how's it going Mets fans it's your guy wardy and we're doing a Breaking News segment as I am currently in route right now to the Josh Hart and Jaylen Brunson roommates podcast block party there at Central Park I reside in Pennsylvania so I'm taking the hike right now I'm not going to lock guys with the video anymore but I need to get this segment out folks right now and our latest driveing W Wy segment as you guys can see right now as sadly we have some very very big unfortunate news to get into but before I do quick shout out to my amazing girl Lexi for recording the video for us right now to make sure I can get this uploaded as soon as humanly possible I don't care where we are no matter what happens anything crucial in Mets land we are going to break down to a te right away and the latest news folks Jeb mcneel who I was very critical of in the first half of the Season who made me eat my words and proved so many Mets fans wrong starting with myself in the second half right around at 850 to 900 Ops for a good stretch of games home run hore Gap to Gap ability grinding out at bats Jeff McNeil's regular season is now officially over with a small fracture to the risk that he sadly suffered there in the Mets game one victory in a walk-off heroic fashion led by Mark Vientos there in the Mets 6 to4 in extras in game one against the Cincinnati Reds yes I actually heartbroken and yes this is the same Wy that is saying this when I was not far removed we're just a couple months removed from me saying how does Jeff mcneel have any warrant to be beat on this Met's roster still being the worst bat in this La for over a month for not only over a month rather for over a year it felt like truly since the 2022 champ day uh champ days I had as batting champ there with the Mets with a tremendous average he fell from Grace a lot there in 2023 rebounded huge that we saw in the second half of 2024 and now his season is over I want to see your initial reactions in the comments down below everybody I'm really bummed out about this Jeff mcel who has been an absolute Swiss army knife for this Mets team in the second half this season especially post trade deadline as well he has done wonders for them when they have needed it especially in the depth of this lineup which has been huge for the Mets of times throughout the course of the 162 losing Jeff McNeil means the following things one you're in now losing your number one second baseman and your other Outfield option that isn't Tyrone Taylor that isn't going to be Jesse Winker or Harrison Bader based on configuration so the Mets are down a player and two areas that are certainly important to have coverage thankfully the Mets have their own on that front defensively and Outfield configuration with string Marte back with injury too even though the defense isn't there hopefully the backat can pick up soon and later outside of that though second base wise we are now down to Jose glaus and Pablo Rees so because of this I will not be shocked if the Mets do consider either a a Luke Ritter type that we have stored in the minor leagues who's been tearing the cover off the ball all year but is not getting the call Simply put because he is more of a grizzled vet they're at the minor league level and the Mets want more upside with speed and versatility if you want to prioritize speed if you want to prioritize versatility and you want to give Lis on helun a consistent playing time somewhat this is now how you do it Jose glacius is without question going to be the Mets everyday second baseman for the majority of the games to remainer of the season now barring changes but now what do they do with that secondary infield option with mcneel down I think this is prime time to give Luis ANH helun an opportunity to actually have have some decent playing time now that he can split based on certain matchups well Jose glacius can come in later in the ball game as a defensive replacement a great pinch Runner as well luisan hunia is an absolute Speed Demon and while the Mets did just acquire one there and Jose aakar that we saw from that being in the San Diego Padres it doesn't change the fact that lunia has more upside and the sense of true athleticism that we would have there as an infield option and as a guy that can steal the base path so when I look at McNeil I want to appreciate him and sincerely thank him for turning many Mets fans frowns upside down including myself and writing the ship this season for him it is nothing short of an absolute damn shame to see his season end prematurely the way that it now sadly has but how did the Mets respond from this this has been an amazing season for them a wild ride currently on an eight game here looking for the ninth straight and if it snaps today it's not the end of the world they will push forward I know and I have confidence that they will do that but how do the Mets respond from this late a sense of adversity losing one of their most clutch bats that we have seen now in the second half the season a fantastic gind that bat where you see him grinding out 10 11 12 Pitch Out bats more consistently than what we have seen versus the previous first half of the season and the majority of 2023 Jeff mcneel that defense when it is strong and versatile that huge bat grinding out of bats there going from an O2 count to a Full Count and then either working a walk or ripping himself a double he will be sorely missed I wish him well his recovery hopefully Jeff can return on the Mets come postseason play fingers crossed knocking on wood somewhere that the Mets find themselves in that playoff spot they are currently tied with the Atlanta Braves for that third wild card spot and they're just a couple games behind the San Diego Padre's and the Arizona dond backs right now so it's completely wide open we'll see what happens with the Mets for the major of their Cincinnati Red series but I'm thinking about Jeff mcneel right now I cannot thank him enough for all his contribution this season and all the clutch hits that he found himself having and there is a to my right that absolutely almost hit the car behind me thankfully the car is okay holy that was close my goodness that was not fun that is exactly why folks you make sure you're paying attention while you're driving what was that Audi doing holy either way folks the Mets here what is going to happen next for them with Jeff mcneel we will find out all I got to say is this team has fought adversity losing kodai Sanga all year for the most part losing a lot of key guys earlier in the year some of the guys leading the way for them were underperforming and they have overcome those adversities let's see if they're going to be able to do that again now losing Jeff for the remainder of the season and we'll go from there folks let me know in the comments down below which player do you think is going to get the call for the Mets will they defer to an infield option and a lisan hunia maybe a Luke Ritter which could be a Darkhorse pick for some or would you like the Mets to consider a different option that isn't an infield option but maybe an outfield option if they want to go about their configuration differently with a guy like Drew Gilbert who has now hit seven home runs in his past 15 games whatever your thoughts are drop them down below and stay tuned for our video/ Liv stream later today potentially live from Central Park from the ncks event itself so excited for that shout out to my ncks fans apologies to my Nets fans and let's go Mets baby that's driving with Wy I'll see you all again real soon have a good one
