Oklahoma Sooners v. Temple Owls Preview

all right we're here it's showtime it's a Thursday night some of you guys might actually be watching college football right now because uh I've got the Colorado game on and just witnessed shador Sanders uh interception where uh bounced off the what was it the defender of the wide receiver's foot and the yeah listen it's the craziest thing that can happen to Colorado um if you're like me you might be pressing the panic button on on a little bit but we're not here to talk about Colorado today we're here to talk about Oklahoma verse Temple because it's game week they're playing tomorrow a Friday night it's going to be a little different before we dive into it though uh I gotta hear from y'all so make sure you guys are joining in the chat letting me know your thoughts around Oklahoma vers Temple what you think the score is going to be and then towards the end of the show we're actually going to talk about a couple of the big games coming up this week this will be the uh probably the format that we work with every single week uh but we're normally going to try to stream on Wednesday nights instead of Thursdays all right so welcome to the show Oklahoma vers Temple y'all listen we've been waiting all season we've been waiting all year for it it's finally here the football season if you're like me you're excited because uh your Saturdays have been pretty lonely yeah they've been pretty lonely but yep now we get to watch Jackson Arnold in the inaugural SEC season and to start it off against temple in the SEC this year if you're an Oklahoma fan you're watching this game I think hoping you don't learn anything about your team because if you watch Oklahoma versus Temple unless Oklahoma wins this game 100 by 100 points uh anything you learn from this game is probably going to be in a negative manner so if you're Oklahoma uh you really want them to come out of this game healthy uh and ideally just not learning anything about who they are on the field now I will say this there are a couple things that uh you and I as ok fans are probably going to be watching I think the first one is looking at the wide receiver room uh we talked about this in the video earlier today but andrell Anthony being able to play this week I that was shocking to me it was shocking to be able to see andrel Anthony return this early but just seeing how EMT Jones is going to shape up this wide receiver room this season uh that's going to be intriguing because he's recruited that room very well and it's probably one of the deepest positions for Oklahoma now I look at the wide receiver room for the game this week and I I think to myself I don't necessarily want to see a ton of our starters I I asked you guys in a poll uh last week which wide receiver you guys think was going to be targeted the most in this offense on Friday and a lot of people said Dion Burks some people said Farooq uh some people said Anderson unfortunately you said Nick Anderson he's not going to get any Targets because he will not be playing but but I don't think that's anything to worry about because you shouldn't need him for temple if you do we got bigger problems you might be looking like NC State out there uh no but on a serious note looking at the wide receiver room I'm more interested to see what we have in some of these red shirt freshmen and some of these true freshmen that are stepping on campus uh for those of you who watched this team last year and you're familiar with recruiting you're familiar with this roster for Oklahoma uh Oklahoma has some pretty decent wide receivers that came into the fold last year in terms of freshman you had a Jacob Jordan a Trey Brown I think those guys were Walk-Ons but you have a guy like Ivan kerion coming in this year who's I think what six6 six7 you've got KJ Daniels coming in you've got Zion ragens Zion Kerney as somebody who that we're excited to see and then you've got JZ pedway there's a lot of really young talent in this room that you're really excited to see and I think those are the guys I feel like everybody really wants to see get pastes Throne from Jackson Arnold to see who's going to be the leader in that room for if Nick Anderson has a stellar year and gets drafted uh I think Faro's probably out of Eligibility too uh Deon Burks will probably be onto the draft I don't know if andrel Anthony will leave or not uh we'll see kind of what happens there with him but you really want to see something out of these true freshman and red shirt freshman for the upcoming year so on that note I am looking at one of the young guys in that room that I'm looking at is Zion Kerney I want to see what he's made of I want to see him get those targets and I want to see what they're going to be able to do with him and then the second wide receiver I'm looking at is Ivan Kion are they going to put him in more of a flex tight in position um or are they going to put him on the outside a little bit that's what I'm curious to see um I've always been on the train of hey you could put Ivan ker on as a flex tight end or Flex wide receiver whatever you want call it right a guy that kind of play both sides of the ball and uh I think you know hey if you get if you have a package where you can run a Kaden Helms or Devon Mitchell with Ivan kerion that's gonna be probably a pretty successful package especially when you get TR Washington on campus those will be two pretty tall tight end that you could put out there so looking at the rest of the offense uh offensive line obviously you don't want to see the offensive line uh give up too many QB hurries give up any sacks or anything like that uh I think when you come out of this game with the offensive line you just want to come out of it knowing nobody on the offensive line got dinged up and the offensive line did enough of a job to create holes for the running game and to create enough pass block protection for Jackson Arnold to have the time he needs to get the ball especially to some of his deep threats like a Brennan Thompson or an Andre Anthony or a Deon Burks so uh offensive line I I feel like like we're going to see a bunch of different makeups of it you not only on Friday but next week and the week after against Houston and Tain you'll probably see multiple variations of a starting lineup and then you'll probably see multiple variations of the starting or of a offensive line throughout these games you're going to see Bill be bo Tinker figure out who's going to play the better and I would not doubt that we're going to see some true freshman whether that's a a Josh isosa who's had a pretty good summer and fall Camp uh playing Center you you've also got Eugene Brooks who was voted to be a pre-season true freshman allamerican which uh that one shocked me a little bit that he was on the list but he was a guy that in camps in January did not lose a rep so Eugene Brooks uh definitely extremely talented somebody that I think we could all be paying attention to uh to maybe get some early playe time and then Eddie Pier Louie that's the one Oklahoma fans are excited about because when you see what he's able to do on the track field uh that guy's athletic you got to have him out there on the field all right so let's take a look at the chat uh P you got me right here right JJ Hester I do feel like out of all of the potential guys that you could see starting for this week on the offensive side of the ball at the wide receiver position uh JJ Hesters is probably the one that probably gets the most run and reason being is um he's supposedly going to be replacing Jaden Gibson so if you're Oklahoma you really want to see what you have in JJ Hester as a replacement uh but uh you liked what you get with him in the length I just want to see what he's going to be able to do in terms of uh going up some of these SEC corners and safeties so uh Sooner Legend podcast says he wants to see pedway uh and then yes uh Brenan Thompson getting some run is going to be a lot of fun so um f f f gave 499 Super Chat here uh yeah you'll be up there for Houston yeah so I know I will be down there pretty early for the game uh that's what a 6:30 kick I will probably get into Norman around 2:30 to 3:30 somewhere in that time frame I'll just be walking around so um if you got a Twitter hit me up and we'll try to link right to finalize the offensive side of the ball uh the running back so last year we talked about the running game being the deepest room for Oklahoma uh we talked about it being Oklahoma's biggest strong suit and it looks like Colorado finally just scored so um hope now they're not down to North Dakota State hopefully they can keep that lead so they don't have to endure the pain of the national media killing them uh but the running back room last year was everybody went in saying that's going to be Oklahoma's strong point and it ended up I mean I'm not going to say it was a weak point for Oklahoma last year but it was a low Point like we all looked at that running game every single week we're just like is this the week that we get um two guys that can break out right and you know it was really just only one guy every single week and then ended up being Gavin Sawchuk towards the latter half of the Season uh the running game this year is going to be um I'm not GNA say the best room for Oklahoma because actually I think the best room for Oklahoma is going to be the linebackers on the defensive side of the ball but the running back room is going to be a pretty deep room this year uh I I'm really curious to see how much runs Sam Franklin gets in this game that was a guy that I didn't hear Too Much from in the summer uh maybe just kind of heard some things like Sam Franklin might not even be the third string rotation but going into fall Camp Sam Franklin made some noise now remember he was the transfer that came in uh and rushed for over 1300 yards last year so you're excited for what you have in him obviously Gavin Sawchuk leading the way I'm curious to see how much run he gets you know I I look at this game against Temple kind of like an NFL preseason game right that's how you should treat it like your starters really should only play three maybe four drives and then you should pull them out which I think gets you to about midc quarter halftime we'll see depending on how much we run the ball but javante Barnes Taylor Tatum if you're an Oklahoma fan you want to see what you get out of those guys including Caleb Hicks into that mess so offense side of the ball I really don't think as an U fan you should have as many questions as a national media leads you to believe if you guys remember about uh beginning of August uh I made a video talking about Oklahoma's offensive line and said hey if Oklahoma can go out there and hold themselves in between 25 to 30 snaps they will be a top four team in the SEC mainly because you look at some of the best teams in the SEC right and you look at what they do on the offensive line that would be about on par to where everybody else is at so um I I know the national media probably doesn't have that belief uh but I mean shoot Alabama gave up what was it 49 sacks last year or something like that some stupid un devious number in the 40s um if you're Oklahoma you see that and it maybe gives you a little bit of Hope especially since you got hopefully Elite quarterback play in Jackson Arnold shifting to the defense side of the ball so this is where we got start asking questions this is where I want youall jump in the chat does the defense allow Temple to score on Friday do they allow them to score on Friday because from what we're hearing out of this defense they shouldn't score and quite frankly I'm be making a buold prediction here in a second with everything that we're hearing out of Oklahoma's defense I would bet by the time we get to conference play play Oklahoma has only allowed 17 points scored on that defense that I I I feel like that's a little bold because Houston's a power four team uh two lane is going to have a decent offense because remember they got Tai Thompson as their quarterback uh he I think he was an Alabama quarterback or something like that then went to Oregon now he's at two lane uh and then you've got Mario Williams being one of their wide receivers out there uh and they picked up who was it was it Chris Hardy or they picked up one of those defensive linemen that Oklahoma was going after in the portal this year two Lan's going to be a decent team so if Oklahoma only allows 17 points in these first three games of the season um SEC watch out and I think that should be I I think if you're an Oklahoma fan if they didn't give up more than about 30 points you'd feel really good about the defense this probably be one of the best defenses in the country uh but that's what's expected so expecting that I would expect Oklahoma doesn't allow Temple to score on them I know people have given them the the the gentleman field goal or touchdown um I feel like this defense wants to go out there and prove something right so um looking at the defensive line I I again you shouldn't learn anything about your defense here you really shouldn't uh but the defensive line I mean I think you're looking to see you know just how good is maybe the second and third string guys at you know getting home to the quarterback creating that pressure um against an offensive line that really just should not be good and then as far as the linebacker goes uh I I was talking about this with Jay and Coupe yesterday on their show but I was like how much run are we gonna see with Danny stutzman Woody Washington Billy Bowman those guys right you know they're turning Ethan Downs um I would bet we're not seeing a ton of Danny stman in this game you'll probably see some samel Migo I'm excited to see LS Carter in the linebacker room I have a feeling we're going to see Lewis Carter uh some OU fans I've even seen be excited about Kobe McKenzie because Kobe McKenzie is that dude so Oklahoma looking at the linebacker room I'm excited to see Lis Carter tomorrow I want to see what he looks like uh in game shape and see if he's able to go out there and make some hits but of course I think a lot of the focus is going to be in the secondary because you have two true freshman in the secondary that are just absolute monsters shout out to Reggie power Senor who he watches the show we text back and forth I'm gonna be excited to meet him for the first time because I did not get to go to the spring game uh but Reggie powers and Michael boganowski I expect we see a ton of them on Friday especially with Reggie Powers uh we talked about him I think it was in the spring when he was really making some noise about you know just maybe even potentially trying to be in the rotation for safety guys he is going to play a lot this season uh looking at the corners though I would I wouldn't expect uh to see I don't know if jentry is on the dep chart or not I wouldn't expect to see Gentry if he plays at all or very little one Gentry off the field don't want him hurt I want him healthy for SEC play looking at Dez Malone because Des Malone I felt like when Oklahoma went out into the transfer portal and pulled Des Malone in he really answered I think your Zone coverage issue I think he helps fix that and my gosh Arkansas is 63 nothing Arkansas might have found their quarterback but it's also Arkansas Pine Bluff so I can't read into that too much Dez Malone I feel like helps you in zone coverage a little bit which was Oklahoma's biggest pain point last year when they played man they played a lot better so looking at the safety room again don't like you should see a ton of Billy Bowman uh but I feel like you're going to see a ton of Robert Spears Jennings and a lot of pyton B back there so seeing what those two look like because they're going to be your future in the safety room next season potential starters uh you're an Oklahoma fan you're excited to see what that looks like so on the defensive side of the ball it's I mean it's pretty clear right you know what you expect from the defense uh this is going to be bv's best defense at Oklahoma in the in these first years uh it's proven even in his time at Clemson that in three years that's all it takes to turn it around uh I think some people are calling top 10 defense this year uh I'm going to be a little bit more optimistic and say if you're anywhere between 15 to 20 uh that's good enough to not only just compete for a culture playoff spot but maybe even get past that first round so if you're an Oklahoma fan uh Temple game uh I've got this score at 55 to nothing I'm not going to go 70 like they did last year um I I feel like he's going to call off the dogs at some point but uh right now the line for this game is 42 and a half for Oklahoma uh they're going to cover not sure if they hit the over under uh the over under was 59 and a half especially since I'm calling 55 points but I mean after watching Arkansas State last year I mean anything is possible with this Oklahoma team they could go out there uh beat the rails off Temple and they could score 70 plus point so if you're an Oklahoma fan you might be looking forward to that all right let's go here um do fi goals count no uh two lane up 35 to nothing on Southeast Louisiana um 20 points by the time okay that's not a bad one that's not a bad one uh Jimmy saterfield says Oklahoma 58 to nothing yeah yeah if you're an Oklahoma fan I think you just want to see a donut at the end uh what what whatever Oklahoma scores in points um I think a lot of that could be objective right you know if they go out there and they just try to run for three or 400 yards this game uh they're not going to score 60 70 maybe even 50 points right you know this might be a little bit lower into the 40s range so there wouldn't I wouldn't necessarily think that'd be room to panic you just oh you ran the ball a lot tried to run the clock out keep everybody as healthy as possible um am Mars James say 55 to nothing here 55 to nothing just feels like a safe bet for Oklahoma uh you would like them to cover there no need to go over I guess on the 59 and a half even though you'd like to see Oklahoma do that as well all right so looking at the games this week um like I said this week's live stream it's gonna be a little bit shorter than normal uh and it's you know just weird because game's on a Friday normal schedule gonna be on a Wednesday uh we'll usually have other people on we'll go through and talk about it uh also we'll probably have more to talk about in the games because well you're not going to be playing Temple who's going to be one of the worst teams in college football this year uh the first game that I have on my docket that uh listen I'm smoking a pork butt on Saturday uh be having some pulled pork and some P um not not burritos um potatoes that's what they're called um P pork potatoes on Saturday yeah this is one of the games I'm gonna be watching West Virginia Penn State uh Penn State's favored by eight points in this game here's one of the reasons why I'm really really oh shoot Stephen I am not paying attention to the NC State game What's the score there is it time to hit the pic button if you guys are in Jay's Discord y'all know what I'm talking about because uh I was doing this with the panic button for NC State um not probably not a fun time okay NC State's up 24-21 Western Carolina's got the ball and they are driving so okay all right Penn State and West Virginia so this game is intriguing to me and here's why I think as a college football fan you're excited to watch this game one it's 11 so it's a decent game at noon uh but both of these teams in their respective conferences I think should be expected to do big things if you're Penn State uh you have a very easy schedule this year um looking at their schedule they've got at USC uh but I think you're a better team than USC especially defensively I feel like they're going to have a hard time moving the ball on you um and you know uh Penn State I feel like can be the Kansas state to USC and Lincoln Riley right they can run the ball they can control time of possession and you know we've seen Lincoln Riley's teams not be successful in that scenario so uh I don't think that's going to be too hard of a game uh their hardest game of the season is Ohio State but it's at home so uh Penn State this year should lose no more than two games and they should be in the college football playoffs the question that everybody has is Drew Aller is he going to be a little bit more accurate than he was last year and his numbers last year were a little bit stat padded from some just garbage time points so you just wonder a little bit about him if he's going to take that next step especially since a lot of people think he could be an NFL draft prospect I look at the Penn State game and say you've got Singleton as an offensive weapon youve also got Julian Fleming from Ohio State so he is supposedly your answer at wide receiver but for West Virginia you no longer have Oklahoma and Texas in the Big 12 they are no longer a thorn in your side you have an opport Unity to go in to the Big 12 this year with four new teams start over fresh and try to compete for a big 12 championship and if you compete and win a big 12 championship in your West Virginia you go into the college football playoffs and you will have yourselves a season the donors will be happy and West Virginia on the recruiting Trail like they might start booming a little bit West Virginia is probably not GNA win this game against Penn State but you want to go out there and at least look good so I think if you're Garrett green and you're running this offense uh in your West Virginia you want to see a little bit better uh gar green is not a a killer dual threat quarterback you want to see Garett Garrett green be able to use his feet a little bit more out of the pocket there you want to see him be able to deliver uh some of those balls over the middle uh not just to the sides you want to see his decision making a little bit more so I'm looking at this Penn State West Virginia team for both for for both teams for multiple reasons one West Virginia you have an opportunity to set the tone in the Big 12 get a big time win and make everybody fear you a little bit if you're Penn State you need this win because you need a solid start to your season with as easy as a schedule this is to be able to go out there and maybe win 10 or 11 games and make the college football playoffs and so you look at that game uh Penn State favored by eight I would definitely take Penn State in that game let me know what you guys think below uh the next one that I've got here is Clemson verse Georgia oh General booty up 14 14 to7 let's go former Oklahoma quarterback doing his thing uh Clemson vers Georgia Georgia's favored by 11 and a half in this game so this one's intriguing to me and here's why one um I don't know why we just don't play this one in Athens like to be able to say like it's in Atlanta and it's not a home game for Georgia is a bunch of BS uh I looks like the matchup predictor uh Georgia's favorite 82% to Clemson 7 177% I have Clemson winning the ACC this year I think Clemson will be a playoff team I think they probably win a playoff game I think they're going to be massively improved from last season and the reason being is Kade Club Nick is going to have weapons to throw to at the wide receiver position they got festar wide receiver Bryant Wesco out there they've got TJ like you look at Clemson's wide receiver room they are probably as healthy as they've been in a couple years coming in to this season like offensively there really should not be a whole lot of questions out there their offensive line should be good the defensive side of the ball uh you're looking at the defensive line for them uh they they moov Peter Woods to defensive end uh and I heard somebody the other day talking about it like is it because he's not good enough to play the interior do they have a lot of depth at the interior and they could use him at defensive end or is he just more naturally a defensive end right this Clemson defense has still been very good in the post BV era and I think they can go out there and cause Georgia problem s uh I think Georgia wins this game but I think Georgia only wins it by three so Georgia does not cover in this game in my opinion uh you guys have to let me know what you guys think down there it would not be nice to see Georgia lose to Clemson I just I just don't think it's gonna happen but they're definitely not covering uh Sooner Legends podcast I got Georgia in that game but my gut is telling me otherwise yeah I mean you go what you gut Georgia is just a very good team and it's hard I think Georgia's becoming like the Bama effect it's hard to bet against Georgia until UC Georgia beat themselves so uh I would would definitely smash uh Clemson to cover this game though all right Oklahoma State versus South Dakota state if you're an Oklahoma fan it's time to have some fun here jump in the chat does Oklahoma State lose to South Dakota State we're seeing a Colorado struggle it's North Dakota State over here and Jay and I were texting back and forth about this earlier when he was telling me not to panic yet about Colorado uh because North Dakota State's good South Dakota State's good too and South Dakota State I think has an opportunity to upset Oklahoma State we saw Oklahoma State last year lose to South Alabama so we know it's possible for them to lose to an inferior opponent this is one o'clock game uh I believe it's maybe supposed to be raining during this game or maybe the rain will just now be clearing up by this time the over under is at 53 and a half I don't think anybody's scoring 53 points in this game by I don't think both teams are scoring 53 points in this game here's what I got though Oklahoma State's offensive line it's going to be one of the best in the country this year not saying it's Joe MOA winning offensive line but they're experienced and they have what it takes to be one of the best in the country I think Oklahoma State wins the game it's not going to be comfortable for a lot of Oklahoma State fans I think we look up at halftime and South Dakota State might have a Lead South Dakota State might be behind by three or four point like 3.7 touchdowns it's going to be an uncomfortable game for you're an U fan I think they pull it out though I think they win by 10 or 14 points I think they win by two scores the problem is if you're an Oklahoma State fan uh this has kind of been the story of your life over the past couple Seasons you've not done well in the regular season against some of these opponents you need to start doing well here uh if you're Oklahoma State go out here make a statement and tell everybody hey I'm here here we're here we've arrived right you don't have Oklahoma and Texas in your conference you have an opportunity to go out there win the conference Championship get into the playoffs I think some people have picked Oklahoma State to get to the playoffs by the way so I'd take Oklahoma State to cover uh but not by much so probably it's probably a 10-point to 14-point win uh for Oklahoma State there all right next game that is on the docket Texas A&M vers Notre Dame now if you're if you're an Oklahoma fan you just don't like Texas A&M so you're like listen I will pick anybody to be Texas A&M outside of old TBO any time of the day uh because A&M has a tendency to uh steal our recruits when we want to go after them yep we all have the David Hicks syndrome but that's also my point here Notre Dame's offensive line ain't good and we gonna find out a lot about Texas A&M here they do not have Ruben Owens remember Ruben Owens is out for the season uh Connor Wagman is back I think if you're a Texas aan Fan you really want to see what he has especially since he has been touted as an NFL draftable prospect but this defensive line for Texas A&M should be able to eat all day long and here's the other thing Riley Leonard Mike Elco Mike Elko is a defensive head coach he should know the Tendencies of Riley Leonard he should know when he's going to want to run out of the pocket where he normally likes to go all of that he should have the defensive line coached up and ready to go if you're Texas A&M the line is three you should win this game by 14 points at minimum if this defensive line comes out here and looks like trash and hot garbage not only will I be dragging Texas A&M through the mud the national media will as well and let me tell you it's not going to be pretty at the end of the season with more portal entrance exits from Texas A&M so if you're Texas A&M you got to have a big day on Saturday against Notre Dame this this offensive line ain't good so uh I I would say you take Tech Stadium to cover but they need to score 14 points all right lastly last game I have on the docket oh this one's gonna be fine in the comments LSU versus USC supposed to be a neutral sight game in Vegas I think some USC fans are hoping or USC content creators are hoping that USC fans show up and show out for this game LSU is favored by for a half let me tell you for an Oklahoma fan you're going to get your popcorn out for this one and you going to watch it and go this is going to be a classic Big 12 game because both defenses are hot garbage and uh yeah it's going to be whoever's got the ball last is GNA win the game so uh LSU favor by four and a half here uh yeah they probably win by a touchdown it's going to be fun to watch TBO lose to LSU because this was the team that he was maybe rumored to go to before he left Oklahoma in the middle of the night if you all Oklahoma fans remember that and we will be jumping all over Twitter having ourselves a field day if that happens all right well that's going to be it for
