The partnership between IONOS and Nextcloud - Martin Endress

Intro hello my name is martin andres i'm the chief customer officer of jonos today i would like to talk about the strategic partnership which jonas and nexcloud formed at the beginning of the year i believe that to be successful partnering companies should not only have a joint business interest but rather share the same vision and beliefs European Data Sovereignty and here i would like to quote our ceo achimvais jonas and nexcloud share the same vision of european data sovereignty the concept of data sovereignty gains increasing attention but what does it really mean data sovereignty simply means that data should be subject to laws and regulations of the country in which it was collected now while this sounds pretty straightforward unfortunately we all know that it is not the case today not even close for example the u.s cloud act allows the u.s government to get access to the data of european customers and businesses without their consent politicians and businesses are getting worried that one day foreign governments may decide who gets access to european data if i think of who have i of tick talk of nordstream 2 then i don't think this is just an imagined risk it's real already and it might even get worse we need european technology like from nexcloud and jonas to ensure and protect european data sovereignty being on an xcloud conference i assume you all know very well what next cloud is offering and frank talked about it so let me start by giving you an overview of who jonas is and what we are doing before i talk about our partnership Who is IONOS first and foremost we are europe's largest web hosting group for two decades we have had customers to register their domain build their websites and shops and host them on the web for our professional customers we offered high performance hosting bare metal servers dedicated servers virtual private servers and of course cloud servers to give you an idea of our size we have an annual turnover close to a billion euros 25 million domains 8 million customers 12 data centers with over 100 000 servers we is jonos as the core brand we operate in germany the uk france spain italy and in north america and the us canada and mexico other members of the hosting group are stratus operating in germany and netherlands fast force in the uk asses in spain home pll in poland if you want to get specialist domain services or buy or sell high value domains you can rely on internet x and xero coming from this strong hosting background it was very natural for us to IONOS cloud offering develop a cloud offering with our deep data center expertise we have our strength on the infrastructure side where we provide standard and individual networking compute and storage solutions to orchestrate our virtual machines we first applied kubernetes internally and now offer it as a managed service to our customers on the path level we partner with solution providers like bechtel or dataport and on the sus level we work with nexcloud and ox so you can see unlike the hyperscalers we're really happy to collaborate with others and not eat their cake too so maybe you wonder by now how can jonas compete with the hyperscalers who have so much more resources in all honesty we're not foolish enough to compete heads on on all services and geographies they are offering especially not on the platform level but in my opinion it's very possible to compete successfully with them on the infrastructure level for many types of customers use cases and especially workloads not everybody needs hundreds of features who are loosely integrated we can provide customers with benefits in five areas Performance performance security ease of use fairness and openness take for example the performance side we are classified by isg provider lens as a rising star which i think is a good and fair assessment the cloud spectator was very impressed by our compute and storage performance in their benchmark we landed closely behind aws but before azure and gcp you can tailor our offering really to your needs we give you flexibility in putting these cores run and storage ssd hdd together as you need it not as pre-packaged fixed bundles on the network level we apply infiniband as our communication standard a technology which is usually fun only in high performance computing obviously also security is key to us on the technical side we offer load balancers firewalls backup disaster recovery and geo-redundancy on the compliance side we're eso compliant and fully gdpr compliant not everybody claims that they are gdpr compliant right but according to the ruling of the european court of justice on privacy shield you cannot both be gdpr compliant and at the same time be subject to the us cloud act our services are really easy to use we have a drag and drop data center designer which allows you to build the data center of your dreams and then provision it instantly our prices are fair ingress and accuracy cost the same so we don't try to screw you with vendor locking tactics and we don't operate with hidden costs performance is always included at janus you don't have to buy costly boost packages like you do for example with aws we use open source and we give back to the community not like some of our competitors who limit themselves to just taking yes i'm looking at you mr bezos so now that you have an idea on our offering let's talk about our next cloud partnership we really love the next club product and want to bring it to all our hosting and cloud customers Nextcloud for enterprise we offer a next cloud hub version hosted in the jonas cloud unlimited in storage and user seats of course it scales well and it gets our enterprise great support in the public sector we collaborate in different projects with the goal to digitize schools in germany but also government civil service and public authorities for these institutions digital sovereignty which we talked about is key their data must be subject to the laws and regulations of germany and they must never be threatened with shutdown or loss of access lastly we currently work on an offering for private customers and smb a fully managed no frills next cloud for everyone it will come soon and address the work from home needs of our customers and it is needed during the corona crisis we saw an increase in demand for groupware and collaboration solutions which lasts until today therefore we are very happy to position exclude here as our technology partner across all customer groups so overall i'm very
