um so when people are on these glp1 medications just talking more about the nutrition and what you do as a health coach um what are specific things they should be focused on maybe just like the basics of what they should be focused on um when it comes to nutrition while on these medications right so it's very important to have um a couple of principles in mind when people are taking The glp1 Agonist um so prioritizing protein is is very very important so why is why is protein the most important thing while in these medications so protein is so important because we want to make sure that our clients are losing the right weight we want to make sure that they're changing their body composition in a healthy way that they're losing body fat and that they're holding on to their lean muscle mass and that's a big priority for us and so we're promoting um prioritizing protein making sure that they f Focus meals around protein and protein is one of the most satiating macronutrients so the medication is actually doing that um by supporting a pathway in the body um that makes them feel more satisfied more full after eating a meal um which gives them better portion control so we're also trying to implement dietary habits and lifestyle habits that are going to be able to support and optimize their natur natural glp1 hormone and also give them the feelings that the medication is helping to support So by eating protein being that it's the one of the most um satiating macronutrients it's keeping them feeling satisfied is keeping them feeling full when they focus their meal on protein and it's supporting their lean muscle mass protein also um naturally requires energy to be broken down so it's also supporting their metabolism so there's a lot of reasons that we're focusing in on protein yeah that's awesome um protein is always and you hear that no matter what protein is the most important even on or off these medications so it makes sense why you're going to do the same well on these medications exactly for everybody um we want to make sure that we're aiming for a healthy body composition we want a body composition that has more muscle mass and less body fat because that body composition is naturally going to metabolize a lot better and easier yeah that's awesome um if you're on one of these glp1 medications and you're feeling the sign effects like diarrhea or nausea what are some things you can do nutritionally to help out with some of the bad sign effects that do come with these medications right so actually focusing on focusing in on the principles um that we discuss a lot of times the side effects don't even occur so we really make sure that we're um explaining to our clients that it's very important on this medication to stay hydrated uh we want to make sure that they're drinking enough water that they're and that they're also eating enough protein that they're getting fiber in their diets so the glp1 medication is slowing down the gastric emptying um and the food in the gastric system so we want to make sure that they're drinking water because water is so important for digestion and we want to make sure they're getting enough fiber so that they're moving the through the food through their gastric um tract so by really implementing some of these principles before they start the medication or while they begin the medication and while on the medication they're less likely to even see some of these side effects and if they are having these side effects which it does occur you know we just help them understand um sometimes when they're feeling nauseous it might be because they're not drinking enough water really um yeah and then also warm liquids is really beneficial um adding lemon to water um can be helpful also the types of foods they're eating so when I mentioned protein um you know we educate our clients on the fact that certain proteins get digested a lot easier so they might be very used to choosing higher fat meats or eating fried Foods um so one of the things that we would maybe set goals on is working on you know implementing more lean proteins into their meals so that are easily digested so they don't feel nauseous and that it supports their weight loss journey and some people might be drinking um drinking enough water but maybe they're not getting enough fiber yeah so then we support that we say you know eat more vegetables you know have um maybe cooked vegetables over raw vegetables you know really getting into what they're doing and that's why it's so amazing because it's such a personal approach it is which in the end that's the most important thing because once you get off these medications you still have to keep up the work exactly and everybody lives a healthy life a different lifestyle everybody lives a different lifestyle nobody lives the same lifestyle so we want to implement healthy habits that fit into their lifestyle and they're able to maintain and that they feel comfortable achieving in their in their life so not everybody you know can do different things so really working on and meeting them where they're at that's really important also yeah absolutely we're raised in a culture where we're really taught on healthy things about food um what are some ideas and stuff that's floating around and this can be around the medication just in nutrition in general that people need to unlearn about nutrition right so a lot of these people have been on very restrictive diets in the past and they felt restricted they felt deprived and that type of approach to weight loss actually causes more binge eating in cases more sugar Cravings um so we really have to explain to them that this is a whole new Journey that they're on and to let the past um go to learn from maybe what worked or what didn't work um but to understand that this a this is a whole new Journey for them and that you know we want to not restrict but we want to actually improve and add nutrients to their their meals we want to work on what they can eat and what actually will support their body systems to work and function um better than being restrictive yeah absolutely um what are some like because you talked people all the time as a health coach do you have any like specific stories of people that have happened recently that you want to like share or things that like maybe you didn't even realize the medication is doing for them I know we've talked about that earlier about like things that help them but I don't know if you have any stories or anything you want to share to like wrap up or anything oh definitely so I have one woman and and she was amazing and she you know really wanted to learn so she was really excited about the education of nutrition and making the dietary changes so as a nutritionist I was really excited yeah to be working um with her on those goals um so she was cooking for her family she was doing a great job she was doing a lot of home cooking and she just wanted to improve her own health um but she also wanted to make sure that she could eat dinner with her family and that she didn't have to change that part of her lifestyle and um her husband and her son really what she thought in her mind were looking for you know a lot of high-fat meats and a lot of meat dishes and um and she was going along with that and she realized like that wasn't actually helping her and her body so she started slowly with the education of learning how to you know um learning how to choose more lean meats she started implementing more lean meats into their family meals and they didn't even realize it and they were so excited about the way the meal tasted and she was decreasing sodium as well and she was using a lot more seasonings to flavor the food so everything was like tasting great and um she was was saying everybody loved the food and she was feeling really good so it was a win-win for like the whole family that's cool yeah and how that can help much this medication can help so much more than just one person exactly exactly and a lot of people are really excited um that they're being good role models for their family and that it is spilling over and um they're you know feeling great about that especially moms you know with children and they're so happy that now they're learning learning and Understanding Nutrition and being active and their being able to be more active with their kids and they're able to provide them with better foods and they're feeling so good about that that's awesome that's so great that's all the
