for today from Acure stadium in Pittsburgh it's week one of the NFL on EA Sports [Applause] it's the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the San Francisco [Music] 49ers but not far from where the Steelers former Homes at Three River Stadium Forbes field once stood we are at Pittsburgh's Acure Stadium today it's the opener of the 2023 NFL season as it'll be the San Francisco 49ers taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers alongside Charles Davis I'm Brandon Gard well CD new season is here lions and Chiefs got it going on Thursday night you and I were there what a scene that was but now here we are a few days later on Sunday looking at two teams with Great Expectations here to begin 2023 it's always fun to get a new season started isn't it partner because everyone feels like they've got a shot at the defending champs they think that they can be the new champs and here we are getting things going let's have some fun a new season of NFL football is here and we're off in 2023 on EA Sports out of the end zone comes Johnson and ultimately he stopped right where he would have been if he had simply gone down to a knee at the 25 so the Steelers offense getting set for their first drive and they will be led out by their signal caller in his second year in the NFL now I tell you what when he's on schedule for that week secondaries take notice because you've got to stay alert back there on every snap a truly powerful arm one is capable of challenging any level of the defense on any given play that's why so many Scouts preach arm Talent when preparing for the NFL draft a quarterback with arm strength to make every throw in the book he's an asset to have in any offense they go play action with rothberger got a man that's Ward and he'll be taken down but not before they work it across Midfield that one nearly 30 yd 29 officially that's his first game and an impressive one against multiple Defenders and how about that start really aggressive yeah there was double coverage out there but that didn't stop them at all they went right at it and defeated it on that play So from inside ner territory now this is first and 10 at the 46 now rothsburgher on the slant he gets it to Clark and he gets it inside the 35 and just shy of the 30 this gain not quite as good as the last but still over 40 yd between the two oh that's a nice job of clearing space in the middle of the field for your tight end he's going to start behind the line and run an angle route hoping to kind of get lost in the middle of the field and this is put right on him and he's able to pick up the first down and taking it to the 15 yd line before he's brought down good gain again that's now 31 yd combined on those last two plays this is shap enough to be a really nice looking drive to get the season under way here and how long do you think that they actually have been plotting this drive I'm talking about the coaching staff right they've been thinking about this for a while now and I think they're executing it even better than what they expected a first Red Zone opportunity of the New Year here as they come up now first and 10 to throw here [Music] rothberger under pressure and he'll go down back at the 26 yd line it'll be a loss of 10 and it'll bring up second a defensively on the previous play they gave up a pretty good chunk of yardage but right there they got a good portion of it right back and if we just flip it around from the offensive perspective took a nice step forward and how about a couple of leaps backwards after that play they've got to figure out a big call coming up here to try and gain that yardage back so now 20 yds to go on second down after the sack work to be done now a first Carry for their fullback they get him to the ground right on the cusp of the Red Zone after a pick up of five or six and that's why that position was created big powerful strong guy who can carry the ball and plow forward that's exactly why you have him on the [Applause] field a tough spot here third and 15 now rothberger to throw that's Ward complete right side be a gain of five and that's going to make it fourth down well we hear so often how tackling has become almost a lost start in the NFL game but it's tackle well on these receivers especially in a play like this one third down they gave the underneath stuff you got to go and make the tackle right away
