Zach Braff | Bad Monkey | Reuniting with Scrubs boss Bill Lawrence | Twenty Years of Garden State

It's a Goonies reference, right? That is all right, so it is. All right. Good. congratulations on the show. Thank you. you've worked with Bill for, a few years now, and he seems to have this ability to get such amazing people to to work with, both in front of and behind the camera, having worked for him for so many years. What's the what's the lure of Bill Lawrence and why? Why does he continually get these amazing people? He's got Harrison Ford in a TV show. I know I directed three of those. he's he's really good, man. He's, he's obviously incredibly talented, and he's got great taste. And, I don't know, man. He's he he he just keeps taking on more and more. I don't know how the man multitask like he does, but, I think of, you know, I knew back in 2000 that I was lucky to, to get on board with him. And, and I think now everyone in the world is trying to get their own Bill Lawrence show. so he just it's really, he's just a savant. Yeah, but you guys, obviously you did scrubs, which I'll be a little bit unprofessional in his interview, because you're one of my favorite people as well. Oh, thank you, brother. One of my one of my favorite things in the whole. My favorite show in the whole wide world when you did it back then with him. What's a piece of advice that he gave you back then? That you still hope you're still glad he gave to you now, given all the stuff you've managed to do in between, and maybe you wouldn't have been able to do that without that piece of advice. There's so many things. I mean, he really was a Big Brother mentor to me, through my whole career. I mean, he gave me notes on Garden State. He he, you know, when we when we, when I worked on Lasso, and now I'm working on shrinking, he continues to to give me, great advice. I think I think really just, one thing he does that's wonderful is he creates an environment on set that's really safe. There's no there's no wrong answer. No one's going to laugh at you. No one's going to, say you're wrong. Just just try things. And it's like. It's like a tightrope walker having a net. You. Yeah, you might, it might, you might go too big and we won't use it. You might be, you might overact. We won't use it but have that freedom to play. He creates that environment. And that's such a wonderful place for actors because you know that he's going to be the one who's going to cut it together. He's only going to pick what's good. And so it takes out the it lets you get out of your head a little bit and really, really, have have courage. I'm saying this opportunity, if I may. you've been talking about it recently. It's 20 years. It's Garden State, which is a film that means the world to me. Another thing that you've done that means the world to me. And it's got me out of so many of so many jams and vines, it and all that kind of stuff. That film, 20 Emmys, 20 years, and that film continues to find audiences analysis on streaming and younger audiences, are getting to it. Are you still kind of pinching yourself every day when you like to take five minutes to yourself? And just like how how is this? I can't film that you almost didn't get to make. I can't believe it. I mean, not a day goes by where I don't encounter someone. I mean, first of all, thank you for what you said, but it really, it's like now more than ever. I don't know if it's running on HBO or something, but like it, it's running somewhere. But now more than ever, every day someone comes up to me and says something so meaningful about it. so it's just the gift that keeps on giving. It's something that was so impossible to get made, and we got it made. And now 20 years later, I'm still hearing that, that having such an impact on on people's lives. So I just feel so lucky. Yeah. I'm glad I've been doing this job for seven years, and I finally managed to talk to you about two of my favorite things in the entire world, and you so of my heart. Thank you for your time and thank you, brother. You made my day. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you. Ladies and gentlemen, you are watching. Hey, you guys. Yeah, you guys are you guys? I That's what they all say. You guys. Hey, guys.
