they begin the three- game series against the first place Cleveland Guardians this The Lead Off could be a World Series preview this could be a matchup we see in October the Guardians 80 and 60 up four games on the twins in the AL Central the Los Angeles Dodgers 84 and 56 84 and 56 five games up on the San Diego Padres in the division by the way the Padres do hold that tiebreaker so just like how the Dodgers have that tiebreaker against the the Diamondbacks where a six-game lead is essentially a seven game lead the Padre's have the tiebreaker against the Dodgers and last night if you if you saw that game last night the Padre's the Dodger the Padres and the Tigers I know you guys are watching that on your day off on your Dodgers day off that was the one to watch because it looked like the Padre's were headed towards getting another win they were going to inch closer and closer to the Dodgers in the NL West but thankfully thankfully the Detroit Tigers come through late you had Robert Suarez on the mound for the Padres to close things out and then how about Parker Meadows Parker Meadows is my non Dodger Dodger Dog of the game for a couple for yesterday for that big Grand Slam that's what you dream of that's what you dream of as a kid you're trailing 3 and you could be facing your last at bat and not only do you hit a home run you hit the goahead Grand Slam so shout out to the Tigers shout out to Parker Meadows I'm going to give him a let's go Dodgers for that big Grand salami and then that keeps the Dodgers up five games in the National League West but still a lot of baseball to play for and just crunching some numbers this morning and looking at the way the standings are well if you look at where the Dodgers are sitting right now I think they're going to go a lot better and smoother than going 500 they're gonna play better than 500 ball down the stretch but the Dodgers 84 and 56 they go 11 and 11 that would put them at 95 and 67 the Padre's they have to go 15 and five to get the 95 wins 15 and five to get the 95 wins and if they did that they had the same record Padre's having that tiebreaker at this point would help them and then the DME back 79 and 62 they have to go 16 and5 to get to 95 wins so if you look at where the Dodgers are at right now A 93.8 chance 93.8% chance of winning the National League West I'm telling you not getting cocky here but this division looks like it's close to being sewn up it's not over yet you still got to play good quality baseball down the stretch and today the Dodgers begin a stretch of 10 straight games and 16 of their next 17 games are consecutive so 16 games in 17 days so lots of baseball coming up for the Dodgers but hey it's about knowing your foe so we're going to do some know your Foe and preview this Guardian series a little bit because this could be a postseason matchup and a little bit of a roster move Landon Knack was called up and he's going to get the start tonight for the Dodgers he's taken that rotation spot that was left behind by clayon Kershaw who's on the iil with a toe injury his toes in a boot he's dealing Landon Knack Called Up with the bone spur so they're trying to get the swelling down they're trying to get the inflammation down and then hopefully can have some sort of an impact hopefully get a couple starts under his belt and find some way if it's not in the nlds it's in the NLCS the World Series thinking way to ahead but landed Knack has been solid all season long this season Knack The Knack attack posted three erra 825 strikeouts per nine not amazing but you look at just the production the results have been there he's pitched in 10 games for the Dodgers this season 48 Innings at a three er clip that's definitely s now the advanced stuff which I focus more let's be honest but advanced stuff kind of indicates that there could be a regression to the me happening at some point a 473 FIP and a 438 expected FIP but look for n landed to go out there and take this Challenge on and put the Dodgers in a position to hopefully win and you look at Friday's match up as well they're going up against Matthew Boyd and Matthew Boyd has been in his bag lately the guardian's left-hander he's allowed no more than three runs and any of his four starts since he was traded to the Guardians he's pitched into the sixth inning in each outing so he's kind of like their Jack flarity where he's pitched deep into games he's been really productive he has worked out as far as a trade so you got to give him credit there and then Landon he's only pitched into the fifth inning once in his last three starts so one thing to look for tonight is how much do you get out of Landon and how do the Dodgers do against boydd and the Dodgers they've been really really good this season against left-handed pitching above average 115 weighted runs created plus they've actually been better against lefties than righties this season so I think for me tonight the number one key is just like getting out and getting started and really putting the the flag down saying okay we know it's a first place team we're coming off a worst last place team in the Angels it's going to be a nice little challenge a nice little challenge for this Dodgers team and then Saturday's matchup you got Alex Cobb going up against Gavin Stone so Gavin Stone will be on six days rest Alex Cobb he tossed six perfect Innings on Sunday against the Pirates so he had a split fingernail which by way that sounds you guys have a split fingernail I know you probably have Antonio Tony Taylor what's your craziest injury oh other than the kidneys dude just play dude I was trying to bomb a hill on a longboard when I was like 21 in cast state California right by B hill balma hill bro to the non California is what that means Antonio it's like when you go on a longboard and go down a hill super fast but uh friend Joey loves to do that but I was trying to bomb the hill and I was going good I was listening to the Scorpions on my iPod and I just hit a Little Rock and I literally fell on my face like full force boom wow and just like this side of my face was like swollen maybe I'll bring a picture next time but that was my garous injury like Bryce Harper that's right yeah but hey tough guy you you did clearly the face got back to 100% that's what the ladies say absolutely so so you got to love it you got to love it but then Alex Cobb like I said he's been pitching well of late and then you got Gavin Stone so Gavin Stone Gavin Stone Stats last start against a Dbacks he allowed five runs on five hits and five innings of work and the Dodgers win over the Diamondbacks last Saturday he gave up that leadoff home run to Corbin Carroll gave up that four runs there in the bottom of the first Inning on four hits they also gave another home run to guriel later in the game but the strikeouts have been there for Stoner 18 punchies in his last 16 and two thirds Innings so two really good pitching opponents they're going to be facing two good pitchers early in this series and then Sunday you got Jack flarity going up against Gavin Williams so flarity versus Williams and I think you look at the biggest key to the series it's about one avoiding those blowups so three things I want to see in this series is the first thing I want to see no blowup Games clay Kershaw going one inning last Friday and of course that was due to an injury but the bullpen had to cover 2 four outs and eight Innings roesy blowup game he died for that Series win for the Dodgers last week gave up 10 runs Bobby Miller blowup game against the angels on Wednesday where he gave up five runs in the first seven runs total that's going to tax the bullpen you don't want to have these blowup games another thing I want to see second thing I want to see in this series a big series for Will Smith Will Smith has been so showing signs of Life he's shown signs of getting out of this 3mon slump that he's been on last six games hitting 208 with a 71 weighted runs created plus but last four games hitting 294 five for last 17 with a home run in five RB now we're to talk about this in a little bit during the mailbag session but if Will Smith is looking taxed if Will Smith is showing more signs of fatigue if it looks like to the Dodgers that Will Smith could benefit from some rest and yes they haven't been using the Phantom ilil as much and I think for good reason because baseball's cracking down just ask Billy Epler about that but if it does look like Will Smith could benefit from some rest how about the guy who was on the show last Friday how about Don rushing coming up getting 50 some at bats seeing what he can do and at the very least putting everything out there on the table for the Dodgers when they decide what they want to do for their postseason roster so just throw it out there been talking about this for a while now and yes if you look at the rosters and got to be on that roster before September 1st but you can fill in for an injured player it's the easiest loophole in the game you can get D rushing in The Bigs if you decide that's what this team wants to do third thing I want to see I want to see two home runs from sh and four steals so four steals that would put him at 50 50 piece and then I need to see some home runs cuz I don't want this to linger to the last couple of days of the Season cuz cuz I don't want to see him pressing entering that what presumably is going to be a 4day break heading into the NLS I don't want to see that because I think for Shi you want to make sure he's peeking at the right time but you definitely don't want to see him pressing now if you look at where the Guardians are at heading into the season this a really really good team I mean might not watch a ton of Guardians baseball but this has been a really really solid team all season long and one of my favorite players and Noel Cleveland Predictions knows this I'm a big jram guy is a big Jose Ramirez household I remember when he was messing with Freddy Freeman hey Freddy go glove go glove I love Jose Ramirez I mean if if I could pick maybe like one two three players from another team to have them on my team Jose Ramirez is on that list love J Ram well everyone's talking about sh's 50-50 he's chasing 4040 right now Jose Ramirez 34 home runs and 34 steals so kind of feel bad for the guy right most years about Jose rir 4040 uh whoops play in the wrong year play in the wrong generation got some jram stuff I love that Tony ters and then you got Andreas Jimenez hitting 280 with a 933 Ops last six games four extra base hits another to look for is Josh Naylor he was out in Wednesday's series finale against the Kansas City Royals with back spasms Naylor's on a six-game hitting streak four multi-hit games so he's been on fire hitting 480 with a 1260 Ops with eight ribbies since August 28th so a challenge for the Dodgers pitchers and the hitters in this series and the Dodgers mooki bets hitting 301 with a 909 Ops in 22 games since coming back from the Andre list in mid August Freddy Freeman he's hot too I mean Freddy Freeman's hitting 346 in his last seven games with four bombs and an 808 slug so I got the Dodgers man I I we didn't get a chance to predict the angel Series so I couldn't take can't take credit for that but I am on a f series streak of picking it correctly this one it's it's not fun it's not sexy it's the easy pick but I'm going two out of three two out of three for the Dodgers this series how about you Tony taters going to look at scans it's on his left big toe that impacts your velocity it impacts the velocity on all your pitches in the command so that is kind of one of the big things for that for sure we got um Equivalent Exchange going to the game tonight my niece's first baseball game How likely is a win good question I mean it's baseball you never know but I like the pitching matchup for the the guardian side tonight with the way that Boyd has been pitching but also like this Dodgers offense as well coming back from a really really rough showing against the angels on Wednesday we got dmac blonde out on a date can't believe how many times they struck out I respect that take it's a home run take but yeah lots of strikeouts not good at bats definitely was one of the more forgettable nights for the Dodgers offense but let's talk some starting pitching and let's talk Tyler glass now because I think one of the biggest remaining questions for the end of the season is one how quickly they get Tyler glass now back two how many starts could he get and Tyler Glasnow Updates three is he 100% ready to put this team on his back in the postseason Tyler glass now was traded to the Dodgers and they extended him not for June not for August not for September for October to be that horse in the postseason is he going to be that guy we've seen how he looks when he's on the mount and he's dominant Tyler glass now really takes a backseat to no one when it comes to just pure stuff when he's right he's as good as it gets you saw those 17 punch outs those 14 punch outs in seven Innings against the twins early in the season you saw his dominance on the mound throughout the season this year a 349 ER but you know what the expected stuff is better an expected ra at 263 and 1128 strikeouts per nine only issue with Tyler glass now if you want to find one got kind to spot that pimple on the model is are the the Innings too high is there too many starts because these are uncharted waters for glass the most starts he's made in the season is 21 he's made 22 this year before this year the most Innings he had pitched in the season was 120 he's had 134 so just texting people and kind of talking to people I look at the Tyler glass Now situation as their precautionary with it but the same token it's more than nothing because of the way that the rehab is looking he's been on the isil since August 16th due to right elbow tendinitis and after that they said he was going to face the minimum he wasn't going to be on the iil very long and what happens well Dave Roberts tells us that it's getting off to a slow start they scratched him from playing catch last week because he wasn't feeling right the arm wasn't bouncing back and then he did throw off flat ground in Arizona in back toback days so that was a good sign and then Dave Roberts said he played catch today and as I understand it this weekend he's supposed to get off the mound and throw a pen so I'm really encouraged about that and glass now is going to need to throw a few Bullpen sessions before he faces hitters so he has to face hitters that's a big box he has to check but before that you had to have the bullpen session so we're going from playing catch to flat ground we're going from playing catch from 60 to 90 to 120 ft to a bullpen session to another Bullpen session and then you can face hitters in a simulated game and Dave Roberts told us last week as well that he is going to need to make at the very least one Rehab start so Bullpen sessions simulated games a rehab start so Dave said he's going to have to make a rehab start I just can't see any world that he wanted so like I said 22 starts this season he's been great the ER doesn't necessarily reflect that as much I mean 349 it's not sa young caliber but the advanced stuff say it's sa young caliber a sub one whip 11.3 strikeouts per nine so I have seen people out there saying wait a second Tyler glass now a 34935 ER is he that great he absolutely is he absolutely is because the expected stuff that's based on bad to ball contact says that he should be better he's in the 97th percentile in expected ra 95th percentile in expected batting average 94th percentile in strikeout rate at 32.2% 87 percentile in whiff rate at 30.9% so he Strikes Out hitters he misses bats at an elite clip he's got a 99 percentile extension to the Dodgers but I'm starting to get a little antsy I'm starting to get a little weary when I wake up at 3:30 in the morning in a cold sweat I think of Tyler glass now's status I need him on the mound one they're not going to rush him back and on the flip side the flip side with yoshan Obi Yamamoto we got a major Yamamoto Updates positive update on yoshiba Yamamoto and we did a full episode on that a couple days ago but Yamamoto is going to start next week versus the Cubs and he's going to get potentially four starts four starts before the postseason now I kind of of want to push back a little bit on the Yamoto thing in that it might have been nice to see him get at at least one more Rehab start just because he's going to be pitching three Innings four Innings if he's efficient this Bullpen they're already heavily taxed and yes you're going to have a six-man rotation and that's definitely going to help this team but I I really think you could have used one more Rehab start because he was supposed to get to three innings in his last one he didn't get to those three Innings thanks to Omar nv's 17 pitch walk where he where he fou off 11 pitches and he was supposed to throw another inning pitch-wise in the bullpen after the start but I was told that never happened so it's good to it's kind of works two ways it's good to get him back in the fold to get him more reps at the big league level but you also want this Bullpen to be fresh too and yes three Innings of Yamamoto to start your game is better than any Bullpen game that you could construct totally understand that you have to understand that as well but still I think for yamamoto's sake you don't want to rush him back you do not want to rush him back and as far as Bobby Miller goes if clayon Kershaw comes back when Tyler glass now comes back Bobby Miller's time this season feels like it's getting close to an end I mean we know the potential is there I've said it before I say it again he is like almost a a guy with his driver's permit that's driving Lamborghini right he needs to learn how to control his stuff and better utilize his stuff I thought the sequencing in his last start wasn't there throwing that heater to a left-handed batter in his Nitro Zone early in that game just was not the move and I think for Bobby Miller it's just kind of finding out what he wants to be am I going to be a 98 99 100 mile per hour fast ball thrower because it's a straight fast ball it's a flat fast ball and he has to locate it early in counts cuz if he's 1 2 and they're sitting on heater it's not moving much it's not running as much arms side or glove side Big League hitters are going to time up a bullet and they're going to be able to do damage so I look at Bobby Miller as next season come back healthy and we know that doesn't matter who they add sh Otani is going to be back on the mound you're going to have Tyler glass now Yamamoto hopefully you're going to have Gavin Stone we'll see do they have Roki Sasaki and Tony dodlin Jack Flair do they resign him does Luis Castillo become a Dodger that'd be a dream right but the truth is that we know that the young pitchers are going to get their opportunity so he'll have a chance to make five to 10 starts and prove that he could pitch better than he did this season because I see people selling all their Bobby Miller stock I'm here to tell you I'm going to buy that if it's the IPO Bobby Miller stock I'm going to buy it before it becomes a blue chip stock because he was Bobbly Miller Thoughts injured All Season de was shoulder inflammation dealt with an abductor injury dealt with a knee injury all this is impacting him on the mound the stuff though is still there that's what makes him so promising and look ideally he's a starting pitcher if it doesn't work out as a starting pitcher has a lot of potential as a Bull Pen piece as well imagine that nasty change up naster than a gas station bathroom coming out of the pen with a well-located fast ball imagine what his fastball looks like if he only feels like he's going to be pitching one or two innings he be pumping gas so don't sell your on Bobby Miller I think he still has the potential to help this team in the future I just don't think baring injury is going to be this season but let's go to the comments here Adrian Salazar I say rest glass now and utilize Yama to make up for the lost time to get his arm right in time for October then glass now will be ready to go for game one of the nlds so good points there give you a fire take in that yes Yamamoto has missed two and a half months and you want to see him get more acclimated at the big league level and the velocity is going to be fine at the beginning the velocity was around 95 mph which is close to his season average this season and it's about the Commando can he locate can he fill up the zone and work his pitch mix with the yo-yo rainbow curve with that nasty splitty so I'm excited to see Yamoto back and by the way I know show to imanaga who is Noel's favorite Japanese pitcher in baseball can you believe that can you believe that that's his favorite pitcher in baseball favorite Japanese pitcher in baseball special I think there was definitely a little bit of planning there from Yamoto probably talking to the team seeing that game marked down on his calendar so I think that'll be pretty awesome if that uh the mailbag question from Joe magazen could we see any minor Leaguers get called up that could have an impact in the postseason earli in the show we talked about the possibility of dawn rushing well a couple months ago I mentioned the possibility of Edgardo henriquez I was talking to Edgardo really nice guy and I think that he's built for October potentially the stuff certainly is and this is the biggest meteor rise we've seen since Brock Stewart in 2016 when Brock Stewart comes up he was at high a then by the end of the year he's pitching for the Dodgers in the show had that really great start against the Cubs where the Dodgers won 10 remember that one Edgardo henriquez has the potential to be the Dodgers Frankie Rodriguez and you saw what Frankie Rodriguez did for the Angels back in 2002 and I'm not saying he's going to necessarily have that same impact but as far as what he could bring to a bullpen in that there's no familiarity with him it's not a lot of tape on him not a lot of add bats against him and then when you look at the pure stuff it's video game numbers you look at the velocity on the fast ball he's thrown 103 a couple of times this season everyone went crazy about Ben Joyce hey you want Ben Joyce I can't get you get get you Joyce right now I can get you edguardo henriquez he's throwing 103 a couple of times this season and these poor hitters down the my league level he's pumping gas throwing triple digit heat hitting 103 and they're doing their best to try to anticipate that and then what does he do he throws a nasty slider that's touching 90 a nasty slider and he's one of the fastest medior Rises we've seen for the Dodgers in quite some time and he's averaging 97 point he's averaging 99.7 miles per hour on his heater but not just the velocity it's the spin he's averaging close to 2500 RPMs on his spin rate that would put him close to the 90th percentile so the v's there the spin's there he has another pitch that he can offer to keep hitters off balance in the slider this year a 257 ER 244 FIP a 40.9 strikeout rate a 10.8 walk rate so the command is the only thing that you look at to say well can he command it at this level that's definitely a potential concern but since he was promoted to Triple A that yell R is down to 186 the FIB is at 168 the strikeout rate at 36.6% the walk rate has dropped down to 7.3% oh and on top of that he's eligible for the rule five draft this off season he's been in the system for quite some time so you have to add them to that 40-man roster no matter what which they will do to avoid another team poaching him and adding him to their organization so you have to add him anyway and this goes back to your question about Joe Kelly now Joe Kelly sure the horizontal break is still there the velocity is still there but I mean at the very least can we see edguardo henriquez for a couple weeks in September that's what I want to see and if you look at the way the roster is set up right now you have natural DFA candidates you have Michael Peterson you have Bren Honeywell you could I Daniel Hudson there are a lot of different ways you get him on this roster but the number one reason why I'm bringing up Edgardo henriquez now and I hate to put this out there I hate to throw this into The Ether but when you pump 103 when you're pumping triple digits you only got so many of those bullets in the chamber right and I'd rather take advantage of those bullets at the big league level I'd rather use it while I have it barring something bad happening to him I'm not going to say it it's like it's like Harry Potter I don't say Voldemort right I don't say Voldemort I don't say the TJ oh but I think Tommy John also played for the Guardians too put that out there I'm pretty sure but yeah I don't say it but I mean can you imagine Edgardo henriquez lights out flamethrower in the postseason you've seen the success look at Michael copc was close to a 5 ER guy when I was pounding my history to hit a home run in the postseason at 21 years 314 days before that the youngest was wait for it Cody Bellinger at 22 years 88 days in game three of the 2017 nlds against the Diamondbacks he also became the youngest player to come off the bench and hit a pinch hit Grand Slam so hey we'll see I think D rushing like I said give Will Smith some time off if he doesn't feel like he has it or wants just to re-energize himself all these guys mooki Freddy they've been able to get some rest glassow Yamamoto they've gotten some rest teoscar is on a one-year deal he doesn't want rest right he wants to go out there and he wants to perform and then you also have Will Smith playing a difficult position so wouldn't be against it definitely would not be against it now next question I got we got a couple here we're going to head out of this one who is the Dodgers big biggest X Factor in the lineup the Dodgers biggest X Factor in the lineup I would say I think I know what I have in the mv3 and yes we can talk about mooki and Freddy's numbers last two postseasons but still throughout the course of a postseason the averages are going to average out and I believe in the mv3 I think the biggest X Factor for the Dodgers as far as their lineup goes is tar andz and it's the fact that there's the mv3 and then there's teoscar and teoscar is an MVP player no but he's on a one-year deal and he has all the opportunity in the world to continue to increase his stock around the league and this season he has a 923 Ops with runners in scoring position if tcar Hernandez T Allstar Hernandez has a 923 op uh Runners and scoring position Ops in the postseason I like the Dodgers chances of going very deep and I think it's going to be very impactful because it's not just the numbers with teoscar as if look it's a long season if you think of the best moments of the season a lot of them that pop into your head are tasar Hernandez the sunflower seeds walk-off base hit against the Diamondbacks him absolutely owning the New York Yankees I haven't asked him yet but I still want to ask him what did the Yankees get him for Father's Day I mean was it a nice hat I mean I mean I don't know what it was Yamamoto just because if we get the npb Japan Series game six where he has 14 strikeouts and we get the version of you know what's funny about both both these X factors if we get their Yankees version Yamoto versus the Yankees tasa versus the Yankees feeling really good about those guys it's over right the bullpen X Factor I'm going to Michael copc Michael copek has gone from is this guy going to be a bust as a former top prospect that was once a starter that went to a reliever we knew he had the stuff but was never going to put it together was he just a good guy on a bad team guy he's the
