now is our chance to celebrate how truly Global the greatest game continues to be our next inductee will join the class of 20124 as a leader and a winner the powerful englishman's Legacy was cemented in the 2014 Grand Final when he defied a fractured cheekbone to lead the rabbit o to a drought breaking Premiership all the way from Warrington Hall of Fame number 126 Sam Burgess the drop out brought back by S bures oh my goodness he said here I am running at top speed stop me if you can and there were three of them there in a good thing as well putting it back on the inside here for Sam burges spinning away from Morris that's how you do it the Clyde Churchill medalist Sam Burgess the rabitos are the champions for 2014 what an unforgettable Grand Final ladies and Gentlemen please welc welcome to the stage Sam [Applause] [Music] Burgess oh Sammy all the way how are you my goodness thank you so so much for joining us and congratulations the the enormity of this moment is is only really measured by the Legacy that you've left in this game do you want to be known for your Brilliance or your brutality cuz you are both in equal measure yeah well um it's quite funny I it's great listening to all the other inductees and congratulations to everyone tonight but uh I never really saw myself as a as a a skillful player as a great player especially in the class of the players that been inducted to there I just um I had a bit of belief in myself and uh I really worked hard at my craft um you know so it's I was actually really chuffed when I got the call which is a rare thing these days uh so I was really thrilled to be here but it's um yeah I don't know skillful I don't know about that the physicality side I enjoyed that um I really enjoyed that side of it um it's slowly fing it way out the game these days but I really enjoyed it so probably that side I think some of the qualities that we can appreciate and respect in your game you played your role to the greatest of your ability and it doesn't mean that you have to play like a half you brought other strengths and qualities to the game and you should be enormously proud of that uh many Englishmen have come over to the National Rugby League not all have been able to crack it we've had some absolute Champions and Unforgettable ones over the years but you are now right at the top of that tree how does that feel yeah it's great thrill uh listening to you say that um I'm coaching at the moment in the Super League for Warrington wolves and um you know the weight of this in the game in the UK has been just phenomenal you know and I came here as a Young 21y Old Man uh to leave my mark on the game I believed in the sport I love the sport my mom's in the room I came grew up in a rugby league family both mother and father played uh I used to watch my mom R Hill a shine play she was a fantastic player herself uh my D was brutal and strong but um you know I guess it's a bit of recognition for our service to the game as Englishman and uh I'm proud to be inducted but you know I think everyone's challenge is to reach your potential yeah I think that's everyone's challenge I think listen to a lot of players in the room and uh hard work gets a lot of players there and I think um you know that's that was always my TR I wanted to get to my best and be the best I could for my teammates and the coaches and people that believed in me to um yeah it's a really great honor I'm thrilled well you mentioned family and I feel like the Burgess family became like our own first it was you and then Luke and then we watched the twins grow into the game as well we all love seeing Julie around and I'm sure that your dad and you feel him in moments like this as well do you feel like rugby league and family just go hand inand for you yeah well certainly I mean um they certainly do well rugby league is a lot of family isn't it um everyone knows everyone and we all respect each other because it's exem extremely hard and whatever role you play with in the game but you know I'll share a story um on our father's gravestone we we wrote as young men we lost our father when I was 17 or 18 we we wrote um your legacy will live strong through US dad and uh you know my brothers and I my mom we had a group chat and we shared that uh with this news that well this is great that the Legacy may live on so we stay true to our word as young men and long make it continue well the bur's name is officially into the NRL Hall of Fame thank you so much and congratulations Sammy thank you very much thank you
