home run even though the game didn't end in a Mets Victory you're staying up late for a Mets night game a Mets late night game you're kind of out of it you're like you know what it's 10:30 Mets just gave up four runs I'm going to go to sleep wake up no I didn't do that John I stayed up and you know what I'm glad I stayed up because seeing Harrison Bader Step Up tie the game with that home run and then the Mets actually take the lead that's what you want to see from a team and you've said this every week on the podcast you said I would rather go into the eighth inning leading the game than trailing the game and that just shows you the Mets have fight and they have that 2015 uh no lead is safe Mets five and as we've also talked about the Mets coming back making Arizona get into their Bullpen and use a bunch of pitchers that maybe were unavailable for T to lell on Thursday so that was Big and of course Harrison Bader with a huge hit you guys know how clutch he's been all year the big game time go ahead hits sixth inning or later this season another big hit for Harrison Bader who's gotten hot on this road trip bigit Bader had the Home Run uh in San Diego on Saturday night home run on on Wednesday I know he didn't break up the perfect game but he's the guy I feel two moments this year there were no hitters or Perfect Games comes up he takes it away this time he didn't take it away but he did take the lead away he did so that's number five big hit for Harrison Bader also looking cool in the seagan stable collection ads dude when doesn't Harrison Bader look cool he's the coolest all right what's number four we have real we have different energy when we're doing this I think we should do it more like this all the time this is fun out the elements another PA announcement live on the podcast all right what's number four number four of Mets Diamondbacks is that game one fifth inning rally so you got alvie have a big moment you have Jeff mcneel Tyrone Taylor Brandon nmo alvie again just the boys were hot and you know what's contagious hits hits is in fact agous and Francisco Alvarez has H especially after the catcher interference I believe in the bottom half the inning that led to the top half that you're talking about he takes a bat off the thumb and once again we're all worried about the health but he looks totally fine starts the inning with a hit and like you said the Mets rally they give sha manah all the Run support they need we'll talk more about Shawn and another brilliant outing for the Lefty who has been one of the best pitchers in baseball going back more than a month now yeah Alvi had two shakeup moments in the series because he also had that moment where he got hit in the four off um but rebounded quickly looked great and you know this is what I think Steve GBS or one of the broadcasters are talking about this on the um on the broadcast but alv is a guy who apparently never understood why guys would get in their head and they would have these moments where they were doubting themselves he would always say what are you doing why you're doubting yourself you're a big leager and he said this experience of facing adversity and really having to be challenged for the first time in his career is has been incredibly important to him and that he's learned a lot about himself and just what he could be as a ball player yeah Mets fans worried about Francisco Alvarez there's nothing to worry about kid is still just 22 years old there are guys playing in this Stadium right behind us tripa ball game that are much older than him that still haven't made the big leagues I'm not talking about guys that are maybe 4 a players or guys that have debuted and gone back and forth Francisco Alvarez is a stud huge moments for him on Tuesday night helping the Mets with a victory what's number three number three is from game three and it's the Jose eaus go-ahead hit in the top of the ninth inning Jose glacia has been a guy this year that has come up and changed everything that you could describe about the Mets he brings Aura he brings Vibes he brings charting singles and he also has brought some really impressive hits I go back and I think about that um that walk he had back Inman against the r the Chapman that we talked about yeah I mean SNY flashed it he has been money with runners in scoring position two outs and runners in scoring position here on Thursday picking up the runner on third with two outs a massive hit you mentioned charting singles I mean how about just big singles left and right stealing bases uh and we talked with Dick Scott today manager of the triaa uh Mets Syracuse Mets and the impact that uh Jose has had on so many young players that were here he talked about the work he did with Mark Vientos we know all about that so you guys know it we've talked about it all year the impact that Jose has had in the clubhouse on the field Latin music charts you name it it's been an incredible 2024 for Jose glaus and Thursday proved that the story is not done yet he continues to write stories he continues or continues to write his story and continues to add to the legendary year that he has been having another giant moment helps the Mets win a huge game he also is the most dramatic at bats and I've said this before of anybody I've seen strike and he's tough to strike out that's tough to strike out and just the movements like always always takes a running uh swing always is running towards first base after his swing and just like the the movements likees I I wanted to say that ygy shuffle it's a mini it's a mini stto Shuffle it's not the full stto Shuffle where you're really getting down did you see the little leag world series by the way I did we all the Canadian kids I did I did I did the thing about Jose is he is so confident when he's in the Batters box and he has such a a command of the strike zone and that helps him not striking out that much he doesn't swing and miss that often where where did his season start started with Syracuse start with Syracuse Mets and we learned from a lot of guys today that Jose was an incredibly important part of these guys uh years this year absolutely all of them said that he would talk to them I mean you'll see this interview we did with Luke Ritter but Luke Ritter said Jose used to go up to him every day and say what's your strategy today what are you thinking and they would actually talk about it but let's move on number two of Mets Diamondbacks bottom of the seventh inning David Peterson trying to get an extra inning out of him what's he do has Runners on first and third with one out gives us a beautiful double play you know why because when David Peterson's on the mound thanks for que me up it's a bad day to be a worm and that was especially the case for the worms in Arizona on Thursday David Peterson 11 ground balls two double play balls in the outing another huge start and what a moment for David um you know the camera kept cutting to The Dugout Carlos Mendoza Jeremy Hefner on the top step you're wondering are they going to make the move there was action in The Met Bullpen Randall gritch the number two hitter who had gone yard against David earlier in the game was at the dish and David does what he does so well induces a ground ball Jose glaus a clean scoop throws to Second for one on the first double play David Peterson Rewards his manager for having the confidence in him to stick with him in a big spot the Mets allow are run there you don't know how things turn out Arizona's probably manage Tor lll is probably managing its Bullpen a little bit different if they take the lead into the eighth and Ninth Innings so a massive moment for David Peterson who I mentioned this to you before and Hunter before we started recording if David Peterson had not missed the first six to eight weeks of the Season whatever it was this is a guy who would be in the sa young discussion at this point he has been that good in the continue to win in game started by David Peterson they are now 13 and2 this is stopper type numbers and I'm talking like if a team's struggling a little bit he's taking the mound that's your stopper you know you're getting a dou a w and we've seen it with Shawn Mani the Mets having all sort sort of success they've won six of the last seven games started by Shawn David Peterson same exact thing only two walks once again in control another massive massive outing and kudos to Carlos Mendoza pushing the right button once again and it's the decision paying off number one it's an easy one history history history it's actually two moments but we're putting it in a one yes Pete Alonzo ties and then overtakes Mike Pat's spot on the Mets all-time home run list and pet Alonzo becomes number three behind Daryl strawberry and David Wright two of obviously the most electric most famous most legendary most important Mets of all time yeah I mean you know we talked about Arizona and lot of Mets have had great numbers in Arizona Francisco Lindor the Mets in general over the years especially recent times have handled the Diamondbacks well and all that came to fruition in this series and Pete Alonzo going to right center field uh on Tuesday night for the home run and then straightaway Center on Thursday you love to see that I know Keith Hernandez mentioned that when Pete is going to right field to center field he is right he's starting to really heat up I told you guys pet lonzo's best baseball in 2024 it's ahead of him he's putting this team on his back and we talked about this there is no Pace with Pete Alonzo as you saw in this series two home runs from Pete Pete is not a guy you could look at a number and say he'll probably hit x amount of home runs because he's hit this many pet Alonzo is a guy who next week against the White Sox who knows how many home runs he could hit this weekend and the next week going forward because pet Alonzo is just built different he's built different great series for pet Alonzo and for him to take over sole possession of third place and he's talked about it he grew up watching Mike Piaza we grew up watching idolizing him for him to join the Mets and you know the two big Power hitters we know that Piaza was in spring training a couple years ago and Pete and Mike got to spend some time together and they've definitely forged a relationship over the years um you know for all Mets fans for Pete to move in third place all time in team history behind the two guys that you talked about darl strawberry whose number was retired this year and David Wright who we know will have his number uh retired eventually by the New York Mets Pete Alonzo has now entered the conversation I have a question for you Jo yes is Pete Alonzo the best position player in Mets history Pete Alonzo is quickly entering the conversation as to who is the greatest position player in Mets franchise history and you talk about just home runs Daryl strawberry 252 David rght 242 Pete Alonzo now 221 you look at some other statistics Pete Alonzo is six all time in in RBI in team history he is third in slugging percentage among players that have had at least 1,500 at bats as a member of the New York Mets you want to go back to the home run total 2020 they only played 60 ball games in 2020 so pet Alonzo missed out on 100 games if he had those 100 games he probably you can make the argument has 15 20 more home runs and he's closing in on David Wright for second all time and then you consider this pet Alonzo came up in 2019 this is only year six and he has already put himself in the category and the company that we are talking about so obviously Pete's facing a free agency here this this offseason we don't know if Pete Alonzo will be a met or not be a met that's to come but we do know if Pete Alonzo is a met going forward he will take that number one spot without a doubt 100% he's only 32 home runs away from that moment right now and he's only one home run away from right now having his fifth 30 home run plus season and that would be the most in met history and pet Alonzo also just one more thing about pet Alonzo you want to compare somebody you want to put somebody up with Elite company right no player in Major League Baseball has hit more home runs than pet Alonzo since he debuted than one guy the Bronx named Aaron judge and if you got to be on a number two list of somebody Aaron judge is pretty Elite company He Is We all need to appreciate what we're watching with pet Alonzo it's special he's a homegrown Talent the Mets took him out of the University of Florida he is one of our own and here's my favorite part about Pete Alonzo the Dude shows up every single day every day no matter what happens no matter how bad it looked when he got hit when he fell face first into the Dugout looked like he almost broke his nose you know what he did he got up he finished the game and then he also played the next day when Pete Alonzo got hit in the arm like last year looked like he was going to be out for a few weeks you know what he did work Little cast for a little bit of time and he got back out there you know why Pete Alonzo loves playing baseball and he loves hitting home runs for Mets fans he's a gamer and you just said it he loves hitting home runs for Mets fans I always say in all walks of life the best ability is availability he do pet Alonzo is at first base each and every single night we are lucky to have witnessed what we've seen the last six years it has been an incredible 6 years pet Alonzo truly is one of if not the best best position players in the history of the Mets and Thursday was an iconic day for Pete Alonzo who now sits alone in third place passing who you we we both grew up in the same era yeah it was two guys for us it was David Wright number five and it was Mike Piaza number 31 and pet Alonzo was right there very category he's literally going through the Mets Arrow tour he has to pass Mike Piaza he has to pass David wght he has to pass Daryl strawberry if you're a Mets fans I mean those are those are the three biggest eras I mean look I mean obviously you have the' 60s but we're talking about the three biggest erors of like recent memory right guys that we've grown up seeing highlights of like the Met's most I would say 86 Mets are the most famous team uh team in this franchise's history 100% for Pete Alonzo to just be going through collecting the Infinity Stones like Thanos of Home Run leaders you're a big infinity stone guy I feel like you talk about Infinity Stones a lot you mention them a lot saying collecting Infinity Stones is just a thing at this point no that's a reference you make call but I set you up for your references I don't call I don't say hey I'm not saying it's a bad thing hey look at John stupid worm thing I raised my Kings up I didn't say it was a bad thing I was just pointing something out we got to move on to more things because we are losing daylight out here the the lights are on at Coca-Cola Park and uh by the way if you are a Mets fan and the Syracuse Mets are here in Lehigh Valley make the trip out it's only 2 hours away it's a little bit easier than that Syracuse trip definitely we have that light that light just went on we have we have light thank you thank you guys and it's a beautiful Ballpark and um just really really fun to come here for the day and uh big thank you to Michael from the Syracuse Mets yes definely incredibly helpful but I want to play a voicemail and we only have time for one so guys thank you for all your voicemails I'm sorry that we don't get to more it's just we have a limited amount of time on these podcasts so I'm going to play this one hey the Mets won the series they're also going to win the World Series Mets in four God bless I think that Mets fans are energized right now and for a good reason look we we started this road trip everyone for a while now even when we wrapped up the first half we talked about this road trip in particular and San Diego and Arizona and we know both those teams got incredibly hot to start the second half they both kind of uh catapulted themselves to the first and second Wild Card spots things could have gotten dicing we know the Braves have been red hot as well despite all the injuries that they've suffered but I think we could say this the Braves are probably due for a little bit of regression for the Mets to earn this Victory on Thursday in Arizona this was not a disaster by any means as we said earlier in the show as we as we said earlier in the show four and three in the seven games through San Diego and Arizona I I think that everyone would have signed for that before the the trip started and now the Mets go to Chicago take on the white socks we know there are no easy games there's no guaranteed this might be guaranteed raid field but there's no guaranteed wins in baseball there are no guaranteed wins in baseball that was a very good one I like that a lot thank you man um the Mets have to go and take care of business in Chicago but they get a little bit of help from the Phillies this weekend the Mets better the Mets can return back home the city field in a really good spot and we both know the Mets have seven games left with with the Phillies we're going to Wawa right after this to get hogies to pipe the boys in Philly up because we need some Philly wins this weekend I'm going to get that to in a fish sub I'm going to get that Italian hogy seven with the Phillies three with the Braves and if for nothing else we just learned right here the Mets can go on the road and they could handle anybody because no one is playing better ball in MLB forget the national league than the Arizona Diamondbacks entering this series so a job well done by the Mets and that's why fans are are buzzing right now talking about the world series two out of three games you know what Mets gave everybody free fries free fries so I mean what a job we're pumped that's why we were like you know what we're doing this right now let's get into it and uh we don't want to sit in the car for 2 and 1 half hours and then go back and then record that we wanted to be as pumped up as we are because we're not going to lie to you we were recording an interview with the laptop in the background and not just an interview we're talking with Brandon spro the number one Prospect in the system and that's when David Peterson threw the two ball and I'm like first and third one out I'm like I wouldn't say we were like distracted no you know but we had the game in the background Vision we were paying attention because we care about you guys we just want you to know that we're always watching we're always watching unless it's the unless it's the west coast of Theon no need to out me for that I watched a lot of baseball just want to say guys we made it through no more late night games we did it until until maybe the LCS against the Dodgers but they still do yeah they still no the Mets in 2015 played 10:00 did they play 10:00 oh they played 10:00 you know what you're right I remember watching it at Brass Monkey I watched they play 10:00 they play 10:00 but anyway uh great series for the Mets and sea manah David Peterson leading the way Shawn manah how good has Shawn Mania been veto Shawn maniah has been one of the best pitchers in baseball and we'll probably do a future episode about this but sha manay is probably the biggest steal of the MLB off season look forward to that being a title on the thumbnail in a few weeks the four scen fastball I know we talked about this after the start against the Orioles continues to be not just a weapon for Shawn but one of the best pitches in all of baseball opponent hitting just 169 against this four seam fast a top 15 Mark amongst pitchers with at least 75 plate appearances that have ended with the pitch we know about the sweeper and even though I think that the formula is kind of out there with Shawn fast ball up at the eyes sweeper down and into the righty uh down to the righty down and away from the Lefty changing the uh the the eye vision of hitters it doesn't matter he is still dominating and beating hitters 11 strikeouts on Tuesday night that match to season high so Sean continues to roll like I said the Mets have won six of their last seven games with Shawn on the bump a 298 ra what what a move what an acquisition by this New York Mets front office 100% we go to Chicago this weekend Jose Katana gets to play at his old home ballpark yes got important starts from Sha manah and Tyler McGill Friday gets to make his big return to the Met starting rotation this is a big game for Tyler Mill and we've seen Tyler Mill come up from Triple A and having a great debut start correct we have and uh a few starts to go here with triple A syrac 11 strikeouts and seven and 2/3 Innings of work so tyor has had success down here at AAA he'll be back on the bump uhoh car well no they turned the lights off so we're good uh Tyler will be back on the the audio only listeners that was an ambulance that an ambulance and then like you mentioned Jose canana back in his old digs he did Pitch there in 2020 as a visitor so returning once again no fans no fans might not be that much returning once again to Guaranteed Rate and then it'll be Shawn manah and David Peterson I mean what more can we say about David Peterson maybe we said all we can say I think we've look I think we've said enough today we're losing daylight we wanted to do this episode for you as quick as we could call that number leave us a message let us know how you're feeling Mets fans what are you thinking for the rest of the season what's your Mets math what do you think that number is oh yeah let's talk about the Mets math the Mets after this we'll wrap it up with this 70 and 64 to get to the 87 win mark the Mets have to go 17 and 11 the rest of the way mention the Braves how hot they've been they've moved their projected win total based on their current winning percentage to 89 wins so are you Phillies fans or Met's fans what are you guys Phil Phillies go Phillies Braves you know yeah um the Mets who have those three games head-to-head with the Braves we know those games are all two game swing so the Mets still in full control of their Destiny here the Mets still in a good spot six games over 500 heading to the south side of Chicago the Mets have not been there since late July early August 2019 if you remember that's when Jeff mcneel made that catch going into the uh The netting there Michael conforto had a big home run in the late Innings I think it was Extra Innings in Chicago so it's been a while since the Mets have been to the Southside business to be taken care of this weekend and we will be back on Sunday my birthday by the way Sunday's your birthday yeah amazing September 1st se you know what I I forgot that this weekend was Labor Day it's Labor Day weekend Labor Day feel like Labor Day weekend celebrate Labor Day with us the Mets go from White Socks to Red Sox to Reds ah yep the the the progression yeah anyway what could be after that blue J they go to Toronto they go to Canada and they wear red in Canada on Canada Day not Canada Day Blue Jays would be the next pression another color red blue that's why I said the Blue Jays would be the next progression yep and then they go to the Phillies yeah so a lot of do they go to Toronto after the Reds yeah oh so wait they literally are it's it keeps going yeah they go to Toronto this is crazy I don't know schedule maker call in the number let us know did you do that on purpose what's the deal buddy all right John we got to get out of here got back to New York right now my car is literally right here we're about to load it up and get out of here thank you for listening to meet at the Apple I'm on Twitter at vof KES he's on Twitter at jmb 9191 let us know what do you think of this episode you like it out in the wild yeah should we do this outside City Field or should we keep our nice cushy podcast Studio that I do prefer cuz my ankle is swollen it's hard to stand let's go Mets uh and you know what let's go Phillies this weekend weird to say but I I'm with you we're at a Phillies ballpark that's the main reason I'm saying it all right waah wa
