Biggest Takeaways From Jets First Unofficial Depth Chart | New York Jets News

Intro what is going on Jet fans Matt oi back with another video in today's video I want to get into the Jets unofficial depth chart so let me just preface by saying that this first unofficial depth chart does not mean that it's a lock that this is what it's going to be when the season starts in fact when you look back at the 2022 depth chart at this time the first unofficial depth chart s Gardner and Bryce Hall were splitting a starting spot don't know how they figured that one out but they did Garrett Wilson was with running with the second team and there were a lot of other examples of just strange things happening so usually the young guys are a little bit further down the depth chart at first and then they get bumped up as a ghes so let's pull up the depth Offense chart right now and go over what we see really on the offense I feel like there's not a ton of surprises they have both what it could look like in a three wide receiver set and two tight end set two tight end set has Conlin and Rucker as the two1 ends no surprise but at three wide it's Garrett Wilson Xavier Gibson and alen Lazard as the starters with no Mike Williams yet uh that is not crazy surprising although I think we've seen uh Jason brownley rise up a little bit Malik Taylor's had a good camp so him rocking with the second stringers not really a huge surprise there um looking at the offensive lineman the starters are are valid like we we knew what that was going to look like I guess a slight surprise Max Mitchell ahead of Carter Warren right now for backup right tackle um but pretty much the the rest is okay the one thing that doesn't bode well for IIA Ben aanda is that he's listed as the fourth string behind two rookies and as I mentioned the rookies in Years Gone by usually had to earn the spot and they are already listed ahead of Izzy and that's how I would have it too by the way like I'm not I personally am not crazy surprised by it but based on past history not great and when we get to the kick and punt returner option depth chart not great for I aananda as well moving on to defense this is where Defense things get slightly different so Germaine Johnson Quinny Williams Javon kinlaw those three make sense Michael Clemens as the first starting Edge I guess if you go by Camp reps not crazy surprising that he is here you'd like to see Will McDonald maybe get that opportunity at some point Tac McKinley's had a really good camp um the rest of this group is really not all that surprising Hassan reic has not reported so that's why he's listed all the way down here at the bottom if and when he reports he would jump in this spot here and I would imagine Michael Clemens goes to the second string I've mentioned this before but I think the linebacker competition is going to be a tough one so in a base 43 the Jets almost never use that though they have jamen Sherwood CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams they usually run a 425 um so it it's going to be Mosley and Williams out there but sherwoods had a really good camp and chasserat and Zer Barnes you could kind of say the same thing about because both those guys have had strong camps and fighting for that fourth linebacker spot hey hell even Sam Owen too uh is a name that's been mentioned a few times during training camp so Jets having a little bit of a battle there at linebacker secondary makes sense as well I mean you have quantz stiggers backing up S Gardner he's had probably the best camp for Corners outside of the starters uh Brandon Eckles backs up DJ Reid in the Nickelback you have Brandon uh codington Brandon Eckles also um could play a little nickel back so I wouldn't be surprised if he could go in at that point and fill in for Michael Carter if need be at safety Chuck Clark Tony Adams your starter no surprise keep it rolling kicker Greg zerin punter Thomas morstead Thomas morstead also the holder and here you go there's a long long long list of Punt returners and kick returners Xavier Gibson Isaiah Davis number two slight surprising Malachi Corley Brandon codrington no I aananda here which that again I don't think boness well for his chances of making this team uh maybe that changes for the next unofficial dep chart and then the next one down the line but for right now biggest takeaways for me uh or biggest surprises I guess Michael Clemens technically listed as a starter over Will McDonald uh just where they have or don't have I aananda um the rest I'm not really all that worried about and I think it'll kind of you know play out as we go but it would be nice to get guys healthy like Mike Williams getting inserted back into the lineup uh same thing with reic um I think that just helps things so let me know what your thoughts are down below in the comments on the Jet's first unofficial depth chart I'm mat ly I'll catch you next time
