Cincinnati Jamar chase you are on the clock CD got his deal early this week with Dallas tonight Brandon auk and that Saga has come to its merciful conclusion I think Saga is a word we tend to overuse it's a little little dramatic this felt like it checked all the boxes you had angst disagreement a split which felt like it was probably imminent maybe a trade coming frustration on all sides and then voila a deal money has a way of squashing angst doesn't it four years a buck 2078 no trade he's staying for San Francisco auk averaged nearly 18 yards per touch last season which was the most in the league only George Pickins and Amari Cooper were also above 17 his seven games with 100 receiving yards last season the most by a 49ers player since the greatest receiver of all time Jerry Rice had nine in 1995 Adam schfer joins us now to explain how this got done in the end because Adam at times the temperature Rose to such a point where it appeared it appeared that perhaps a divorce was coming here right by way of a trade didn't happen ultimately they work it out how well Scott there was so much that happened between the 49ers wanting to resign Brandon auk in the offseason and them actually resigning him during training camp in between we had Brandon auk tweeting at Mike Tomlin we had him posting photos with the Commander's quarterback Jaden Daniels he we had Brandon I saying to Jaden Daniels on a FaceTime call they don't want me back we had him asking for a trade request we had trade discussions with the Cleveland Browns the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers who had an agreement in principle to trade for auk before the 49ers told them roughly a couple of weeks ago that they had no intention of trading Brandon auk there that they wanted to keep him now if some team had offered a wide receiver in return that might have gotten the 49ers intention but there was no way that they were TR in a receiver as good and talented and productive as Brandon auk without getting some type of Frontline wide receiver in return this was always going to be go time for all of these unsettled situations to see if any of them could be resolved on Monday Dallas and CD lamb reached the agreement and now on Thursday Brandon iuk and the 49ers reach their agreement I saw you with Pat McAfee talking about the chase situation with Cincinnati which I I think we always presume I mean you're far closer to it than I I just always presume they're going to work it out like CD is never not going to play for the cow boys the auk when I didn't know I just always figure ah Chase will get there with the Bengals well you said maybe their head coach spoke a little too soon like where's that headed in your estimation well the issue there what makes that one a little more complicated in the eyes of people around the league is lamb had one year left on his deal auk had one year left on his deal in the case of Jamar Chase he's got two years left on his deal and we heard Mike Brown on the Eva training camp say that it's going to be difficult to get a deal done now the two sides have spoken and they're trying to work it out but as of earlier today I was told those talks were going in slow motion they weren't proceeding very rapidly so then it's up to Jamar Chase about what he wants to do there are still some issues for those two sides to sort out but that one is a little bit more complicated than CD lamb and Brandon auk all right I brought up Chase just to keep the wide receiver conversation going I want to close by bringing it back to the Niners and Trent Williams I I think we could make a compelling case is as important if not more so than anyone else because he's as good at his position as anyone in football and he's shown he'll sit like what's what's the sense of what uh will resolve that one well the Niners and Trent Williams have been talking and we've heard Kyle Shanahan say this week he's been talking to Trent Williams and the sense is that they haven't gotten close so far but I think this team was really focused on trying to get this deal done with Brandon iuk and it took a lot of energy and attention and now that Brandon auk is done and now that that regular season opener that Monday night game against the Jets is a week from Monday I would think that the 49ers full attention and focus will shift over to Trent Williams who's got no more guaranteed money left on his deal they know that they want him back they know they have to have him back and it'll be up to both sides to try to figure out an arrangement that could get back their Pro Bowl left tackle well we will look forward to visiting with you from there as we will begin Monday night countdown there with the Jets and the Niners we'll see if the big tackle is on time ago so um doesn't really hold weight with me you don't need a deal done before the season uh I don't need a no no do you what you like it done before the season uh I think it says a lot if it is or if it isn't um but however doesn't doesn't really matter to me to be honest with you what does it say just how people feel last season Prescott threw for the most touchdowns was the most accurate passer had the second highest quarterback rating of any quarterback in the league trailing only rock pie which is interesting when you consider the way those guys are talked about on the shows that talk about quarterbacks his 36 touchdown passes last season tied for the second most in cowboys history trailing his own Mark of 20201 the New England Patriots were the last team in the NFL to name their starting quarterback for week one Thursday they said it'll be veteran jacobe brette rather than the third pick overall out of North Carolina Drake May the new head coach for the Patriots J Mayo explained what went into that decision as he spoke with the media Thursday yeah there are a lot of factors uh that led to this choice I think you know the hard part is thinking in the short term and the long term at the same time um as an organization though we feel like jacobe gives us our best chance to win right now we had an I guess an official conversation cuz y'all wanted them to make an announcement so he kind of said something to me today I'm excited for his future uh and uh he's going to be a good obviously a good quarterback in his League uh and you know he kind of came up to me was like man whatever you need I I'm here for and and it's the same thing for him like me whatever he needs from me I'll do the same I wouldn't say disappointed obviously you know there's two ways to look at you know I want to play you know Competitive Edge and me um at the same time understand the situation and being almost you know 10 years in the NFL and and me kind of be my first year is more kind of learning experience uh kind of ask question questions you know grow them with questions and other than that just Pro out there when when I got my chance to you know take reps I show that competitive side for more than just years really for decades the New England Patriots were the gold standard of the National Football League and now they're bad they might be the worst team in the league this year bad we'll see they lack weapons on offense the offensive line is a concern and in my estimation playing Drake May makes very little sense jacobe rousette is a pro he deserves the respect that comes with that his role throughout his career has largely been this capably filling in and that is what he's doing in New England if it goes badly this year for New England and for brassette with respect to him which I just said he deserves at least you're not scarring the guy that you just spent the draft capital on the number three pick on May so a lot of teams so many teams out there that they're rushing to play their young quarterbacks ready or not and I think even if they stink this is the smart move because because doesn't matter who they play they're not going to be a good team either way all 32 teams as I mentioned have named their starting [Music] quarterbacks three rookies three first round rookies are going to get the nod there I think B Knicks and Denver's most interesting one it's the third time in the last four years three rookies will start the team's opener by interesting I mean we knew that Daniels and Williams were going to be the starters I
