the greatest tight end in NFL history had high praise for Detroit Alliance tight end Sam leapa who is now going into his second year in the NFL and what he did as rookie year was historically great when you look at what he did production-wise he was fourth alltime in receiving yards for a rookie tight end first was Mike dka 176 second Kyle pittz 1,26 Jeremy shaki uh was third with 8994 and then Sam leaport with 889 had the most catches though ever for any rookie tight end with 86 receptions and it's it's really incredible given you know Sam Lea's draft position as well a second round pick and Travis Kelce had high praise for him you know at tight end University which is held out in Nashville they have a bunch of tight ends and Sam Lort has already been there before but he was here this year and they asked and by they I mean Taylor Lewan asked Travis Kelce who's who's been sticking out who's been the best tight end and here's what Travis Kelce had to say about Sam leap Porto best tight end here um lto had a Year dude laaa had a year last year I'm glad we're getting a direct answer because a lot of guys on seeing where he goes the second year his first year he killed I love that it's important Travis Kelce I think he's the greatest tight end in NFL history and you look at what the question was who is the best tight end here key word and he said well Sam leapor had a great rookie year and I'm interested to see where he goes from there and I think Sam leaport ceiling as a tight end I mean I think he could be a thousand yard tight end he was 110 away last year and he was banged up down the stretch but you look at how his rookie are started he he he was coming along Ben Johnson's offense very complex especially for a tight end given how much responsibility he has in the Run game and of course in the passing game like it's a little different especially with how much the Lions want to R the ball and and what they're doing schematically Ben Johnson's offense is a lot for anybody to try and digest especially I would argue for tight ends I think it's probably the hard one of the hardest on offense besides obviously Jared G uh but what Sam lorta did was extremely impressive and many would say he's one of the best tight ends already in the NFL I would agree with that I think if you're asking me where he should be ranked at this point in time I would put Travis Kelce number one George KD as a as number two but George KD and Sam leaport to me are very close and there's other tight ends and one tight end on this list that had the second most yards as rookie or as a as a rookie tight end Kyle pittz just hasn't lived up to what many people expected I think Sam lorta in this offense with Jared gof is only going to produce you know he's not the number one option uh when you look at Travis Kelce with the Chiefs I mean they look at Travis Kelce as as the safety blanket um in the receiving core got better but it's still Travis Kelce with the Lions it's Aman rossan Brown so leapa is in a little different situation as a second option so I don't know if he'll ever be this you know Travis Kelce 1300 yards 12200 yards with Alan rossing Brown but I think he can get close if not thousand yard season I think Sam Le Porto will be second on the lions in receiving yards this year I think Aman R is going to go out and get his 14500 yards like he did last season All Pro type of of year for Alan raah and I think Sam leapor could go out there and get close to if not a thousand now Jameson Williams many people expect him to take a big leap I think J has his 700 6700 this year and I would take that for for a really doubling his production from last year but you can't deny Jared G as a quarterback that when he's comfortable with someone he's comfortable and Sam leaport and am ra he's very comfortable and he trusts those guys so it's not like J Mo's production's going to rise and Sam leapor is just going to take a step back Sam lorta is still going to be a big part of this offense so that's what I foresee happening you know I think Sam comes out and gets close to a thousand this year and and that's why wouldn't say he'll be the best tight end uh maybe you look at skill set and say he's one of the best uh in terms of stats he's one of the best but as long as he stays in that top two top three range you have a very good tight end and and really who takes the throne once Kelsey retires or or KD gets older and older it's going to be Sam leapa like I'm not trying to argue that he's the next one up you know and and I think as Travis Kelce ages and as George KD ages those guys as they start to decline Sam leor will be hitting the prime of his career the lions got an absolute stud in Sam lto absolute stud it just it it doesn't happen I mean tight ends even Travis Kelce and George KD took some time you know before they were truly themselves it's it's really an anomaly for someone like Kyle pittz to come out and get a thousand or Sam leor to come out and get 900 yards the rookie year I mean it it really raises the bar significantly for what they can be in their career but what do you guys think of what Travis Kelsey said about Sam leaport how high are you on him and do you think he can go out this year and get a thousand yards I say he'll get close too wouldn't be surprise if he does 2,000 yard receivers for the Lions am and Ross and brown and Sam lorta and really the thing I always bring up is depending on high how high you are on Sam lorta what Al also have to factor in How High are you on jamus and Williams many people think J Mo can come out and get a thousand well now all three of them are not going to get a thousand so where are you guys at with it I'll vote Sam lorta even though I think J Mo doubles his production gets 700 yards comment down below I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts on that and really where will Sam leapa end up ranking this year think he'll be the best tight end in football I would love to hear it check out our live show 8 to 10 pm weekdays and we post so much more throughout the day and weekends until next time I'll catch you guys
